It's been way too long since the last time I took the time to say how good TCH is. I recommend TCH regularly in various support forums I frequent and have never had anyone contact me afterward with any suggestion of a complaint. Good pricing, wonderful support and servers which are configured properly for the most popular software. I'll be a happy customer forever.

This is for Outlook Express, but I think Outlook is the same. Tools - Accounts - Properties - Advanced Tab At the bottom is 'Leave a copy of messages on server'.

I don't know about the second part, but I've never had Wordpress auto-updates work, either. I get the same error you get (can't remember the directory it references) every time I try. It isn't that difficult to upgrade manually, though - just dragging and dropping folders.

Depends, I think, on the people. I know people who can work magic with a very complicated program like Excel, who won't even try far simpler software becuase 'it's too confusing'. Probably the only thing you can do is install it and show them the admin section. It seems pretty easy to me.

If I understand, you already have your domain hosted here at TCH. Installing your own copy of Wordpress doesn't involve a WP 'accout'. Wordpress is really just open source software, like Joomla or Zencart. As Bruce mentioned, WP is easy to install. It mainly involves uploading the folders and files to your hosting account using FTP, and making a few changes in a configuration file. I've done it in 5 minutes. I've never used Blogger, so I don't know how (or if) you can merge your existing blog entries with the new software, but I'd be surprised if there isn't a way to do it.

There is a Payflow Link module for Zencart, but it's old and never worked very well, anyway. I switched to another payment processor after a couple of months with Link, and would suggest you do the same if you can.

Go to your CPanel account, and click on Software / Services/ Fantastico De Luxe. FWIW, I don't recommend using Fantastico. Installing the programs manually yourself gives you more control and provides you with information about configuration you won't get by having someone else do it for you.

Some time ago, I used Phorm (http://www.php-form.net/) and had good luck with it.

This, which I found somewhere on zdnet.co.uk sums up my feeling about Flash perfectly: Flash There's nothing wrong with Flash, provided you don't use it to construct web sites where people want to find information, navigate easily or do anything beyond passively consume exactly what you choose to give them in exactly the way you've decided. There's also nothing wrong with using it for a splendid splash screen replete with movies, sound and animation — if you don't mind frustrating, annoying and possibly even driving away people who might, just might, have something better to do. In fact, Flash-based web sites are quite possibly one of the most useful pieces of network technology around. Like heroin or microlights, they ensure that those who think it's a good idea aren't around to annoy us for too long.

If it works and you don't need it, check out freecycle.org - someone in your area will want it.

I like the new look. It's a lot cleaner, and all the controls seem to be where I expect them to be. My only suggestion would be the same suggestion I wanted to make about the old version - eliminate the 'Happy Birthday' posts. They're just clutter.

You can do that through the TCH domains registrar (under Services on the TCH home page), but in my (limited) experience, it's hit-and-miss as to whether they actually grab the domain or not. It may depend on how long the redemption period is for the guy who owns it now.

I can't speak for TCH, but I'm with you on this one. The idea that any online business using a merchant account wouldn't verify CC information in real time is ridiculous. The chargeback resulted mainly from a failure of their process, not your error. I'd demand the $50 back, and switch to a different registrar as soon as I could.

My experience with the IE8 Beta is that it's considerably more standards-compliant (that is, more Firefox-like) than IE7 or (shudder) IE6.

That happens a lot with themes and templates for blog or CMS software. Usually you can delete it from the CPanel File Manager.

Have you gone to Start - Run - msconfig and clicked the Startup tab to see if there's anything running on start up that's reloading the virus? I've had that happen. You'll have to look at each entry to figure out what it is, but most are obvious and you can Google the name of the exe file on the rest.

I downloaded it and installed it on my low-end Dell laptop. So far it seems fine, and I think it boots and 'feels' faster than the XP that came with the machine. I haven't used Vista, so I don't know if that's pretty much all it is.

It's possible, then, that I just don't understand the situation. I've been a enthusiastically satisfied customer of TCH for several years, and currently have 2 reseller accounts. I have gone out of my way to recommend TCH to anyone looking for hosting. My comment about 'looking elsewhere' that got you guys all fired up was based on this logic - please let me know if I'm missing something. Merchant account providers and payment processors are increasingly requiring their customers and their websites to be PCI compliant. TCH doesn't offer PCI compliance on their shared server packages. Therefore, if you're looking for a low-cost shared-server hosting account for ecommerce, TCH isn't your place. Not a criticism at all. I'm not suggesting that TCH should offer shared PCI compliance, and I never once suggested that TCH should 'disable any features'. I agree with (and appreciate) the strict security measures TCH enforces on it's servers. Again, my point is that if you want to accept credit cards on your site, you won't be able to with a TCH shared account, once the PCI compliance requirement is universal, and I would suggest that this fact should be explained in the pre-sales pages. Thanks to Dick for the explanation of the issues involved. I'll discuss those with the other hosting guy, but as of now it looks like I'll be switching to a TCH dedicated server. Thanks. I did exactly that, and received this reply: "Unfortunately PCI compliance cannot be met on a shared server environment and can be configured only on a dedicated server." Those considering TCH for ecommerce might want to look elsewhere.

This morning, in the Zencart support forum, a TCH customer posted a question about PCI compliance on his shared server account here, and received (according to him) this reply (in part): "The remaining noted items on the PCI certification scan are inherent to shared hosting environments, these can not be corrected on the server that the site currently resides without causing adverse effects for others hosted on the same server. We apologize for the inconvenience this is causing, should you require full PCI compliance you will need to consider a semi-dedicated or full dedicated server." Another frequent poster on that forum, who makes his living operating a hosting provider, replied that shared hosting can, in fact, be PCI compliant. Unless there's more to this particular story, is the other guy wrong, or is there something about TCH's servers which preclude compliance?
