That worked but can I ask why I can do why I can not do the /cpanel on both of the servers?
 -
I have a question. I have two domains that are hosted on TCH. Once is on server17 and one is located on server82. Then I type https://www.domain1.com/cpanel which is hosted on server17 I get connection refused so I have to connect to cpanel unsecure. But when I type https://www.domain2.com/cpanel which is hosted on server82 it works and it will let me connect securely. I was able to do this on both domain up until a few days ago. Is there possiable something wrong with server17 or is this a change that we need to connect another way to use secure cpanel?
 -
Well I have the attachment mod so I have to backup the attachment directory so that is why I was thinking to just tar the whole messageboard directory. But I was trying to save bandwidth of not having to keep transfering the mysql files every couple of hours.
 -
I have a phpbb forum on my site, and I want to make sure that if my site does happen to get hit and the worm does it get I want to be able to restore it as quickly as possiable. My question is that if I create a backup script to run every couple of hours that create a tar.gz file of my forum directory, and I also do a mysql dump and tar.gz that dump file would the worm be able to get to the files if I place them outside the public_html folder part of my site. Lets say I create a directory at /home/username/backups inside my account. Because I did not want to waste all the bandwidth if it was not necessary to ftp those files offsite to my house thru ftp.
 -
This is the site I was talking about http://www.tchstatus.com/ where you can see the server loads, and other information about each server.
 -
Is there any way that you can create a html only version of the tchstatus page or make the links so that they can be pressed without having flash. Because my work disables flash from coming thru the firewall, and I can not check on the server to see it's status when I am unable to connect from work.
 -
That is mainly what I do except I have since placed a few items that I needed to transfer between work and home out there with ftp but my main purpose it email hosting.
 -
With Virtual Hosting you can only host one domain. You can park more domains with them but all the domains will have to point to the same root site. You can have unlimited number of sub domains that point to different folder in the account. Like site1.domain.name point to a folder site1, and then site2.domain.name points to domain.name. So it sound like with what you are trying to do you will have to either have a very large reseller package or get a dedicated server thru tch to handled what you are trying to do. And you are right that each user could not get there own cpanel but you can not have more then 1 domain pointing to the account unless the other domains are parked as listed above.
 -
I say give both where the user can click on lets say the server name to get the more detailed information about there server, but pretty much it would be nice for a quick glance to see a green, yellow, or red button to say if the server is good to go or not.
 -
The web address is included on the website version of the article
 -
Also on TCH mysql your usrname would be something like rmulher_rmul1966@yourdomainname, for example if you registered tch domain you would use rmulher_rmul1966@tch.com as your username

Email Or No Email That Is The Question
taznumber1 replied to server5's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Because you need to use the SMTP Authenication like STS said. Because I was in the same boat as you with earthlink but I was able to send mail thru port 26 and once I checked that board and entered my authenication it work and I have never been back to earthlink email. -
I would be very intrested in helping out with this.
 -
Well I know that on TCHSTATUS.com I am unable to check on that status of the servers that I am on. Because there is no links on that page I can click on to view the current status, or any of the other resources on that site.
 -
Are you going to keep just a plain html or text version of your site? Because I know there are some companies that block flash so they are unable to only view the static images, and they are unable to click on any of the links because they are flash links. I know exactly what this is like since I am behind one of those firewalls.
 -
You can also set your tar ball creation to only include files that have changed in a given amount of time period like a month or a week. But that would be one of the possiable solutions I can think of except you manually update the given files that change when you change them and are ready for them to be public. But I think that is what the user is trying to get away from.
 -
Why don't you just set up a script that will at a given interval upload your site from your home machine to your tch account. Because you should schedule a cron job to make a tar file of your web directory at a given interval, and then upload it to your tch account. Then set up a cron job on the tch end to uncompress your tar file and replace all the contents on your tch account. I have something similiar to this except it goes the other way so that I keep a current backup of my tch site.
 -
You can try to use PHP since that is installed on the servers. It is pretty much the linux version of asp.
 -
What ftp client are you trying to use to connect to your ftp server. Because you will need to change your ftp client settings so it will only use the port that you are wanting to use. Because normally ftp servers will use random ports to transfer the files, they only use port 21 to start the connection. You will also have to force your ftp server to only use that one port and not to try to connect on the other randoms ports for transfer
 -
	It works for me
 -
Well they do have a 30 day money back guarentee. So you will just have to try it out within the 30 days to see. But I will say if it does not bring the server down to a crawl for the rest of the users, and if the server does not have a high load then I am sure they would not mind it using a little more then it's share. Because when I have done an import or an upgrade to my message board it did take a fair amount of processing usage but it never kept other sites from working, and was always done late at night when my server's loads are close to 0 and tch has never said anything to me about doing that.

To The Linux Users... Which Distro Dio You Use?
taznumber1 replied to lubox.com's topic in Operating Systems
I run gentoo on my server, and also my laptop. I really like the portage system it has, also it was very fast. I tried to use Fedora 2 Core but it does not work well on my laptop. The screen was freezing all the time, and I was not having good luck with it so I switched back to gentoo again and that is where I have stayed. -

Need Same Data Accessible From Multiple Accounts
taznumber1 replied to Ecoli's topic in Pre-Sales Questions
I would believe it would be possiable to share the information that you are looking for on two different hosting accounts. The first way would be just create a simple pages that has the news on one of the hosts. Then using cgi scripts retrieve that news pages and format it to fit the page you want it on. This would be a fairly simple thing. The second way is to inside cpanel create database accounts and assign passwords, and set the allowed host to the server name of the other server that it is on. Then using the php they would use the host information that was just created, and the server address it was created on. And example of this is the hostname is host1.totalchoicehosting.com , create a user called band1_mainhostingusername and assign then a password. Then on host 2 make your php script connect to host1.totalchoicehosting.com using band1_mainhostingusername and the assigned password. I do this one because I have a test server at my house that I use when I am working on my site and I always connect from my test site to my database hosted on TCH. The thrid way is to do RSS Feed but I am not that fimiliar with that one to help you out. -

Prevent Download Of Specific File Types
taznumber1 replied to okok's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
create a .htaccess files for that directory. Put the correct statements in that files to filter out any file with a specfic name, or a specfic file extension, and it will make it like those files do not exsist if you try to access that file directly.
