From the manual, here are instructions for doing backup/restore of your MySQL database using phpMyAdmin.

I don't use MT anymore, but I recall an "Export" function that dumps all of your entries into a text(?) file. I imagine if you exported your entries from MT in this way, you could import them back in if you had to.

For you compulsive posters out there, Performancing has a handy little extension that makes it really easy to post to your WordPress, Moveable Type, or Blogger blog from within Firefox without having to actually log in to your admin panel. Just in case somebody doesn't take the time to read the complete instructions: Except your wp-content folder (which holds your themes, plugins, and other custom content), wp-config.php, wp-images folder, wp-includes/languages folder if you are using other languages, and your .htaccess if you have custom rules.

I upgraded to RC1 a few weeks ago and nothing broke. A few things that were supposed to work didn't, but since they didn't even exist in previous versions I wasn't too worried about it. Will probably upgrade to the stable release tonight.

In my log file I have a few lines that look like this, and it happens several times per month: 69.50.175.170 - - [02/Dec/2005:02:19:10 -0700] "GET /mt/mt-comments.cgi?__mode=handle_sign_in&static=1&entry_id=190&logout=1 HTTP/1.1" 404 1827 "http://www.timothyandheather.com/" "Ru.Idea Company" It looks like they're trying to get to an old Moveable Type page that isn't there, and so they get the 404. I don't quite get what they're linking to me from. There's nothing on their main page linking to me, and nothing I could find within. Anybody know what this Ru.Idea Company is? I googled around but all I came up with was other peoples' statistics. It's not a huge issue, just one of those nagging issues I haven't gotten around to figuring out.

I'm building a site and I don't care if IE users can see it properly (for now, maybe), but I'd like to tell them that they aren't going to see it properly unless they switch to a more compliant browser. Is there some kind of script I can put in my headers that will allow me to notify the user that he should switch from IE, and then if he wants, let him continue on to the site?

I'm a big fan of Chipmark, a replacement for Bookmarks. Your bookmarks are stored on a central server. Install the extension for Firefox so you get to them just like bookmarks, and if you're on a different computer you can get to your bookmarks at chipmark.com. Handy, but they haven't finished a FF1.5-compatible version yet.

I host lots of different movies of different file types, wmv among them. As long as you have enough space you should be able to host whatever you want. (Provided it's legal and within the TOS, of course.) How are you trying to upload it? FTP client? File manager? Other?

I don't have /sqmail anymore. Did on my old server, but not on the new. Should probably stick with /webmail.
