djgizmo Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 I posted an issue with my site early this morning aourn 1:45am EST as well as a trouble ticket. I look this morning and the post has been deleted. Why? I can understand closing the post, but completely deleting it is kinda, IMO, rude. Anyways, if someone could humor me on this I'd appriciate it. What would cause me to not to connect to my particular domain? Now, basically I was working on it all day, but then all of the sudden, couldn't not access it with either with web browser or FTP. I was still able to access every website besides mine. I could ping the domain and it did respond. This has happened before, about 6 months ago, also late at night like this. As of this morning, the issue seems to be resolved, I'd just like to prevent it from happening in the future if possible. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 (edited) Since computers are machines and internet connections sometimes go haywire there is nothing you can do to prevent it from happening. It could be as simple as a routing issue to the server you are on to as bad as the server crashing. Open a help desk ticket if it happens again as the techs are the only ones that have access to your site and are the only ones that could answer if there really is a problem. You could run a tracert from your computer to the server and see if there are timeouts along the route. You could also check the server status link at the top of every forum page that would show red if there was a problem with a particular server. Edited September 27, 2004 by TCH-Bruce Quote
TCH-Dick Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 It was deleted by me, The forums are not for tech support. If you have an issue with your website or the server you need to open a support ticket. It wasnt deleted to be rude or to just brush you off, but it has been stated many many times that all server/site issues need to go to the help desk. Please see this post for more info. Forum users posting in other areas of the forums about server issues will see their threads closed or deleted. We really must use the help desk for server issues! Quote
vengavenga Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Hi Djgizmo, I'd just like to back Mike up on this - I'm 100% sure that he didn't delete your post through rudeness or anything like that ... it's just not Mike's style (or TCH's for that matter). By opening a support ticket, the "powers that be" are able to access all of your account details quickly and hopefully resolve whatever issue more or less straight away. TCH staff do answer forum posts (which most hosts don't), but going down the ticket route allows them to do they job they way they want to - ie: swiftly and efficiently! Glad the issue seems to have been resolved though Ali Quote
Don Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 I don't know the specifics of this particular post, but I should point out that users always know that they can fill out a ticket, but I believe often people will post their dilemma here as a means to let other members (as well as moderators) help them point out something missed. From a user's point of view, it has the potential of saving a nuisance ticket to the techs and could educate others who may, in the future, run into the identical problem. Quote
Head Guru Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Right, but if there is no server problem and the issue is not on our end why should we just let the post sit. Makes no sense to me. If we felt that the post could have assisted another user, then of course we would have left it alone. However, this post would not have helped anyone. Period. But hey, what do I know anyways? TCH-Rob Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 For the record, I saw the post and went to the site in question. I had no issues accessing the site. It was not an issue from where I was. I had responded that it was working on my side and closed the thread. I wanted to leave it up long enough for DJ to see it before removing it. Quote
jandafields Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 ...If your server is down please submit a ticket. Closing thread. Thanks PS: We do not delete posts... http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11528 I thought the policy was to NOT delete posts... Quote
TCH-Rob Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Policy change posting server issues thread. Forum users posting in other areas of the forums about server issues will see their threads closed or deleted. We really must use the help desk for server issues! For these posts only. We do not run through and just delete posts because, only those in reference to server issues not started by staff. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 Which Mike referenced 6 posts ahead of Rob's. Quote

djgizmo Posted September 29, 2004 Author Posted September 29, 2004 lol, I didn't mean to cause a ruckus. I was working on the site, then suddenly couldn't get to it... I submitted a ticket, but I understand that tech support isn't always going to respond instantly. I didn't know my server number (since I couldn't get to cpanel) so I couldn't post inside the correct server catagory. I posted here because I thought maybe if someone else might be having an issue around the same time they'd possibly see my post and add to it... hence, it might have actually helped someone... It's kewl though. It was aok by the time I woke up. TCH overall has been my best experience to date. From a user's standpoint, these forums are my 1st source for tech support or "how to" issues... This allows me to know if there is a current issue or to be updated on other info. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 From a user's standpoint, these forums are my 1st source for tech support or "how to" issues... This allows me to know if there is a current issue or to be updated on other info. And more often than not, if there is an actual server issue it is posted in the forums. Always if you are having issues though I would always open that ticket and see. No ruckus caused by the way. All is well. Quote
