IMHO, you should always apply new patches and updates the second they come out. When a patch or security update is issued, that basically says to the entire world "There's a problem here and we're fixing it." The problem with that is... Then the entire hacking community can exploit it and know exactly what the problem is. So unpatched users are at an even greater risk.

... Wow. I must have missed when we becamse a tech support place for non-TCH customers... Anyway... I don't have a great deal of experience with that, but here's the kind of thought process I'm having: 1) Build a PHP/Perl/ASP/"anything" script. 2) Place it in an HTACCESS/HTPASSWD protected directory 3) Configure the script to either shut down the server itself, or call an executable on the local machine that starts/stops the server.

Initial inclination: Once it's gone, it's gone. Unless you backed up the DB using the mysql dump command, or are drawing from some other backup, you're S.O.L.

I'm not sure the range of "devices" this affects, but let me tell you in terms of search engines. With a temporary redirection, a search engine upon seeing it, will go to the new location only that one time. The next time it comes around, it will try the old one again. With a permanent redirection, it will always access the new location once it reads the redirection statement.

The points brought up in here are valid. If you're going to do monitoring, how about doing it in two stages: 1) Full monitoring -- Alerts the user for any and all problems. 2) Partial monitoring -- Alerts the user for any problems that have not been caused by TCH.. Such as PHP errors, bandwidth overusage, etc. I would go partial myself, since all I'd really need to know is if there's a problem I need to fix personally.

If I had satellite radio, I'd go for t he NFL carrier.

Wow Bill, I think that is an absolutely awesome addition idea. That would practically seal the fate of every other hosting company. Allowing customers the peace of mind that their own personal website is being checked every so often to make sure all is running well is incredible support. On top of what TCH already is, that would make TCH the best value by an even wider margin. I'm in if it becomes reality.

So, are you going to use Raul's or fix up your own copy of it?
