I don’t really use Guest books but I thought I would play around with the one in cPanel. I had noticed in my reading that many people were getting a lot of SPAM from bots in their Advanced GuestBook program. I did a little research and found a solution that should reduce the amount of SPAM that you will get. It will not eliminate it but should reduce it. I found a site that uses image verification as a means to prevent auto spamming. You can find it at http://www.carbonize.co.uk/Board/viewforum.php?f=10 I have run this and it is working. For those that are interested and have not heavily modified their AG, I would be happy to assist in working with you to set this up should you want to use it and have trouble installing it.

In your cPanel click on File manager, it will open a new window. Click on the folders for public_html, then invisionboard, then style_images and finaly the folder for 1. In there you will find a file called logo4.gif and one called logo4.old. Rename logo4.gif to logo4.bak and then rename logo4.old to logo4.gif. Once you have that done, have a look at your board and tell me if it made a difference.

You are getting a new name for your site? Just buy it, point it to us and open a ticket asking for it to be parked on your old one or to have it switched.

Often spammers will use dictionary type requests to search out email addresses. The see a change in WhoIS and start going from there.

Tim, If we realy needed to we could find it. We ask because it speeds the process up for us. Do we need it for a billing issue? Not always, sometimes an issue that starts off in one area may bleed into another. For that reason we like to see it. Do you "have" to put it in there? No, but you do need something in there, if it comes down to it we will ask. Like I said though, it is faster in the long run to provide it.
