Oops....thanks, KW, for correcting my URL's. That's what I get for going by memory rather than double checking. It is a great program, though. As for install, I enjoyed figuring it out. Invision was the first PHP program I tryed installing and it went very smoothly. I also installed a photo gallery program that, while a nice program, was far from user friendly in the install instructions.

Near the end of your code the part I have bolded seems to be causing a problem in jumping to the Home page. You either need to change it to "http://www.etc..." or just have "/home". I jumped into the home directory and looked there at a little. If the page is mainly going to be a blog I would highly recommend looking into installing and using Movable Type. You can read more about it at www.movabletype.com. I have several blogs set up on my site using it and it is very easy to use once you get it up and running. The install can be intimidating but you can get help on here if you need it. Good luck. Look forward to seeing the site once you get it up and running.

Yeah, I don't think it has anything to do with the Admin panel. I played around with my board today and was able to replicate the problem on there when I set my permissions on the "upload" directory to 755. That directory has to have write permissions for all so has to be set at 777.

You can download InVision from www.invision.com and install it. The directions are great and it is pretty simple to set up. You just have to be sure to follow the directions about setting the permissions correctly and if you don't it warns you and waits for you to fix it. I had problems on a different host getting the skins (same as themes) to work correctly but had no problems on here. They even have import filters to move a phpbb to Invision.

On a serious note, I think we all can agree that it remarkable that between the two of them, Bill and Lianna have nearly 850 posts on here. Even taking out the "shameless bumping" and other misc. short posts that's a lot of help, advice, and good-will generating communication. In a day of voice-mail, form letters, and spam it's nice to see a one-on-one approach to customer service. The 97% rating on ratemyhost.com (or whatever it is called) was what caught my attention and helped me decide to move my site here. In the just over a week I've been here I'm more impressed. It's not always perfect and mistakes happen but I can get over them knowing that for every mistake there are many more successes. Thanks, Bill, Lianna, and other admins and mods for all your work! Now, back to our regularly scheduled programing.

I like http://www.numion.com/YourSpeed/ to check my connection speeds. It creates a table with the last several test so I can compare how things are running.

Looks like I missed it. Sometime in the past hour since I last checked the board Lianna moved into the #1 spot in the Overall Top 10 Posters! Currently it is 420-418. Looks like it may take a while for anyoe else to come close.

Oops...I tried to upload the wrong file and it was too big but then I tried another .gif file that meets the criteria and it failed. The error message was the same as before-- Upload failed. Guess I'll have to keep using this Tampa Bay avatar a little longer.

I tried again today to upload an avatar and get a different error message this time.

Looks like I overestimated Lianna's posting prowess, or underestimated Head Guru. Of course, there was that "shameless bumping" post and the copy and paste duplicate maintanance annoucment in two fora. There is still time....

I love InVision Board. It's was easy to set up and is easy to maintain. I had wondered how it compared in regard to CPU usage. It certainly is fast. Now if only the upload avatars function would work on here, I'd be able to change my avatar from the current one as a sign of gratitude.

I found the following site when I ran a google search on "themes phpbb": PhpThemes I use InVision Board and have several skins for it. There are more available for PhpBB, though. Good luck in your search.

Lianna has 28 posts today as I post this. THat brings her to 398 to Bill's 402 so it looks like she may take the lead. I predict 11:03 a.m. for the change. Guess I'll have to keep checking between classes.

Ouch! That could fill a mailbox in a hurry. I only had 5 or 6 so I just redirected them all. I also added an entry in my HOSTS file to redirect my mail.xxxxx.com to the old server to collect email. It worked fine for me but I've heard others had problems with that method. I actually used that method to choose which server I went to while updating my Movable Type blogs and getting them exported from the old and imported to the new server. Seems there is always something you forget when trying to make a switch. I don't plan to switch again for a while.

One thing I did while transferring to a new host was to set up my old email server to forward all email to my permanent email address (provided through my ISP.) That way I didn't lose any email in the transition.

That wasn't pretty! It may be a long afternoon if Johnson throws many like that. Oh, well. Philly thought they had things under control early, as well.

It doesn't look like you got your files uploaded into the correct directory. Did you upload everything from your old site into the public_html or www directories? If you go into the Cpanel and choose the file manager you can see if the index.html file is there. Everything has to be in the public_html directory to be seen on the internet. I'm sure one of the gurus can help you more if you have problems figuring it out.

I clicked on your weblink and got an index. I pinged the site and see that I am seeing the new IP so welcome. Hope the move goes smoothly.

I had pretty good luck by adding an entry in my HOSTS file to direct the site to my TCH address while I was waiting for the address to propagate. That also allowed me to run the cgi scripts I needed to run to get Movable Type set up. Just use the IP address you got in your welcome email. I'm running Windows XP.

I've used CuteFTP and SmartFTP as well. Right now I mainly use Filezilla (http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla) and love it. It's also free. It is much easier to use one of the dedicated FTP programs rather than the one in the CPanel. For that matter, just using the ftp in Internet Explorer would work. One thing I found was that my ISP is very slow at updating their DNS servers so everyone else was seeing my site before I could. I ended up adding an entry to my Wondows HOSTS file to get into my site using my domain name. The hardest part for me was being patient waiting for the welcome email from TotalChoice after I signed up.

I've gone through the process of transferring a site twice in the last few weeks. It went pretty smoothly for me. I switched to one host and then found this one so I switched again. I am real happy with TotalChoice so I don't plan to switch again for a long time. After you sign up here you will get a detailed email with directions for what you should do. Basically you will need to contact whoever you have registered your domain with and get the DNS info changed to point to the servers here. It will take 24 to 48 hours in general for the new address to propagate throughout all the internet so the old site will still work until that happens. I used an FTP program to copy my site from the old server to my computer and then transferred that site from my computer to the servers here using FTP. It was pretty quick and painless. I have found the Control Panel to be pretty easy to use. There is a link on it to go to the documentation. Good luck with the switch. If you run into any snags I'm sure you can get help here or at the Help Desk. I've really enjoyed playing with the new features available here.
