I just spent some time looking at Xtreme movies - WOW! It looks like a great program. I could spend hours playing around with these programs. Lorraine had just mentioned the Xara name in her forum the other day - I wasn't familiar with the company. Thanks for the link for the one day sale.

Wish I had waited also! I just bought Xara 3D 2 days ago. Gail

As far as Coppermine vs. Gallery, I much prefer Coppermine. I have done a few updates to each and I always find Gallery a pain to update; in fact, because I only have a few photos in Gallery for demonstration purpose, (I am talking about Gallery 2 - Gallery 1 is pretty much fading into the night I think), I end up installing the new version and starting over. I can never follow their update instructions nor can a friend of mine who understands php scripts much more than I do. As a rule, I find Coppermine easier to update. Just something to keep in mind as you will find it necessary to update either script from time to time. Gail

Hi Lorraine and Don, I am going to say thank you to both of you - thank you to Lorraine for asking the question and thank you to Don for the explanation. I do a backup of the Home Directory and the MySQL databases and I know I can restore them myself. I also know the techs have to restore the Full Backup. I was never sure what the difference was (in content) between the two - you have helped me to have a better understanding now Don. Thanks. Gail

Hi Paul, I am sorry to hear of the loss of your father. It is always difficult to lose a family member but particularly a parent. My best to you and your family during the days and weeks ahead. Gail

Hi Betty, Glad I could be of help. You may have already seen this but here is a link to the Online Manual for SMF which you may also find helpful. Gail

Hi Betty, Click on 'Profile' at the top of the SMF forum. Then click on 'Look and Layout Preferences' - now look at the list under Time Offset - make sure the box 'Return to topics after posting by default' is ticked. This seems to work for me - the 'Return to this topic' under Additional Options always seems to be ticked. Hope this is helpful. Gail

Hi Lorraine, Everything transferred to the new Coppermine - no problems. I have just done a bit of editing again to the .css file. Good news - you can now sort the order of the photos in an album which was not a feature of the 1.3.x versions and earlier. Thomas - it looks like they left the same instructions for upgrading from version 1.3.x to 1.4.x as they previously had (upgrading from 1.3.4 to 1.3.5 etc). However, there were a couple of things different this time but I was able to figure it out. I must say - I really like the file version checker that they have added. When I first did the upgrade, I was missing 4 mandatory files (why I am not sure?). I simply uploaded these 4 files again and all is well. It also pointed out the themes still had permissions set at 777 and this was not necessary so I changed them. There were a couple of other things as well that I don't recall now. Anyway, the file version checker is very handy - I now am updated to the stable version of 1.4.8 with no mandatory files missing, no older version files and it lists a couple of other things - quite a useful feature. Gail

Never mind - I got the blessed script updated to 1.4.8. I was having a lot of problems uploading the folders to the server - I got fed up with the FTP program I was using and downloaded another one - I did have better luck with it. When I got everything updated - I had to download the new version of the theme I was using (Inkpot) and then upload it to the server. Now things seem to be working. The one confusing thing I found - the instructions said to not overwrite the anycontent.php file which I didn't. However, when I did the version check of all the files, it said this particular file was an older version and should be upgraded. I finally did overwrite the original file (I had backed it up - was using the stable 1.3.5. version of Coppermine) and I think everything is still working okay. Wish they would get together with their instructions for us old fogies. I will check out the 1.4.8 version more tomorrow to see the new features. I do want to edit the Inkpot theme again - at least so I can read the fonts! I have the changes on my computer that I made before so it shouldn't take too long. Gail

Diet Coke for me please - not that the 'diet' part helps!

I loved it! I am retired but I sure don't have that much fun.

Thanks JTD. I shall do that when I get a chance. I actually have downloaded and installed Lazarus on my computer (XAMPP) but I haven't had much time to look at it. I have been thinking of switching for awhile - sadly, I had spent a fair bit of time editing one of the themes for Viper so it is like the rest of my site. That is one reason I hate to switch but I know sooner or later I will have to. I do realize the chap who was working on the Viper project has dropped it. It would be nice if the Viper entries could be imported into Lazarus. Are you out there Carbonize?
-
Thank you Don for your response. I am thankful that Viper has a moderated mode - at least the spam doesn't reach my Guestbook. Gail
-
Hi All, Hope you don't mind if I ask a question in this thread. I use the Viper Guestbook - moderated mode. Is there a big difference between Viper and the Lazarus Guestbook? Don - I think perhaps you have used both. I do get spam although certainly not a lot compared to the amount some people get. It is just a nuisance to reject the few entries each day. Also, would I be able to copy the entries in Viper to Lazarus? I have been curious about Viper vs. Lazarus for a long time. I also agree banning IP addresses doesn't work. Thanks kindly. Gail

As I understand it, Fantastico's 'wonderful scripts' are frequently NOT the current versions. You are better to go directly to the individual web site to get the script you want - download and install the script yourself. This way you are sure of having the current version and thus the most current security fix for that particular script. I think this is why TCH thus far has refrained from offering Fantastico in cPanel. Someone please correct me if I am wrong in this understanding. Gail

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays all. I would also like to wish a Happy Hanuka to all our Jewish friends. I hope 2006 brings to each Forum member - good health, peace, and happiness. Gail

Go Montreal Canadians - they have been my team since the days of Rocket Richard and company. Now I am showing my age. These past years - I actually follow our local Ontario Hockey League team (which has sent more players to the NHL than any other team) more than I do the NHL. The game does seem to be improved so far this year but I would still like to see fewer teams. I also hope the Refs continue to call the penalties and don't go back to their old ways - allowing all the clutching and grabbing. Maybe now the less skilled players will get weeded out. Gail

Hi, I use IE 6. I see what you mean about the shifting. There are perhaps 2 or 3 pages that are fine (I should have taken more notice) and then there are pages that shift to the left. Then when I click on the next link after the first page that has shifted - the page will shift to the right (where the Home Page position was) and then immediately shift again to the left. The shift is quite noticeable. My screen resolution is 1024 by 768. Sorry I have no solutions but thought I would add my observations. Gail

Hi David, Thanks very much for your explanation. I didn't think about the 2 files (the .htaccess and the fixfiles.php) until this afternoon and I really wouldn't have known to just run the script again anyway. As I said, I just kept thinking I was doing something wrong which wouldn't be the first time (and I'm sure it won't be the last). I can add the files and run the fixfiles.php script again. No harm done and I have gained a bit more knowledge hopefully. Thanks again for your time. By the way, I hope you are enjoying that new computer. Gail

Hi All, First, thank you Thomas for these instructions. They were very helpful - well, sort of. Let me explain. I have 3 Coppermine Galleries - one on a local server that I use when I edit themes, and two on different domain names hosted by TCH. I decided to update the small gallery on gailplayground.com first. I spent hours the past two days trying to update Coppermine from version 1.3.3. to 1.3.5. but I was getting nowhere. I just kept getting error messages. I read and re-read the instructions over and over again and kept thinking I must be doing something wrong. This afternoon, I decided to try and update the gallery on my local server - once I got the files from the new version copied to my .htdocs folder - the update took seconds. I then got brave and decided to try and update the Coppermine Gallery on my main web site. Again, after uploading the files via my FTP program, the update was very quick. While I was waiting for files to upload, it finally came to me why I perhaps could not get the one Coppermine Gallery to update. I had used TCH David's script that he wrote a few months ago - the purpose is to change the ownership of the files from 'nobody' to the User ID. After updating my main Coppermine Gallery, I went back to the Coppermine that would not update - I removed the 2 files that were part of David's fix and then held my breath. This time, the update was successful and very quick just like the other 2 updates. I only wish I had thought of this solution much earlier. I thought I would post this here in case there is someone else who perhaps is having the same problem. Gail

Hi Thomas, That would be great and very much appreciated. I have upgraded Coppermine once but I am never quite sure if I fully understand the instructions. Gail

Hi David, I just checked the Help Desk tickets. The above was the error message I got both times I tried to run the script. As I said, the first time - staff at the Help Desk did something? and then the fixfiles.php worked fine. After this, when I was having the problems with the Family Album, I decided at one point to run the Coppermine install.php file again. I again received the same error message when I tried to run the fixfiles.php - I didn't want to ask the Help Desk to fix things a second time. I think this all occurred on Sept. 13 as it was that evening when I submitted the first ticket. Gail

Hi David, It worked! Now, if only I had followed through more yesterday - instead of just renaming the album in Coppermine. When I saw the above quote, as I said, I thought it must have something to do with the apostrophe. I should have started fresh - delete the photos and album in not only Coppermine but also delete the directories using the FTP program. It would have saved me a lot of time and fewer tickets to the Help Desk. By the way, I couldn't get your fixfiles.php to work on this server (92) either. I was getting error messages that I sent to the Help Desk. The help desk had to do something so it would work (I don't know what action they took). When I decided to start over at one point in this process, the fixfiles.php wouldn't work again so I just left it. I have plenty of space left on this Domain Name, so I am not particularly worried about 'ownership' on this Coppermine installation. Thanks again for your help. Gail

Hi David, Thanks for your quick reply. I thought of that yesterday (the apostrophe) - I did rename the album in Coppermine to My Family but I can't remember if I changed it via FTP or in cPanel's File Manager. Anyway, it did not work. Would it help if I started over with that album - delete the files in the album and then delete the album. I can then change the name to My Family - add the directory via FTP and upload the pics again. Then before I do the 'Batch Add' method, I can create a new album in Coppermine - My Family. Thanks. Gail
