Hardware Just Laying Around

I dont know if all "tech" type people are the same, but if they are I bet between all of us we could build a frankenstien of a computer out of parts just laying around. I have 6 cases in my closet and a HUGE box of random parts under my bed, everything from ISA modems to duron motherboards....whats in your PC parts stash??

I guess I could build one or two old computers if I'd gather everything I have laying around...

 

I don't keep a lot of stuff, now. I used to do that but since my house is not that big, I started selling the computer parts I knew I didn't need. Which, for a computer geek, can be a very hard decision to make

I am a right horder, I have 6 or 7 mother boards countless PSU and more cases than I can cram under my bed.

Even the broken stuff gets kept in case someday I meet someone who say "Ah yes I specialise in revitalising melted processors."

OK maybe not.

 

I think it's close to time for a clearout but it's so painful, memories of computers like Amigas and Acorns lurking in dark corners.

 

I have built several PC's from the parts in the past and it's great fun trying to manually configure the bios without pre-boot VGA support?

Hi,

 

I chucked a huge amount out over the weekend, but before the weekend I had about 5 hdd, 2x socket 7 motherboards with appropiate processors, 2x PCGA socket boards (the old celeron ones), a few soundcards and modems. All got chucked although I took a hammer to each one before I took it to the skip so that the tip people couldn't take it home and use it!

I ended up giving most of my old hardware away..

 

I had 2 xt computers, a 286, a 286 portable pc (size of a suitcase), and a bunch of pentium 1's..

 

i'm down to a p4 1.6/ amd xp 1700, and a amd k62 450..

looking for a cheep laptop p200ish with min 2gig hd and 64 meg ram, cd, and floppy.

 

willing to trade replaytv 4840 (40gig hd inside) works fine.... (I have 2 only need one.)

2 HP Monitors (one is VERY dim, and the other one blinks in and out)

 

1 Old HP Pavilion (Around 3 or 4 years old, bad hard drive and CD-ROM drive, as soon as I have time time, I plan on playing around with it.. ) Nerd

3 Sets of computer speakers

 

3 Old Mice (one wireless)

 

An uncountable number of wires which I have no idea what I'll ever use for.

 

Then a bunch of other things I could only file under the category of "misc"

sounds like i need to make a better list of what i have,

 

6 computer caes in the closet (4 are brand new)

1 computer case under the table

1 computer case next to the table (these do not include the computers i use)

4 brand new power supplies 400 watts and up 2 SATA ready.

3-4 used power supplies 300 watts and up

at least 6 amd heatsinks and fans

about 20 fans in assorted colors some with LED lights some with cold cathode lights

HP scanner and cannon color printer (both work i use niether)

2 slot type duron motherboards

1 socket type durn motherboard

2 ISA usr modems

5-6 PCI modems

3 PCI sound cards

Random CPU's from 486 up to duron 750

DigiPort 16, 16 port, port server (if that makes sense)

Kingston 16 port hub

Random pc100 and pc133 memory ranging from 32-128mb

1 32mb PCI video card

1 overflowing box of assorted wires,cords and cat5 cable

 

Thats all i can think of off the top of my head

 

If any of you plan on throwing stuff out in the future...come talk to me first

I never throw anything computer related away. I'm not going to count some of this stuff, so I'll just say several.

several HD's from 250MB to 4.6G

3 floppy drives-2 3.5 and 1 3.5 & 1 5.25 combo drive

3 desktop cases

2 tower cases-1 mid and 1 full

an accessories box that only god knows whats in there.

and a pair of G-Force 4 cards, plus a small box of extras, DVD/CD and HD, couple of 80G

 

I get alot of stuff from work at Edu discount and never use it.
