I think the Media Player is not part of the website, its an application installed on the visiting computer. And this is usually the choice of the visitor and they control how it plays. You just supply the media file and the visitor plays it with what ever application they perfer, they could have multiple choices. There maybe a Java or plugin you try but you should wait for someone else who may know more about them to reply.

You can not manually move files around, you need to move them in FP so the program can code the correct "path" to them. The path is like directions to the location, take a left off I95 go 2 blocks and a right on Elmer Rd. By placing all the files into another folder you changed the location and now everyone is going to the wrong place because the directions didn't get changed. Take the files out of the folder and put them back the way they were.

Hmmm, running out of options here. Doesn't sound good and it may be you need re-install from scratch...recovery CD back to factory settings But keep trying other suggestions, maybe someone can jar it loose.

Afraid so. I would start with restoring using the System Restore points in Win XP. Select a point closest to before the problem started and work your way backwards. If you can't find a point that fixes the problem restore back to today (save a point first). Next thing to try is to uninstall all the software using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Then into Printer/Scanners in Control Panel and remove them from there. Now reboot and try to reinstall and re-add them to the System...good luck.

If they both work when you plug them into another PC, then you have a problem on the other PC. If they don't work on the second PC then you can be fairly sure they are both broken. One possibility for both breaking at the same time would be a power surge or lightening strike.

This is probably the operating system. Windows has a "feature" called a "swap file" which is used to give the computer more virtual memory. The disk is used to store temporary data instead of RAM. The way this works is data is written to the disk (cached) for easy retrieval and is kept for a length of time. During idle periods the computer will clean out the older data from the swap file and move things around making the data that is used more often easier and quicker to access. So your computer may be unused at the moment but you will see the hard drive light flashing and the drive will be making noises as if its working on something...it is. Once this process is done the drive will become quite again, until it needs to swap around the data again.

The Hard drive is a very complicated mechanical device. Its made of metal and plastic and has lots of moving parts. All these moving parts are going to make noises, sometimes these noises are good and sometimes they are bad. Basically the drive "heads" and the arms that move these heads across the platters are what make the most noise. The heads need to move back and forth at high speeds to read different location trying to find the correct data to read from the drive. This movement is what causes most of the clicking. Here is a picture of the inside of a drive showing the heads, arms, and the platter. h_tp://internal.vusd.solanocoe.k12.ca.us/buck/pc_tech/study/hdd.htm#MODERN Now trying to tell from a description of sounds whether a drive is good or bad or going bad is impossible. So like the others suggested, take a backup and keep it updated just in case. Drives do go bad...or they can last a long time, but its better to be prepared

Delete the email account and keep the forward. The email sent to that account will be forwarded and it will not be kept on the server because there is no account.

Drive Icon Not Showing Up In Winexplorer
Madmanmcp replied to ramone_kalsaw's topic in Hardware Corner
Ummm, I'm not a Mac user but I don't believe a Mac can read a drive that is formatted in FAT or NTFS, or XP read a drive formatted by a Mac. If they are Networked and the drivers loaded they can, but I don't think you can move an external between the two OS's to share files. So maybe the last use it was formatted by the Mac and that prevents XP from recognizing it. I've also did a Google search and found a couple of issues with the Dell firewire and External WD drives. The fixes I read were to use USB, It maybe a Dell issue. I would keep calling Dell support and see if they can help. -
Thomas, could be lots of things and not sure you've given us enough information. What make and model is the Printer and scanner. Is it an All-in-one combination or separate units. I would assume its an all-in-one if they have both gone south at once. Next questions would be what have you installed recently or added or done recently to the computer. Sometimes installing new things will cause other things to go bad. Have you check the cables to make sure they are connected properly, sometimes they come loose without your noticing. And of course the obvious questions...have you shut down the computer and powered off the printer/scanner and restarted?

Congradulations Dave (when it finally arrives)! But I think you are at the Hospitals Admins mercy here, they locked everything down for a reason. I believe your best option would be to locate another Wi-Fi hotspot if possible. A Starbucks or a McDonalds thats is nearby would be my first choice. Maybe a Hotel near you that has it. Most big Hotels offer Free Internet and the hotsport is in the lounge. They have so many guests they will never recognizeyou sitting there for a short period. If you spend too much time they may, but 15-30 minutes you'll be in and out and no one will care. Good luck and hope the wait is not long. -
Here is an explanation for the delay http://www.smarthouse.com.au/Computing/Pla...tforms/R7G5G6U4 If thats the case its going to be longer than next year...60% is a hell of a lot of code an then it all needs to be retested...3 years minimum would be my guess OOPS! I put this in the wrong thread...sorry

I thought it was part of the decision from the Justice Departments suit against MS, they had to separate the components. The verdict came out after XP hit the street so Vista is where you would see the browser separated from the OS.
-
LOL And MS would fix the problem by selling you a metal one saying the plastic was the real problem!

Ftp Through Another Port Than 21

ftp on port 21 is usually blocked by most companies. You can try file manager in cpanel to upload files, cpanel uses port 2082 or 2083. -
XP was the last version so its and "upgrade" from there. Explanation from the Beast itself. h_tp://www.microsoft.com/Windowsvista/

There's different answers from different folks and it all depends on each persons needs. If you just upgraded to XP then I see no reason for you to think about Vista. XP will work well for you for several more years and will be supported by MS for that time I believe. Now being a tech and also one that's certified by MS, I will be getting Vista as soon as it goes to Public Beta. But thats because I know I will need to know it before everyone else. Friends, relatives, neighbors and yes Work relies on me knowing how the OS works. Its in my best interest to get it and play with it and know how it works...I'd hate to look stupid when the wife says her compter doesn't work and I have to send it to someone else to fix So for me I need to get it and learn it early. For the regular users...wait. It will come pre-loaded on your next computer purchase and by then there will be alot of us brave techies who will be able to help you get rid of the bugs and rough spots that I am sure everyone will have. Its always best to get it on a pre-loaded machine versus upgrading an old PC with an older OS. The pre-loaded has been fully tested by the Manufacturer and all the drivers tested and loaded for you and they usually work right out of the box. Upgrading always has these strange problems getting the older legacy devices working, or an already exisiting issue in the old registry re-surfacing to cause major headaches.

I understand and agree Rob, I also want to help other family members. But sometimes its hard to determine which hat you are wearing, TCH-Rob or nice-guy Rob and we don't want to see this guy trying to Body slam you (even though I know you can handle it) and then going after Bill for his hard earned cash. ht_p://news.com.com/Exposing+click+fraud/2100-1024_3-5273078.html

As far as I can tell this is not a TCH problem and I don't think Brent wanted TCH as a company to get involved. This was posted in Open Discussion and I believe he wanted input from other users, since he was unsure on what was going on. He's received mostly good answers so far and should choose one (or more) and see where that leads him.
