TotalChoiceHosting Family,

Good day to everyone. The reason I am making this post is to obtain some input on a certain matter. A few people have asked me to see if I would be interested in starting a forum here in TotalChoiceHosting Family Forums. You see this is a Christian topic and I want everyone to be honest when they are replying to this topic.

Bill (HCSuperStores) and I are thinking about asking TotalChoiceHosting to add a Christian forum for those that want to learn more about Jesus. The details are still being worked out and your voice is important so please reply with your concerns.

I do know it will be a place of fellowship and to learn about Jesus. You will be able to submit your prayer and praise requests. I know without a doubt it will be a great addition to the TotalChoice Family Forums.

Im not religious myself in anyway. I believe there is something, but if to call it Jesus, Allah, Bill or whatever i dont know.

As for a forum for this, i wouldnt mind it as long it wont be something advertised as "you must" or "Come here and Jesus will..." Sorry, i tend to stand back when those things are done. In other words people must have the option to make their choice and if the choice is either positive or negative, its respected.

To quote Lianna

My opinions and recommendations are not neccessarily those of TCH and TCH is not responsible.

I know this is family forum and I love the enviroment and people here. If I didn't I wouldn't volunteer my time. But as much as we have a family here, this forum is still attached to a business. Putting aside all beliefs, I think if we create a specific forum to accomodate a specific group/belief system/organization... then we would eventually have to accomodate all that ask. But that decision is not up to me.

Don't give anyone any ideas. They already thought Bill was a robot.

I am not religious in any way.

But solong as it does not put us that choose not to take part in that forum down, then I must say I do not care if you do so.

Just my input.

I am a Christian, and I certainly do not mean any offense, Lightkeeper, but honestly I don't think TCH's forums are really the place for specific religious discussions. It IS a business, and although we do discuss off-topic things in certain forums, you and I both know how political/religious or ANY controversial subjects don't tend to stay nice and friendly no matter how hard the forumkeepers try to make it that way.

What I would suggest is to make a forum on your site (or for someone to on their site) and to advertise it in here if anyone is interested.

My statements, views, comments and/or concerns are not to be taken as those of Total Choice Hosting

Jason, I find it commendable that you are so fervent in your passion and convictions. And I applaud you for being so forthright and open about them... especially in this day and age.

However, as several have said, the forums are attached to a business. One that caters to persons of all walks of life, creeds, religions (or lack thereof), etc. To place a forum where it was Christian only, would be showing favoritism in an area that is not a part of that business. You then would have to do the same for Hare Krishna (sp??), Hindu, Muslim, and even the folks who choose to worship those of the supposedly darker religions (Voodoo, Satan, Wiccan, etc.).

I truly feel that it is not a place that TCH should get in to. If this were less of a World community here (e.g. Thomas from Sweden) where Christianity is not necessarily the primary or even legal religion of the land, it would be easier to substantiate such a venture.

If the forum were not so focused on the monotheist views of one version of religion, and were open to all forms of religion and worship, it would be easier to accomodate. However, you would then be faced with Christians (in your case) sharing the same threads with a Muslim or Jewish or any of the other thousands of religions out there (and that is only the ones believing in a heaven of Good, or a heaven at all, not taking into account the darker religions).

I hope you can understand the positions of those who have responded in both directions.

I do like the mention of setting it up on your own or some other site, and offering it up to folks here who wish to be a part of it off of the TCH forums.

My thoughts and opinions expressed do not represent the thoughts and opinion of TCH or any TCH non-moderator staff member.

I am converting to Catholicism, and if there is one thing I've learned, it is community at the church I attend.

I commend you, Light, for even coming forth with such a suggestion. You must be very firm in your beliefs, and I respect that a great deal about you. I have no doubt about any of that.

My thought here is that creating a separate Christiam forum would not bode well for our family structure. Something like that could easily divide up the wonderful Family Forums we have. And that is one of the best parts of TCH! The Forums!

In my opinion, we don't need a forum that would separate our users and potentially cause religious arguments. We don't need any single religious group of TCHers separated out from the rest. We're one big family!

That being said, I don't see any problem with you or anybody else setting up their own forum somewhere else for Christian TCHers. That would not seem officially sanctioned by TCH itself.

Wow tough one. As good as it may seem, I believe from a business standpoint it may give off the wrong impression to people that may be wanting to join the family.

Not everyone has the same beliefs and devoting a forum to a subject that has been the cause of many wars in a family that is diverse as ours just doesnt seem like the best of ideas. It also puts the staff here in a potentiel bind, seems like it would be an issue just to moderate.

Just my thoughts.

It never fails to amaze me how people who claim to be open minded are the ones who are always "offended" by people having opinions that differ from theirs. ;)

Alrighty folks, let us remember that we are adults here. ;)

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and did ask for everyone to be honest.

I gotta say this on a personal note... if angers are flared this quickly (in all directions) just by the idea of making a suggestion, imagine what could happen in the actual forum, if it came to be, if someone of a differing opinion came in asking questions that were tough for even the most devout to answer.

There can be no peace without total and unconditional understanding.

I'm not offended by your opinions. You are welcome to them. I'm offended by the idea that you think you need to impose them upon others in their own environments. Doesn't your church have sunday school classes or other places where you can learn or teach about Jesus in an appropriate setting? Or can't you invite people to your home for that purpose? When I sign on to the forums in search of a solution to an IT problem or in hopes of helping others with problems they might be having or just in hopes of sharing some comraderie, I don't think it's right that I, or any other non-christian 'family' member, should be made to feel like an outsider or like someone who needs saving or educating.

This is a webhosting company so I assume you have a website. Perhaps you should put your christian forum on your own site. I'm sure many TCH family members would be happy to participate there.

Sorry Glenn... I just saw your post, but I've got to speak my mind.

Randy, Not really a problem. Everyone is entitled to such. I just have to watch out and make sure that it does not go any further than it has so far. I am sure that all can understand the fervor that folks can feel for something in which the are strongly convicted. However, we must remain tactful and understanding of other's views without reproach on either side of the coin.

Jason (and all),

I am a Christian. I believe it to be the true depiction of the way the universe is and all that relates to it. I also do not subscribe to the "policitally correct" philosophy of today that we should never offend anyone at any cost. If we did this with strict adherance we would never say, nor possibly think, anything of any substance because everyone has an opinion and you can bet that someone in the world has a different one than yours.

That aside, and thanks for bearing with me while I made my position clear, the forums here do and should relate to things web-ish. That covers a lot from search engines to php to backend services. We do have an open discussion area but it should be kept to lighthearted discussions, IMO.

I do not think the TCH Family Forum is a proper place for a Christian forum, although I have found many Christians that are members here and obviously have no problem with the content. If a member were to create such a forum I don't think there would be a problem with dropping in a simple note in open discussion that says "Hey, I created a Christian forum, come check it out." as long as it followed the TOS and AUP.

I don't think it is a matter of having to accomodate other beliefs or even a matter of how difficult it would be to moderate but rather it is a matter of TCH is all-things-hosting-related. Plain and simple.

I am surprised that anyone would be offended by the suggestion - as a Christian I would not be offended by someone wanting to create an atheist forum, for example, but I also would not hang out there. I would simply reply as I did to this suggestion and state that I don't think TCH is the place for it.

Jason, cheers to you for being a man of integrity in sticking to your convictions and having the boldness to say so. If you create the forum then please PM me about it.

Religion and hosting do not go hand in hand. If you would like to have a forum of this sort then might I suggest that you purchase a hosting plan and open a forum of your own.

I'm sorry for having to close the thread but we can not allow this to get out of hand. I hope you understand.
