I just made my 200th post and got bumped up from 'Distant Family' to 'Immediate Family'. Woo hoo. I've been trudging through that Distant Family thing for months now. Is there anything higher or is this the end of the road?

I put my permalink rewrite rules in the .htaccess in my /public_html/wp directory, not in /public_html. Don't really know what's right or wrong, just what works for me.

What Bruce told you is about it. Define the structure and hit the Update button. If WP can write to your .htaccess it will, if not it will tell you so and you will have to copy and paste. Are you saying you saw something like this, and you copied that into your .htaccess and uploaded it to your site? Perhaps you can post the contents of your .htaccess and we can figure out where that /index.php/ is coming from. Cause that's weird.

I have a MySQL database on my abc.com domain and wish to have PHP pages on my 123.com, 456.com, and 789.com domains access information in the abc.com database. (It's for a central calendar system with different front pages depending which site you're on.) Is there anything wrong with doing that as long as I own all the domains? And if it's ok, how do I do it? Or if anybody can point me in the general direction that'd be cool too. Thanks. -Tim

Started with MT, ended up with WP. Think the "out of the box" setup and maintenance is easier and makes more sense. Content is dynamic using PHP and mySQL, which is nice. And it's all still 100% free. Think I jumped ship when MT started charging for certain licenses and knowledge base access. But like everybody else said, just try them out. If you don't like one, it's very easy to export your stuff to the other.

I had a pretty irritating problem with the help desk earlier and felt like I was getting nowhere. Once it landed on Bill's radar the problem was taken care of within an hour or two. Just wanted to publicly say thanks for being a very responsive, hands-on kind of GM. It's nice to see people who take pride in their work. -Tim

Those prices are over two years old. Check out the front page. And as far as signatures go, I think if you're a member you're allowed to post your personal site in your signature. I do anyway. Probably cuts down on non-family members cruising through and posting crap just to get their website out there.

As a user of the Palm Treo 650 I'm happy to see Palm try a different OS on their phones. The Palm of today is not the Palm we all fell in love with years ago. The software found on the Treo 600 and 650 is plagued with so many bugs it's not even funny, and trying to get help when the phone craps out is next to impossible. I'm no fan of Uncle Bill, but whatever he comes up with can't run any worse.

I'm a sucker for folders, so I just redirect sitename.com to sitname.com/wp. Good just in case I ever want to remove WP, I don't have all kinds of junk cluttering my public_html folder.

I went from MT 3.12(ish) to WP 1.5.something. Took ten minutes. Back everything up though, just in case.

I've been using Thunderbird ever since I made the switch to Linux, but I like Outlook better.

Just quit my job as a field engineer working on building automation systems to start my own design and project management firm specializing in surveillance and access control systems.

I haven't totally destroyed mine yet, but I'm trying: - spilled Guinness on the keyboard (thankfully not the whole pint, what a waste of Guinness). Recovered, but very tough to clean. - cat spilled water when I wasn't around and the laptop was on. Internal wireless card hasn't worked since. - got a PCMCIA wireless card and upon inserting it promptly bent one of the pins deep inside the slot so it touches another pin. Now anytime I insert a card in the slot the laptop reboots. - a pretty solid static electricity shock has rendered the touchpad useless. - dropped it once, but no apparent damage from that. Two years and my Dell is still purring.

Think this is it. In your CSS file, #container has a width of 706px. Within that, you have #left with 155px, #center with 400px, and #right with 155px. 155 + 400 + 155 = 710. Just a little too wide for the container. Try making the container bigger, or one of your columns smaller.

I see in my awstats that a bunch of traffic is coming from "www.somemadeupforum.com/forum/showthread.php", but if I click on that link it tells me that I didn't specify a thread. I'm curious to know who's out there talking about me, and they've pushed a decent chunk of traffic my way. Is there a way to see in some logfile somewhere what thread this traffic is coming from? Just curious.

Welcome to the forums Chris. I've not seen an MT issue yet that couldn't be solved by somebody here in the TCH forums. This place is loaded with friendly people who are happy to help, like some kind of functional family or something. And the hosting is very reliable as well, with some of the best tech support I've ever had to deal with. For $4 a month, you won't find a better deal.

A few friends and I are doing a Ronald McDonald House fun run and then we're going to deep fry a turkey. Cookouts are great, but fryouts are even better.

I liked the Spongebob movie better than Episode II. Tonight I opted for "Crash" rather than Episode III. Pretty good movie.
