Hi,

Whilst I don't believe there is a maximum in that sense, (although if you start emailing 1000s out, you may start to have a problem) if you do hog system resources in sending them or people start complaining of spam, I think you know the rest!

Thank you Jim. In the 2 1/2 years we've had Lyrics Playground never once have we sent out a mailing and we do have an important announcement to make. So this is pretty much a one-shot deal.

Thanks <_<

If you have the luxury of time you may want to chat with HG about it. This will let you ask "how much is too much" and it will forewarn him of the specifics of your one-shot deal.

:) Strange I never thought 1,000 was all that many since your average e-mail list can have 500 subscribers easily and each message will go to each of them. I can see such a list sending out 10,000 messages a day.

Hey Box,

Just wanted to give you a heads up: apparently there is a limit, which can be altered, of 200 messages an hour. First I heard of it was this morning while reading my help desk ticket. So make sure you give them a heads up.

I'm configuring a cgi script to send my site's mailing list. I have now 741 subscribers.

I can configure the script to send X messages every Y seconds/minutes/hours.

I would like to know what are the best values for X and Y, that don't cause any problems to TCH servers.

Thanks. B)

The amount of e-mails sent AND the amount of them that get reported as spam are where the problems start. 200 an hour was the max I dont know if that has changed or not.

Believe it or not the biggest problem with mass mailings isnt the amount you send, although that could become a problem, but how many get reported to various ISP's as spam, even though the person reporting them as spam signed up to receive them and just doesnt remember.

TCH has been hammered with spam complaints, some legit, some not. The thing is when we get so many spam complaints the server gets blacklisted. The only way to keep the server from getting blacklisted is to stop the person that is sending the mail that is generating the complaints to stop sending mail entirely.
