eFashion2Go Posted August 23, 2003 Posted August 23, 2003 Anyone, I cannot seem to get it right, sigh, I can't figure out "how to" use CSB. Anyway, these are a few examples of what I want to accomplish in a page set up, of course, colors and what not would be different. This one is, okay. http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/mjrsales/ This one is a more basic. http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/evalueville/ I really, love this one! http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/gothamcityonline/ It's creative, has a cool theme and is informative and functional. So, if I can figure out how to build a website with CSB great but I want to do one like Gotham City's webpage, can it be done using CSB? I'm about to chuck it and give up, it's very difficult to understand and also very time consuming. If I were getting somewhere, I'd keep going and trying but so far, it's beyond me and I'm running out of patience. Thanks in advance, Tara Quote
442GlenwoodAvenue Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 Well, you will need to give a little more detail on the problems your having. In general though, you’re not going to be able to produce something like those e-bay websites - at least in the beginning. Those were most likely designed by professionals – and involve some advanced code behind the pages. If you really want to learn how to build a website and get it online, - think simple - and small in the beginning. I remember my first webpage a few years ago. It only said "test". But I got a rush out of it. May I suggest you do the same thing for now. Get a page very simple page published first, even if it only has one word in it. Then add to it gradually. One step at a time. I use Frontpage, which will likely frustrate a beginner. I did download CuteSight last week and played around with it. It's pretty much designed around the wizards and templates - which can be a little limiting if you want total control over your webpages. That's not a bad thing - as this program is one of the easier ways to get started. Might even have used it myself - if it had been available a few years ago. 442 Quote
Digirunt Posted August 24, 2003 Posted August 24, 2003 I'm about to chuck it and give up, it's very difficult to understand and also very time consuming. Nooo, don't give up. Hi Tara, I new absolutley nothing about HTML or even what it stood for a couple of years ago and never thought I'd be able to pick it up. I used to run a shop on Ebay like yourself and wanted to make my about me page and my adds look more. . err. . dynamic I suppose. The only problem was that to edit those pages on ebay you needed to be able to put this HTML code into a little box on the Ebay site and that then was way beyond me. Are you trying to create an about me page which displays your shop like the examples you listed or are you trying to make a stand alone web site? If you want to do it the Ebay way with a suped up about me page you need a way to create the HTML code without having to Know to much about it. I did this using a thing called Frontpage Express. This was a program created in the days before Microsoft wanted to take over the world and it really was incredibly simple but seemed to get the job done. If you are able to use Microsoft word with reasonable efficiency it may help as it is very similar except it creates web pages instead of print pages. Anyway forget that for a minute. With your Ebay shop you are limitd to one page which gives you a couple of options. Your first examlpe is like MJR Sales (the first site you listed). You can put all your information on one page that is quite long and use the links at the top to jump up and down the page. These are called bookmarks. Then your catagory links can go straight your Ebay listings for that catagory. Your second example is like Gotham City Online. They have used their page as a cover page for a web site hosted elsewhere so all the links jump to the relavent page on the website. The first option is the simpler of the two as it only reqires on page to be created. With either option you will need to put all the pictures that your page will use in your TCH webspace and reference them from your ebay page as Ebay do not provide storage fo them on their site. Cutesite builder is a great tool for people who want to make websites however if you want to make an ebay shop it's probably not the best tool as you need to create very simple and accessible HTML code which you can copy into the ebay box. Let me know exactly what you want to acheive. eg. Do you want an Ebay shop that looks like the ones you've listed or a seperate web site? Do you have any design ideas in mind? How are you at designing logo's and graphic etc.? If you want an Ebay shop like say MJR sales with your own look and feel let me know because I may be able to help out. This way would be easier for updating because it would point to your listings on ebay which you can easily change whereas a seperate website would need manually updating everytime you change a product. Anyway let me know more and I will see what I can do. Quote
eFashion2Go Posted August 26, 2003 Author Posted August 26, 2003 Digirunt and crew, Thanks for getting back to me. I really like the Gotham City Online site, it's functional, and ties into their name, I like the whole theme idea. I'm an artist so, this appeals to me. However, I'm just starting out and I'm still in the process of getting the financial backing to buy in bulk as these sites are doing. So, for now, a one page site like MJR would be fine but I eventually I would want a complete "About Me" page that links to an off site website. Did that make any sense? I don't really care for the look of MJR, not very attractive but that could be redone. I have absolutely no idea how to create anything. I know, very basic html but would be willing to learn more if I could get a result. I've been dying to create a theme, create a banner, and all but have no idea of how to go about doing this. I've been to Google looking for sites that offer free services to create these things but can't find any. I found CityMax.com and it was fun goofing around but who wants to pay their price or belong to them? I wish you could just buy whatever it is they are using to create sites and just pop it into your computer and go with it but I can't find anything. Does anyone know what they are using? Where you basically fill in the blanks and tweek it here and there. I thought about trying to create a site there and then cut/paste it and then rearrange it but I don't even know if that's legal or how to do it if it is legal. I cannot afford to pay anyone big bucks to create a site for me and I HATE giving up the artistic control for something so personal. My company's name is, eFashion2Go. My tagline is, "Satisfy your passion for fashion." I don't know, my fav color is purple, purple seems to be a natural with the word "passion", butterflies hold a personal and special meaning for me, as do violets. I don't want a goofy, flower and butterfly webpage/website though, lol. Sigh, it's very frustrating to want to create a website and not know how. Even if I did know how to do it, then how do I get it transfered to the webspace? OMG, the cpanel is beyond weird to me. I mean, what the hell is all of that stuff ... You see, I'm doooooooomed Lol! If you want to be kind enough to lend your time and energy trying to help me see the light I would appreciate it but I don't know, can I be helped? Lol, I was actually going to cancel but saw your post and I'm willing to try. Okay, very basic then, where can I go or what do I do to create a banner? That's crawling, right? Let me know, thanks. I really appreciate everyone's time and effort on my behalf. Tara eFashion2Go Quote
Digirunt Posted August 27, 2003 Posted August 27, 2003 (edited) Hello Tara, I'm sorry my replies are so slow at the moment but I'm setting up a business and things are getting hectic to say the least. However I always have time to help those in need where I can so I'll try. Ok that's a start, I'll throw together some graphics you can look at and then tell me what you want based on what I've come up with. I always find doing the graphics first get my creative juices flowing and the rest just follows. You don't need to give up any creativity because I'll work with you each step and let you add input as to design. I've help out 'Mwtars' and 'Fivetofollow' so far and they'll confirm that I am trustworthy so if I need any passwords to access your web space later they should make good references. Right give me a few days to come up with some ideas and please don't cancel here, you'r definitely at the best host on the web and i'm sure between us we'll get there. Thanks Nat Thumbs Up P.S. I do not want anything in return for helping you, I'm just happy to be able to help. Edited August 27, 2003 by Digirunt Quote
Digirunt Posted August 29, 2003 Posted August 29, 2003 OK, here is one suggestion, let me know what you like and don't like about it. If anyone else would like to give some feedback it would be appreciated. First offering for efasion2go Thumbs Up Quote
eFashion2Go Posted August 29, 2003 Author Posted August 29, 2003 Digirunt, I have another browser open to my email with instructions on how to cancel. I'm not a quitter by any means but the cpanel and design issues has me overwhelmed and I figured I could learn it and then come back later and try it again. Of course, later might be awhile when everything your reading looks like another language. I thought I'd come here one last time to see if I could find a solution, and then I saw your reply, saint52 sums it up pretty well. It is extremely kind of you to offer your time and effort on my behalf, and without asking for anything in return. To tell you the truth, I cannot believe it, wow. You just whip up pages, 1,2,3, lol, I'm jealous. Okay, I will stay, I have a saint helping me, how can I fail? Is it alright if I look around for visual examples of what I see in my minds eye to try and convey what I wish I could create? I certainly, don't want to offend you by being "picky" and I don't want to waste your time either with you trying to guess. Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't I figure out a logo that can be the foundation of a theme within the site? Kind of carried through entire site? Right? Remember I don't know much about technical aspects but know art and have an eye. Gosh, I'm getting excited now, even smiling! I still can't believe your going to help me, I mean, so many people are so damn grumpy and don't want to be bothered these days, thanks you! I'm rambling now, so should I gather a bunch of graphics as you mentioned and colors, etc? My Yahoo ID is magie_noire8. Okay, closing my email browser and off to look for pics, etc. Yea! Happy, happy ... me. Quote
TCH-JimE Posted August 29, 2003 Posted August 29, 2003 Hi, Nice page digigrunt, I would suggest making that top banner a little bit smaller, but otherwise, nice! Jim Quote
eFashion2Go Posted August 29, 2003 Author Posted August 29, 2003 Jimuni, Yes, it is a very nice page and he is being very nice in helping me. digigrunt, I see you write poetry too, hey, this is way cool! Okay, here is a poem I wrote back in 1994, I went through a series of experiences that challenged everything I believed in from love to myself. As it turned out, I became a better and wiser person. Sometimes, the saying, no pain, no gain rings true in more ways than one. So, here it is, hope you like it. Of Your Choice See them move, here them shift According to your every wish, Perceptions. Yesterday this, tomorrow that Insanely they judge insanity, In a mad attempt to justify it's reality. A free Will comes with choices, You can create from only one, of two inner voices. Today which would you hear? Of your choice There is love or fear, Choose! To remember or forget. Tara-1994 Okay, "now" I'm off hunting for my graphics and what not. PS-I haven't written in years and use to love to write, so you see, you've inspired me to write again, a double-good deed. Quote
Digirunt Posted August 29, 2003 Posted August 29, 2003 Thanks for sticking with us Tara. The Graphic idea is a good one. You give me a scrap book of ideas and I'll try to turn it into a page. The page I put up is to give you ideas and a ray of hope. It seems to have worked aswell. I await your input before proceeding further. I would suggest making that top banner a little bit smaller, but otherwise, nice!Good point, that's me forgetting not everyone is viewing this site at high resolutions like me.Will amend accordingly once Tara has presented some ideas. I see you write poetry too, hey, this is way cool! Alas, I cannot take credit for my fathers work. The site is my work the poetry is his and he is the Saint [supposedly]. But I'll show him your poem, thanks for the kind words. digigrunt! I hope this is a typo? It's definitly not as cool as Digirunt. LOL Thumbs Up Quote
eFashion2Go Posted August 29, 2003 Author Posted August 29, 2003 Good morning, everyone! Actually, I never went to sleep, I'm up looking for examples of web/pages/sites for Digirunt, who is being kind and helping me with ... The CREATION! RJSkon Posted August 30, 2003 Posted August 30, 2003 Tara Creating a template for CuteSite is very easy, don't give up the ship. I have created a Design Template for CSB similar to the one that you like at GothamCityonline. Visit http://rjskon.com/templates/, click on the "Plain Templates" button, once there click on thumbnail template image #29, that will take you to a full size Design Template. If you think that you can use the Design Template let me know and I will upload the files to that template page for you, it is a freebie. Richard Quote

eFashion2Go Posted August 30, 2003 Author Posted August 30, 2003 RJSkon, OMG, how did you do that? Thumbs Up I tried the CSB and couldn't figure out how to use it ... Duh. I really cannot believe how nice everyone is here, I mean, you people are the best! I'm really overwhemled with your kindness, time and effort on my behalf. I can't begin to tell you how many nights I've stayed up long after putting my son to sleep trying to figure out how to create a website. Not some goofy looking site but one like you see while browsing other sites, one that looks as professional as other sites you see but is personalized to your tastes. Your so fortunate to understand how to put it all together, it must be a lot of fun creating them once you understand how to do it. I'm an artist, and I think I'd go nuts creating sites if I knew how to do it. So, many options available for expression and functionality. Where and how did you get those matching graphics? Lol, as much as I'd love to use them, I better not. Gotham City Online is a monster on eBay and I don't think they'd like it if I used their graphics, no matter how tempting. I'm amazed that you did that though, it's to cool! Digirunt is helping me too. Gosh, I cannot believe it ... all of this help, you guys are gonna make me tear up ... I was going bonzo trying to figure out something. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and couldn't stand looking at my less than stellar attempts at making a site, lol ... yuck. In my minds eye, I invision a site that is easy to navigate, and has excitment in it's content, a little drama, it really pulls you in. Artistic, themed and fun! Now, from there, well, that's the thing, how do I do this? I'm selling fashion, my company name is; eFashion2Go. My tagline/slogan is; "Satisfy your passion for fashion!" I live in fabulous, Las Vegas, Nevada. My favorite color is a rich shade of purple but it doesn't have to be purple. I'd enjoy the colors purple, gold, black, and crisp white, hints of green. However, that red template in my previous post is oh, so SEXY! So, a red theme is nice too. I'd really like to incorporate a butterfly (wings slowly opening/closing) somehow, whether attached to my company name (on the 2 or F?), eFashion2Go or somewhere that carries through my site and company theme. Butterflies hold a very special meaning to me, as do violets. Pssst, the two remind me of my grandmother, who in my mind is the person who taught me ... love. Sorry, getting, gushy. However, if not careful, the site ends up looking like a goofy butterfly/flower site. Lol, believe me I know. I like the dramatic fashion photos added as well and a flash header is a dream. The words that describe what I want to feel when viewing my site would be, classy, professional, dramatic, magical, sexy, desire, inviting, addicting, hip, cool, youthful, popular, original, unique, enduring, memorable, satisfying, delicious. I mean, if I knew how to do it ... I'd go all out. Okay, okay, I'm waving bye-bye to Tattoo, I know, I'm on Fantasy Island and the boat is leaving the dock, lol but one can dream, right? Hey, I don't know what you want to do with regard to helping me, I can see that there are extremely nice and talented people here and I feel fortunate to be a part of TCH, lol, I'm the lucky one, I have these great people helping me create, my dream. I mean, really, that's what it is, my site represents, me and my dream. I hope that I don't offend anyone along the way, with regard to creativity. Like I mentioned before, I really can't believe how kind everyone is and how your offering your help without asking for anything in return, it's overwhelming, and very refreshing ... lots of mean, grumpy people out there. Thank you doesn't seem fitting enough but it's all I can offer, thank you. Have a great weekend all! Tara eFashion2Go PS-What are good, easy to read books about creating websites? I should still educate myself on this subject. I don't aspire to be a guru but don't want to be inept either. Suggestions? Costs? Quote
RJSkon Posted August 31, 2003 Posted August 31, 2003 Tara If you haven't thrown in the towel yet, here is another simple starter site created for CuteSite Builder, it's yours for the taking, the .tlx file is on the Home Page for downloading, the site is about twelve pages. You can see it here, http://rjskon.com/efashions2go/ I can also place the graphic file there that I use in the top border if you like, you may want to change it somewhat. Once you start using CuteSite Builder it will become a snap, especially with the experience that you have in design work. You can also post your questions at the CuteSite/Trellix Forum at, http://www.globalscape.com/board/default.asp?b=1, KW, Samantha and many others are always there to help. There is also a draft copy of a "Help Manual" that GlobalScape has published in Acrobat format at, http://www.globalscape.com/files/CSB_UserGuide.pdf which is very helpful, I downloaded it to my hard drive, it makes for faster viewing. Good luck with your site. Richard Quote
Samrc Posted September 1, 2003 Posted September 1, 2003 Hi Tara! Let me welcome you to the CSB family too. As Richard mentioned, Globalscape has a forum for user to user assistance with CSB. We'll help you too! http://www.globalscape.com/board/ Also, may I suggest a couple sites that offer specific CSB assisantance/tutorials and answer questions (besides Richard's wonderful template site): KW's the guru of CSB: http://www.csbsupport.com/index.htm Curtis has all the extra goodies that make sites special: http://www.cmg02.com/webmasters Turtle has this area of his site: http://csb.thepetscorner.com/examples.htm and my site: http://www.samisite.com CSB may seem to be locked into pre-set templates but that's not the whole story! You can modify the templates you have, create your own, or choose to not use templates at all and do your own thing (as I do on many of my sites). The key is to take it one step at a time and try different things that you find on the support sites. Just like anything you do, you get better with practice and patience. Give yourself a break! None of us came out of the womb running. We had to situp, crawl, and waddle first, with a lot of bumps and fruises along the way. Hang in there....it gets easier! And more fun! -Samantha Quote
Digirunt Posted September 4, 2003 Posted September 4, 2003 http://www.saint52.com/other/e2go/ I've created a couple more logo's for you to have a look at, there in the old template but I've done that because it's easy to work with. The animated butterfly is not part of the logo it is over so it can be overlayed on any logo if you like it? Once we've got a logo and a colour scheme I'll create some alternative templates for you to look at. Sorry that it seems to be taking some time between replies but I've got a lot on at the moment and my grandmother has been unwell. Thumbs Up Quote
tgshaw Posted September 22, 2003 Posted September 22, 2003 Since the most recent post in this thread is a few weeks old, this may be a moot point, but just in case... I have none of the technical knowledge the other people who've given advice do. I don't know a lick of HTML. But I'm an incurable "putzer" when I get a new toy to play with, and for the last few months my most entertaining toy has been the CSB "Edit Page Layout" function. I start with a built-in CSB web design such as "white," save it as a .tld file with a new name, and play with it from there. You can change borders, fonts, text colors, background color on each page area (or use an image instead), decide what colors you want your hyperlinks to be, insert a logo you want to appear on each page... and other things that don't come to mind right now, and I'm sure many things that I haven't discovered yet (I think this will give me many happy months of putzing ). And you can make your homepage completely different from your other pages if you want, just by editing the "home page" page layout. CSB's Help menu is very, ummm... helpful, and much of what's on the Help menu is now in the user's guide that was referred to earlier. I think someone who's creative and has a design background could come up with a fabulous-looking website using the web design features in CSB. Here's an amazing site I go to for just about any kind of image I'm looking for (and many that I don't know I'm looking for until I see them). Their collection of backgrounds alone is worth every pop-behind ad you have to endure : http://www.pics.am/ --Trudy (And, yes, Richard, I'm still trying to figure out how to do that bitmap thingy--did I mention I don't know much tech stuff ?--so I can make some of my designs available for other CSB users to download.) TCH-Don Posted September 22, 2003 Posted September 22, 2003 Trudy, if by bit map thing, you mean the thumbnail you see as you browse through the different templates, just put up a blank page with your design and hit alt-printscreen to capture. Then paste into a graphic program, resize to 156x102 and save as a BMP file with the same name as your .tld file. Quote
tgshaw Posted September 23, 2003 Posted September 23, 2003 Hi, Richard & Turtle-- I don't see anything happen when I hit alt+printscreen. I know from making screencaps with my DVD program that the screencapture is probably getting created and being saved somewhere, but I've looked in what I thought were the "likely places" and haven't found anything. Any hints on where it might be hiding? If there were some way I could do this through my DVD program, I'd know what do to get the capture (press the "p" key) and where the bitmap would be saved (capture folder in the DVD program). But outside the DVD program I don't know what's getting saved and where it's being stored. After you have the screen capture, the Help menu says to crop off the title bar--does that mean the top part of the computer screen, or the title on the web design? My hp "hardware" help says to use alt+printscreen to capture an image of the "currently active window" and to press only printscreen to capture the entire screen. Would that affect what's going to need to be cropped? And when the instructions say to take all text out of the borders, etc., do they mean even things such as "Home Page Title" or just text that's been specifically added? BTW, the only button I see on my keyboard that seems to be a candidate for "printscreen" is one that says "PrtScn SysRq". Is that the right one, or is there something else I should be using? Gee, and you guys thought this was simple ! Any help would be appreciated--I'm really at a loss here. Thanks. --Trudy Quote
RJSkon Posted September 23, 2003 Posted September 23, 2003 Trudy To capture the Bitmap image of your template, preview your template in CuteSite and than do the following. Click on the "Print Screen" button or "Sys Rq" (one in the same) this sends the image of the screen to Windows Clip Board. After you have done that, open Windows Paint Brush and click on "Edit" and than on "Paste", the image will appear, at this time you can move the screen capture around by placing the cursor on the screen, move your template so the top border is close to the top of the screen, crop the area of your Template from border to border, click "Copy" open a new window in Paintbrush and paste the cropped image there and than save the file with the same name as your template. This is the hard part, you now have to resize the image of your template so it will work in the CSB wizards. The image wants to be resized to 156 pixels wide by 106 pixels high (106 pixels high is not critical), once the image is resized, save it to the "WebDesigns" folder, the resized image must have the same name as your template file with a .bmp extension. If you don’t have an image program that can resize an image, you can download a freebie called "Easy Thumbnails" at, http://fookes.com/ Good Luck Richard Quote
tgshaw Posted September 24, 2003 Posted September 24, 2003 Ah-ha! See, I never would have thought of it being on the clipboard, because to me that's only the limbo where text exists between "cut" and "paste." Thanks ! I haven't had a chance to try this yet, and probably won't until the weekend as it's a heavy week at work. (I can post here during a spare minute at the office, but can only use CSB on my home computer.) I have a couple of programs that resize pictures (including bitmaps), so I'd think at least one of them should work for this. Quote

Lianna Posted September 30, 2003 Posted September 30, 2003 Tara, It doesn't appear that you are still using CuteSITE Builder to create your page? You should be able to use any graphics software to create a logo...although the "how" would be very specific to the software you choose. Buttons and logos - there are a ton of flash generators on the web. One site specifically jumps to mind (and you'll find a gob of other goodies for webmasters there too) at Curtis' site. Good luck!
