  1. i used my psp for signal stength, its @ 85% in the laptop location
  2. more questions from me... ive googled about this adaptor, and the only problem that i read about its a connecection dropping. cureently im trying to set up a family laptop for use on the net, we have 3 laptops and my pc. i own one of each. on mine a 1 year old acer, i get my WLAN with tip top strength. on a 4 year old pavillion hp with a belkin usb adaptor its cool. my PSP even connects! but this prism 802.11g wireless adapter seems to not find a connection "no wireless networks in range" which is a lie, my router is a high power one and goes a long way, we are in this laptops case talking down a floor and about 9ft below! any ideas how i can turn it on or make sure it works, ive run msconfif checked for device conflicts, all the usual and im am stuck! i didnt know how easy it was to set up until i hit this brick wall!
  3. i hope this topic to be of interest to most. what its about is software you pay lots of cash for and their free counterparts: Open office v MS office - i find little difference! Norton etc vs Avast - i actually prefer avast the one im a bit rocky on is Photoshop vs the gimp. photoshop wins me over!
  4. the domain then you say i want my new TCH space pointed at whatever.com otherwise it would be buy hosting, buy name, contact help desk, point domain thats my opinion anyways
  5. well i think when buttons are swooshing here there and everywhere and some annoying audio player ruins your music you have on media player things get bad. then you have things such as flash not loading, timing out, high badnwidth, different versions, and ad blockers. im getting a breif to design a accessible site over the next week i wonder how i will do!
  6. we have been told "flash is evil" for making whole sites, and i can see why. i guess with accessibility at the end of the day there is no real set in stone right or wrong, your cup of tea isnt everyone elses.
  7. ive been told html and "rich" versions are onselete in the form you dont maje two websites just one and use CSS to make the place look nice
  8. ok, i may just be being stupid and noticed this for the first time ever but my laptop beeps once when i power it on, is it common for laptops and pc's to beep "on and off" sometimes beeping sometimes not. i remember 3 beeps means somthings wrong or somthing.
  9. i have to say i just ended up stabbing the food to pck it up and having a lollipop of food, if that fails i ask for a knife and fork, i just get embaraased fiddling with sticks looks like an idoiot!
  10. i've been researching today and im very suprised the Uk parliment (the government's) site fails validation!!! yet the movie site for borat, passed the CSS test!
  11. i dont normally look "outside" the ones linked via WP, incase there is any nasty code in, i dont know if im being overly security concious or not! (just my coppermine gallery went all dodgy from mod'ing it)
  12. is there a "now listening to" plugin for WP ive looked on a few of the sites for plugins through my WP Cpanel. and cant find one, places like myspace have this feature and i'd like this either that or a "current mood" plugin. just looking for things to add thanks
  13. it tooks 2 dvd's and you can only do it once, so these are so going in my "safe box" if i did not have DVD's to hand they said 12 Cd's! now thats a lot of discs! Thanks for all the advice etc, im all backed up
  14. ive found it thanks, just took a bit of looking and to be wide awake and being pointed in the right direction of course too!
  15. there does not appear to be one
  16. can't find a image disk, the hdd is partitioned (6gb) as a backup, could that be an equivalent. this is a little embarrasing, i used to be into the "tech" side of things, but just try and stick to software and design these days. im still "handy with a mouse" though
  17. part of the argument i have thought is the "DDA" in the uk (disability discrimination act) means it is lawful that you must make adjustments "within reason" to cater for people with a range of disabilities. first of all "within reason" is broad statment to me, just like the english law of if a intruder is in your home to defend life and property you may only use "reasonable force" there is no real 100% understanding of what this means. i mean visual impairment and mobility impairment are two different cups of tea so to speak. it's a political minefield trying to "please everyone" without compromising things, flash is a very grey area in terms of being accessible to all. this is a law, but only one case has been brought to court and won, that being the Sydney olympics a few years back.
  18. yeah, id of thought though a backup disc isnt the "full monty" just the "bare bones" to get your little 'puter back into this world? ill have a hunt around though for the backup cd options, thanks bruce always quick to the point advice
  19. Simple question above, i am currently researching and learning about CSS coding and W3C compliance of websites, where you use relative (?) not fixed fonts and use this that and the other to make you able to get the badge saying your W3C compliant. so the question is do you think that the designer should go out the way to make a site accessible or should the user do it.. webdesigner: takes more time, and perhaps you need to think of the audience, lets say it is a government site, all info should be to be read by anyone... end user: XP and OSX both allow screen magnification, high contrast and speech tags, so the user can use these if needed, a full accessible control panel is there. what do you think? it's just a argument/debate that really there is no right or wrong answer and one i'd like to hear other peoples opinions on from around the board
  20. ok so finally i have a new pc, when i bought it i was told "have a cdr ready" to make a backup as we dont do restore disks. how do i make one? on a slight tangent i think it is annoying that microsoft or the other PC makers wont ship a simple recovery disk with pc's yes piracy is naughty and windows is expensive blah blah blah. but you have spent £300+ (or $600+) on a new machine! Apple still give you boot discs anyways im verging onto a rant and provoking a debate, not getting my question across? any ideas how to make a backup disk Thanks in advance
  21. ive worked 2 and a half years, its a basic job there is no promotions unless you become a supervisor or manager. the lower end of the workers are seperated in wages by age, and i dont see why we should be paid less for working more than some of the older people, there is 2 in specific that skive constantly. not enough is done to protect younger workers, if this was my full time job i would not be to afford rent and taxes etc, whereas someone a few years older could, ahe discrimination sureley? thats what im getting at
  22. thanks, i will look at the full "The Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006" and have a large word with a manager
  23. no problem, hence me asking to avoid getting a telling off hopefully i have pushed the link out via myspace and many other ways word will get round and i will present to it to "those in charge" very soon things like this can make a huge difference when peoples voiced are heard!
  24. as for the age discrim law, one has come into force for older peoplem but they have left out younger people. in this new rule they say that you cant discimiante over age, but they still keep the 2 wage bands. i have a online petition (can i post the link) for people to sign who think theyre should be "eqaul pay for all regardless of age) even if you aint in the uk if i can post it, i would appriciate support, i am adressing this with my companies HR department as well as the governent! im sick of being treated as "second class" i see it the same as paying someone less cause of their race, its all still discrimination
  25. what im thinking, is id like to present this age discrim case to a union or a court or somthing, its it a valid point? like you say you can in jobs like british police work up the salary as experience is gained. but in a single levek job such as retail regardless if you are 21 or 71 you still serve the same customers, are trained to the same standards and the company expects the same of you. so in reailty is this actually age discrimination. as in the UK when you are 18 you are legally and adult, you may be arrested and sent for a custodial sentance. you may drink alchohol in licensed places. so you are adults... im sorry if i seem irate, but i reall do strongly feel towards thiis. if everything was more expensive the older i was fair enough! but it aint, £1 is still £1!!!
