Katie, If you are still around, may I say that you are a quite articulate young lady. Brava! For 14, your grammar is immaculate. Just had to say that. Hope to see you back here soon! Lianna

Right on the nose. It's a matter of risk acceptance, IMO. If I were running an online store wanting a ton of sales from all over, then I would most certainly go with purchasing my own cert. On the other hand, if you are in communique with the customer before hand, such as payment via internet for services rendered instead of a product per se, then it's not worth the $ for the cert. In the .htaccess file that is in your public_html directory add this one line: Options -Indexes If there is no .htaccess file there, just create a file with that name and place it in your public_html directory. To make this effect global, put the line in the .htaccess file in the root of your account.

Well, I have to say this. Your space at TCH is intended for hosting web pages, not as an FTP server. That's really what this is sounding like. The answer has been given to you, it just isn't what you've wanted to hear. You can create FTP users in the manner available through cpanel. Your public_html directory is designed, as was cPanel, to provide you with web page hosting capability. I've followed your threads here and must say that I am now quite curious as to what the intention is for these FTP users. Please refer to the Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy before you procede with this to ensure that you are not heading towards a violation. Understand that I am not accusing you of anything. I just want you to reread the TOS and AUP for your own peace of mind. I can see legitimate reasons for needing and wanting FTP space for certain users. However, your plan's purpose is hosting web pages. Am I missing something? I'd really like to help, but I'm not sure what the big deal is. I've asked you to provide me step-by-steps to show me what it is that you are seeing so that I can try to help you eliminate your problem.

Love the fishing tale! And it's always good to know that little boys all over the world are absconding with their parents' laptops! I get very little time on mine because of NickJr.com! Lianna

George, I think what you are looking for is the Index Manager in cPanel instead of Web Protect. The Index Manager will allow you to turn off and on the directory listing feature for a directory that does not have an index.htm(l) file. There is no way to apply the WebProtect or Index Manager features to multiple directories at once. You are correct that this would be a suggestion made to the cPanel producers, not TCH. Hope that helps. Lianna

I'm by no means an htaccess guru, but seems like that could be an answer??? Anybody? Lianna

Oak pollen I could play through! We're under terrible thunderstorms here all day! YUK. No golf. Not much progress on real work either though. Lianna -
http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...t=1110&hl=limit Closed topic, but so that you can read the position of TCH in its determination to provide the best all around services that it can as well as some of the reactions of the family.

I Want Ftp Dirs, Not Under /public_html
Lianna replied to jdmatl's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
How are the dirs available for viewing? Turn off indexing. I don't think I'm getting why there is an issue. Can you give me a step-by-step to show me what you are seeing? Lianna -
Neither Neomail or Horde have the function for collecting additional pop3 account mail. Squirrelmail can and there are some here that have installed it. As I recall, there were some concerns with Squirrelmail...but I don't recall well enough to know what they are! Click the Search link atop any forum page and search for Squirrelmail. You may need to open your search time range to the last several months or even go to the begining. Lianna

ditto, tastewar! Schmuck....yep, YOU picked it! By no means would I judge though. I know what it feels like some days. Look at my originality: lstover. (BORING) As to your contact info, KW showed that the data is indeed listed (although we don't know what WhoIs he used for obtaining it). You registration is complete, no need to worry about that. Are you still not seeing the contact information through those WhoIs query pages you mentioned? Lianna -
Webmail Using Ssl, But Still Using Port 2096
Lianna replied to jdmatl's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Of course no sooner do I unpin the poll, then folks start talking about this again. You can see the comments and results of the poll here. (50% ok the way it is, 40% would like port changed/made available) Those results and the total voting numbers certainly wouldn't substantiate a change. Total of 20 people (and 1 was me) voted. 10 against, 8 for changing ports. A work around like what was suggested by Jim is probably the best solution here. Lianna -
I'm confused. Is your question in regards specifically to resellers and limiting their resold accounts? If so, I'll ask you to please make those questions through the Reseller forums here...just keeps it easy for the ones reading and replying. (I'll move this topic to Reseller Support if indeed that's the case. To my knowledge there is no way to limit the number of emails allowed to be sent by a reseller client account. I believe this is a server level function, towit, everyone on the server would be subjected. Of course spamming is always of concern to a hosting company. And TCH is no different, except that TCH is VERY vocal about the consequences of spamming from their servers and ready to suspend/terminate any account found doing so. You can refer to this post for the Policy. Lianna

Oh, don't give me that, HG! You have one too!

schmuck, Where did you go (can you provide a link) to the WhoIs that you used? Try this one. I like it a ton and it usually queries TWO servers, not just one. Lianna -
Don't know about disabling online email if too many failed attempts. Will have to look into it. As to the login failure, there are numerous posts here in the forums dealing with this. First, are you entering the entire address as username? For all email address accounts created (except the main account), you must use the entire address: yourname@****** Can you give me some more info? Lianna

Sure, inside cPanel look for "Web Protect" That will allow you to assign usernames and passwords to specific directories within your space. Lianna

Oh, Click the link that I just provided. That will take you to the Pinned Topic in this forum category. That's where you learned what the contest itself was about and how to go about creating a submission, etc. The same link as provided right here: 11:59 PM (GMT-6) April 17, 2003 The Calendar can be seen by clicking the "Calendar" link on top of this forum, right next to "Help", "Search", and "Members". Or by following this link: Calendar Lianna

Freddy, We don't offer support for HTML/language coding issues or third-party scripts/apps. This forum is full of generous and well experienced users though and you should feel free to solicit help from here. (Of course understand if you don't get the responses you're looking for.) I have never played with the chat scripts provided here through cpanel except to install them just earlier this morning. I had read your post and wondered if the darker look of the Java chat would fit better with your site. I do not know if the chat pages are then configurable from their current installation directories....don't even know where that is without having to go look. My next advice to you is to check out some of the free scripts and apps that you can get from online at places like javascriptkit.com. At one time, I had searched for an easily installable chat client for a customer of mine and found several that worked fairly well. If you would like to have a lot of functionality with little headache, you may even consider using a hosted chat. Folks like Bravenet.com and ParaChat are a couple that I found off the top of a Google search. Lianna
