I was not able to pick up these last couple posts until this morning. OE6 does not offer me the same type of tools that I wantd to use in Outlook. It is an upgrade from 5, but not by much. I use Outlook at work and wanted to be able to use some of the functions I use there at home for mail handling. But since I can't get the email to function for my website, it is a lost cause. I am using the same identity. I have not set up different identities in either Outlook or Outlook Express. Yes. I do use the same name. Thanks for trying! I do use the mail parsing rules (which are very limited) in OE verses Outlook. One of the nicest rules: Delete message if my email address is not specifically in the TO: CC: or BCC: ! At work that really helps on wildfire spam that doesn't have my own address in it. After many YEARS of spam-free emails, my personal email has been compromised. I think my friends/family have been placing the email address into those silly sites that have cards, etc, and one of them has sold a list to a third party and now I have Tons of spam on that address. I used to have Outlook 97 on this machine then put on Outlook 2002. Possibly something is residual from 97 is interferring with the 2002 functions??? Thanks folks. -Samantha

Hadn't thought of that. I did try making new accounts, and tried different settings (as noted above) on each one. Unfortunately, none worked. Ok.... I will give up for now. Thanks folks for all your suggestions. It's possible that my computer configuration has a quirk (WinME is a major quirk on it's own, let alone the programs that I have installed...) and just won't let me connect that way. I will continue with my old OE5 since it works well and live with it's limitations for a while longer. -Samantha

In both OE and O, I have these set the same: someone@samisite.com Works in OE5 just fine. No special settings, exactly as shown on your helpsite. But doesn't work in Outlook. Wacky! I have never had this type of problem......but always a first time for everything! I also checked my zone alarm firewall settings to make sure there was nothing in there to interfere. Guess until I upgrade to different PC, should leave it with Outlook Express... BUMMER. -Samantha

OK.................... Nearly ready to throw in the towel... it just doesn't make sense! Thinking that my program is not fully updated, I checked my OFFICE XP 2002 and applied the latest patch (that did partially apply to Outlook). Have also checked with my isp (started with mindspring and years ago was folded into earthlink so our pop and smtp settings have changed a few times). They say the latest setting for my account should be smtp.earthlink.net or smtpauth.earthlink.net depending on what you read/see on their site! Then I tried Outlook again. Still NO GO. Still my isp email goes through, but not my domain email. I have 3 accounts I am trying to check. one: I have the Outgoing SMTP set to mail.samisite.com, port 25 works in OE, not O two: I have the Outgoing SMTP set to mail.samisite.com, port 26 three: I have the Outgoing SMTP set to smtp.earthlink.net, port 26 Also tried: Outgoing SMTP set to smtp.earthlink.net, port 25, checked off outgoing authentication and put in my mindspring username, password This is the best of the choices, getting one more checkmark than the rest as shown in image attached, but still not able to send/receive from the samisite.com domain. Is this a lost cause??????????????????? -Samantha

Sorry for the delay. Was away from my machine. In Outlook Express (which WILL send/receive from my samisite.com addresses) the SMTP address is mail.samisite.com I have my OUTLOOK set the same way. I tried your smtp.isp.com and it does not work. -Samantha

I have a lite on dvd burner at work and have been very pleased with it. My cd burner at home is an antique, but keeps on chugging along..... -Samantha

Yup... Just tried to send an email using my samisite.com address from Outlook and it came back asking me for a user name and password to logon to the account, which I had already saved. I do not get these errors with OE, but if I can get Outlook working I prefer it so I can have more, and more detailed mail sorting rules. Attached another image of the email in the outbox and the 3 accounts on samisite that are trying to connect. -Samantha

I have been using an old version of Outlook Express (5) and want to switch my email functions to Microsoft Outlook 2002 instead because it has better rule abilities. (Forgot I loaded it with my Office suite! DUH) I have already imported messages, and accounts and tried to run the send/receive. The accounts for my ISP are working fine. But the accounts set up for my website are not connecting through Outlook 2002, but so connect through OE. I compared the settings in both programs and they are identical that I can see, even the port settings, LAN, etc. I also verified the setting against the tutorial TCH offers on totalchoicehosting.com/help/id54.htm and that matches. I really thought this would be a no-brainer. Have set up so many accounts on so many machines.... Screen print of one account error attached. Any suggestions welcome. -Samantha

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. woooot THANK YOU. Thumbs Up So glad I asked about the ZA AV product. I will go elsewhere. On this and other machines, I have had bad experieces with several Norton products so really didn't want to upgrade to a new version of the AV. Trend PC-Cillin AV works well in some machines but is not compatible with ZA products according to their own support pages. And I just don't like McAfee - it caused a MESS on one machine so I avoid it. Am looking at the links you folks provided to see what is the best fit for this cranky machine. It's wonderful to have some new options!! (Someday I hope to upgrade). I have always gotten some good tips/advice from this board that have resolved some headaches and prevented others. I greatly appreciate the feedback. -Samantha

I have been running Norton Antivirus and the free ZoneAlarm firewall (since my Norton firewall began giving me fits a year ago ). I switched to ZA last June on the recommendation of several people on this board. The combination has been working well. I got a notice that Norton no longer offers subscription for the 2001 version AV software and I would have to upgrade to 2004 version ($40). Since the Zone Alarm has worked so well on my machine (very finicky about software) I was considering if I should now use their AV software instead of Norton. It's half the price, but more importantly, Norton HAS caused problems sometimes, but ZA hasn't. Any thoughts, recommendations? -Samantha

If you are using Outlook, you really don't have to go to another piece of software to do what you want. Use "signatures" to boilerplate paragraphs! In our business, I use a combination of 25 or so standard answers, then tweak as necessary. Each of the 25 is placed in it's own signature. Then as I compose a letter, I just choose to insert the signature that fits. Sometimes I use a combination of 3 or four signatures to create a response that answers more than one answer by just choosing Insert Signature and choosing one from the list, then repeating several times. Each signature could be as small as a single character or as long as a full page email. Fast, easy, customizable font, etc. I have one that says the pdf file(s) attached discuss..... and that to view them you must have Acrobat Reader and include a link to download if necessary. The last signature is always my name, company, phone, etc. You can use the internal editor, or external (usually WORD) to create your signature in the format you prefer. -Samantha

Thomas, Your image shows that INCREDIFIND generated that page. You need to run adaware (free from lavasoft) or pest patrol or spy bot, etc to remove the adware program that generated that page. The problem is that you have a program ON YOUR MACHINE that causes your browser to be hijacked and sent to another direction. It's only purpose is to direct you to sites that sponsor the program! It is scumware, drawing resources and interfering with your surfing. Read more here: http://www.pestpatrol.com/pestinfo/k/keenv...incredifind.asp You probably have had more instances of ads being generated from within your own machine and don't realize it. -Samantha

LOL That makes sense! I just know that my own typing is not perfect and wanted to make sure MY list of passwords matched what cpanel has. Guess my only option is to try and sign in with each... Thanks. -Samantha
-
I have made a protected folder with Web protect and added about 100 passwords using cpanel. When I go into the htpasswds file it does show all the user names I have added. And all work fine. But the passwords shown in the password file are not what I assigned. Is there a way to get a list of the TRUE passwords I put in using the Web Protect interface? For example - a temporary password I set up to just test this situation: user id: visitor password is: testpage in the password file it shows: visitor:v4ATthvz4ziHw -Samantha

I understand the concern about email. That's why I am seeking guidance for other directions. Unfortunately, I had this posted for a week under another heading and NO ONE offered any assistance. Yours is the first post. I didn't think it was such a strange request! -Samantha

Thank you for responding! Is there a better way to do it? Or something I should read to point me in another direction? -Samantha

If I want a business customer to submit credit card number in a form, how do I do that and make sure the data will be secure? (I am not talking shopping cart because we do not have the BULK FREIGHT cost calculated at the time the form is submitted so nothing can be charged on the card until later in the day.) Does it just take an SSL certificate and a regular email form on a secure server address? The SSL certificate offered for sale ($85) by TCH, is that 40 bit or 128 bit encryption and does it have a warranty? I was reading an ssl certificate comparison chart here: www.whichssl.com/ssl-certificate-comparison.html Also, does anyone know of a form program that allows me to set up database with prices and I can draw the prices from the database rather than building prices INTO the form code which will take me far longer to update? Thanks for any suggestions here. -Samantha

I know that emails generated by online forms are not secure so I currently have to call our customer after a form is submitted to confirm the card number if we do not have it already on file. I'm using Phorm jr on a form that works great! Only thing, so far I can't figure how to get the authorization page to work so it will ask user to look at data before submitting (form page, auth page, confirmed send page). Have you tried that feature? -Samantha

RESOLVED by TCH-RICK. The lambertusa.com email addresses were not forwarding properly from TCH servers but now they are! Rock Sign THe PHORMjr PHP script is quite pleasant to work with. -Samantha

Between not getting confirmation of the help ticket and having NO internet for more than 7 hours today (and no phones, fax, email) due to lightening strikes in our area overheating our com board, I wasn't really sure you could even reach me with email or PM hence this post. I know you were squeezed for time and have other requests. I just wanted you to know that I greatly appreciate the help you've provided. -Samantha

Rick just replied. Resolved! He's the MAN!!!!!!!!!!!! Thumbs Up THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! Rock Sign Good idea. Will mark it for reference on my cheat sheet. -Samantha

Last night I submitted a help desk ticket, but received no response and no confirmation email. I just turned in another ticket and again, the comment at the top of the screen says but nothing ever comes. It might be related to the reason for the help ticket in the first place! This is tonight's request for help: I attached the response email that shows the error for for reference but here's a snippet. Please know that emails made to the lambertusa.com address go through fine, except when originated by TCH. That may be why my help tickets get lost.....the emails are sent to the wrong place. HELP please! I tried to PM TCH Rick this morning (he happened to be online at the same time I was) about the situation, but did not get a response yet. Might all be related to same problem. Thanks! -Samantha (edited to clear out real email address)
