Most software packages that come with scanners don't support OCR. You need to go out and purchase a program to do the OCR and conversion into an acceptable format. I use Omni-Pro.

Thanks Don, I was going to track down that thread but was busy setting up a new site for our Swimming Pool. The one point that isn't addressed in that thread is the scanner. Now I have had a few over the years and I would say that most of them are very similar and have no preference. I would however go for a flatbed, a multi-feed is probably not necessary since you have a bound book and not single sheets and will need to lay the book down to scan.

Actually this is the 1st day of the "Memorial Day" weekend with the holiday being on Monday. Its also the 1st day or Opening day for most of the swimming pools. So everyone is either away for the holiday or took off for the day at the pool.

Yes, and they replied at first that it did not work. but now it works, go figure

And what would this accomplish? A firewall blocks all ports and to have one open someone needs to manually code it to be open. So moving to another port will just find another dead end. As others have suggested you need to talk with the network admins but this is usually not going to help. They will open up ports if its for a work related project and there is a need for it. Access for personal information on company equipment is usually frowned upon.

if you are in a hurry I would suggest a help desk ticket. But 15 minutes...

looks like a fly-by ad to me...

Yes. The hosting company just wants to make it easy for the customer to get up and running with a web page so they offer free software for them to use. What happens is you find a lot of sites that look the same on that hosting companies sites.

Places like Valueweb give you web creation "software" with your hosting package and thats what you are seeing. Those are just comment lines that are thrown in using the name the user supplied. I think I saw 'Creatit" as a web page program on the Valueweb homepage. Some folks just want a quick and easy homepage.

Sorry, you can't change it.

well it gets confusing around my house on an hourly basis. I'm BoB most of the times and Bobby to my old friends. My oldest is Bobby and his best friend is Bob My next door neighbor is Bob (Rob) and his son, my youngest sons best friend is Bobby and my sons godmother is Bobbie the famous word around here is "what" echoed several times when our name is called:)

I agree 100%, its just I can't afford the games there like I used to . I grewup in the 60's going to Memorial park whenever someone would take me. Once I was driving I averaged at least 30 games a year. Then they built Camden Yards and I now make at most 3 games. It cost me an arm and a leg and with both boys in their teens its two legs. I had both boys at games before they reached 6 months! So to see any games and be able to eat I suggest minors .

From: http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,4149,1530946,00.asp "a skilled attacker" "An attacker with local access " and "sending an e-mail "... "remote user could invoke the attack" Looks like it will take 2 people working together, and they need to be "skilled" The "local access" says the attacker is directly connected to the network or sitting at the computer. No, I don't think easily compromised is a good description here . Thanks for the article.

Well I believe its not an overly correct statement... That in effect says the main purpose of the software doesn't work. Now I have read about a trojan or two that are running around which will delete files for ZA specifically and make the prorgam inefective. But this in no way makes the software easily comprimed for everyone who is running it. ZA is in the business to protect computers from being hacked. If it was "easily compromised" I would suspect they would be out of business quickly. Do you have a location for this article you read, I am curious since I do recommend people use ZA and if it is as bad as you say then I will need to re-evaluate what I say from now on .
-
Could you expound on this statement please. Lots of folks are using ZA and may panic.

Bill, going to the ballgame is not the same anymore, the result of the multi-million per year contracts. What I do is take the kids to a minor league game, we have several available in our area, The Bowie Baysox, The Frederick Keys and the Hagerstown Suns. Tickets are cheaper, food and drinks are reasonable, parking is free in some cases. Seats are plenty and you are right there with the players. The kids can go up to the railing and talk with them. An overall enjoyable time compared with the gouging you wallet takes at a Major league park. And the younger kids don't know the difference, its a ballgame to them

Actually it is not a firewall, its NAT'ing which acts like a firewall. NAT = Network Address Translation. This assigns an Internal IP address which effectively hides computers behind the router. A firewall has rules which allows or blocks IP's from coming in or going out. To answer the question...yes, run a software firewall on each PC. An extra layer of protect is a good idea in this case. For instance. Your "firewall" on the router will not block unwanted OUTGOING traffic. If you install a trojan program unknowingly from an email, it will attempt to contact the outside world. Most software firewalls will dectect and block this activivty, your router will not.

Thats because the "update" option in the program is just checking for "data" updates...are there any new spyware programs or files to look for. What has changed is the actual Spybot program, a newer version has been released and you need to manually download it and uninstall the old one and install the newer version. Yes its confusing but thats how this one is done.

got confused there for a second, but then realized there were two other "Roberts" in this thread. Should have known better since I go by BoB anyway
-
Maybe it does a check an found that you already had one and skipped over it.
-
Why not? I usually make a restore point when I make changes to the system. If something goes wrong I can quickly recover with this restore point.

Its version 1.3 and I found it this afternoon wen I was working on a friends. It has a different front end that walks you thru some of the preliminary steps. It first saves a backup of the registry, then asks if you want to check for updates and the asks if you want to immunize. It then puts you at the main screen.

doesn't actually work = does not support

sometimes the obvious answers are the hardest to find and you are right, it may not be an option for reason we can't see from way over here

Why not move the Cable Modem and/or access point to a spot that will be more in the "middle" of your network, so it will be able to wirelessly reach them all. There is no rule that says the access point has to sit beside the PC. The issue would be how much cable you have to move the cable modem. When I had my cable modem installed I had the guys add extra cable so I could move it elsewhere if needed. You could also purchase more cable and an extender or splitter.
