Help With Domain Registration

I have a domain registered at REGISTER.COM. The renewal for that registration seems pricey, something like $30. YAHOO offers registration from around $9.

 

Yahoo seems not to allow me to transfer my registrar. They say no registrar transfers. Is there any other solution? I use Yahoo for another domain and it is great, I don't see why I would need anything else. And it seems to be much cheaper than anything else. I actually think they have a special for $4.

 

What if I let my domain registration run out and then immediately re-register?

That seems very odd that they won't let you transfer registrars.

 

What message are you getting?

 

BTW, I don't recommend letting your domain expire, many people are waiting to squat on unloved domains and turn them into gambling halls. LOL!

or here, just be sure you retain ownership and control of the domain.

No. At this time Yahoo! does not offer registrar transfer. You can however choose to host your domain at Yahoo! by redelegating your name servers.

 

Thats rough, if you let your name expire you may run the risk of losing it. Cant say I advise allowing that to happen.

It is against ICAAN rules to prohibit transfers once the domain is out of the new registration probation.

You are correct, here is some more information from Yahoo.

Does Yahoo! Small Business offer registrar transfer? This is not a registrar transfer. Using your domain name at Yahoo! Small Business means directing your domain name servers to Yahoo! Small Business's servers, not transferring your domain registration to us. Your domain name registration remains with your current registrar and you are responsible for all ongoing domain name registration/renewal fees.

Also the offer you mentioned at yahoo is only open to new customers that purchase domains.

 

What if I let my domain registration run out and then immediately re-register?

If you allow that to happen you will not be able to transfer it and it will go into a 30 day redemption period. To get your domain back your registar will charge you the renewal fees plus a service charge. If you do not renew it before the 30 days are up then it is returned to the "pool" and anyone has a chance at it. This a bad route to try as the domain will not work during the redemption period and your chances of recovering the name are low.

 

What you can do is transfer your domain to TCH for $10.95, which includes a 1-year extension. You will receive the same benefits you would at yahoo plus the ability to Lock your Domains.

 

You also need to keep the take into account the following:

You need to start your transfer at least 10 days before your domain registration expires or the transfer may not be successful. If your domain name expires during the transfer process, we cannot complete it.

 

Also note that ICANN regulations prohibit transferring a domain name that has been registered or previously transferred within the last 60 days.

Hey everyone...

 

I also made the mistake of registering my domain with Yahoo. But if I understand what TCH Dick says here, once I'm out of the 60 day "probation" period I should be able to request the transfer through TCH right?

 

What I'm wondering as well though is how can I get started with my TCH (that I bought yesterday) while I'm waiting to (hopefully) transfer my domain?

I can not answer your first question but for number 2, when you registered your hosting account you shall have received a welcome email containing intructions on how to upload to your account. What you can do is to upload all to your new account as instructed in this email. The only thing you can not use on your account should be the webmail since as I understand your domain are not pointing to the TCH-servers (but I can be wrong on this one).

Since you write that you ordered your hosting account yesterday and depending on what email you used to register with, it might be worth to check out any spam folder you might have since these emails gets sorted wrong sometimes.
