Create A Db Through Phpmyadmin
abinidi replied to cajunman4life's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
This makes sense. Thanks for that explanation. So does hitting the database count against bandwith? I'm not really sure how this functions, so mabye this isn't really an issue of bandwith. -

You're welcome! Glad I could be helpful. -
Maybe this is really simple and I'm just missing something, but how do you unzip it once it is on the server?
-
Thanks DWD for the info. I didn't even ask the question, but am interested by the response...

Welcome to the fourms, and welcome to TCH! I'm sure you will be happy here!

Sorry I don't know the answer, but welcome to the forums. I'm sure somebody around here will be able to help.

That may be exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks!

Create A Db Through Phpmyadmin

I don't know why it does that. I had this question last week, so I submitted a question to the help desk. They told me that I have to create databases using the "My SQL Databases" link. Once the database has been created, and users have been added to it, you can administer it in phpMyAdmin. I know, it seems weird. But it worked for me. EDIT: "users" should be singular. You only have to add one user, but you can add more if needed. -
I don't disagree with you. Just because I would like to choose my own username does not mean that I would automatically choose a bad one. However, with two of my accounts my username is a variation of my domain name. That is worse than if I could choose it myself. For another of my accounts the username is so random I can't ever remember it, so I have it written down someplace. I think a happy medium would be choosing your own username and password, with protections in place to help you not choose bad ones. This isn't a complaint. Only an observation.

I'm looking for an FTP program that works like Dreamweaver's site manager. I want a program that will compare the files on my machine with the ones on the server and update whichever are newer. I had hoped that the site manager in Nvu would do it, but it seems to only be an FTP interface. I guess if Dreamweaver has what I want I might have to get it, but I'd rather use an open source (read: free) solution, if available. If you have any suggestions, let me know.

YAY for you and your family!!!! That is a great birthday present, I'll bet!! Well, congrats!!

And to clarify (I just learned this! Wow! I get to share!!) the "databasename" that Thomas talked about is a database that you specifically create for this application, following the instructions given in the tutorial link he added to this thread. Don't just type in "databasename" because it won't work. You have to create a database first and then replace "databasename" with the name of the database you created.

Yes, well, I happen to agree that I wish usernames could be changed. But oh well. Good luck choosing a password.
-
I'm not sure about this, but it seems to me like when I changed my password, there was one generic error (the dictionary words one you are encountering) that you will see even if there is a different problem. It seems like in my case I was trying to use a variant of my domain name in my password or something and it wouldn't allow it. I ended up using a multi-word phrase (with spaces) and it liked that. Makes for a longer password, but that is more secure anyway.

Thanks, Patricia. I installed dragonfly on my server. I don't see the modules for blogs/calendar/chat, but keep looking at thier support site before I give up! Thanks for a good suggestion. It looks promising!

Thanks. I added a comment to that thread, because the recent installation of Drupal has a file in a different folder. I guess next time I ought to SEARCH the forums before I ask a question...
-
Don, Thanks for the instructions. I actually figured out how to do it myself, before finding this thread. That would have been nice. However, you might want to update your instructions for the newest Drupal release. This step: Has changed. It should now read: >navigate to the following folder: /sites/default select config.php, select edit Hope that helps the next Drupal installer... Paul P.

Cool. Thanks. I won't worry about it, then.
-
Oh. Ok. Thanks. So for a personal site (low traffic) I probably don't need to worry about FTP security?
-
I know that regular FTP connections aren't safe because they send your username and password unencrypted over the internet. I decided to download Core FTP, and I'm wondering what I should do to ensure that my password information is secure. Do I check SSL boxes? Do I need to change the settings on my TCH server? What is the most secure way to access my site via FTP?

out ---- 100th post in the forums! Now I've moved up to "distant family" instead of "family friend"!!!!!!!! But isn't a family friend closer than "distant family"? Maybe not... at least "distant family" is a blood-relation...
