  9. Some people are extra paranoid when it comes to this. Unless someone is knowledgeable about undeleting and recovering information you have nothing to be concerned with. You say you are giving the machine to someone you know. Simply FDISK the drive and reformat it. Then install the OS fresh and apply the updates. I'm sure they are not concerned with any information you may have had on the machine. I have sold several machines to friends with doing nothing more. If I were donating it to charity or a school I would wipe the disk with one of these utilities.
  10. Mine doesn't either unless I "check for updates"
  11. Thanks Thomas, I'll wait until the app tells me it's available for download. Easier that way.

  15. Just take your time. My solution to installing updates for WordPress: >1. Download the archive from WordPress and extract on my computer (remove wp-content.php) 2. Rezip the archive while in the WordPress folder eliminating the WordPress folder 3. In File Manager I delete the following in your current WordPress installation: wp-admin folder wp-include folder default and classic folders from wp-content/themes folder Akismet folder from wp-content/plugins folder all the .php files in the root folder except wp-config.php (IMPORTANT) 4. Upload your repackaged zip file to your blogs root folder 5. Extract the contents of the zip file using File Manager 6. Run the upgrade.php file located at http://yourdomain.ext/wp-admin/upgrade.php And you're done. Please backup first!
  16. We hit 78F/25C here yesterday. Supposed to be warmer today. But we are headed for summer on this side of the equator.
  17. Why not just download it and put burn it to a CD/DVD for updating purposes? That's how I have done it with the last two.
  18. There are a couple of reasons for the warning. One you are using a secure connection and the certificate for the server is not your domain name I would assume (or do you have your own SSL certificate?). Second the certificate is a generic certificate. If you wish not to see the error (it's really a warning) is to not use a secure connection or get your own SSL certificate.
