  1. I have the full :fail: no such address here It STILL isn't working and is making my client very aggrevated~! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So I've always wondered this: what is it with the text after the :fail: ? Should it be included or shouldn't it? Does it have to be exact? Is it sent as part of the message back to the sender?
  2. What is the difference between a full backup and a home backup?
  3. THAT is the best piece of advice I've heard in days!! Thanks a lot for your help! Next time will be *MUCH* smoother with this information
  4. These are great!! Thanks!
  5. Well, I can't figure out what site I was at, or where I read it, but I guess what I needed to do was find the file that was specific for the upgrade from 2.0.14. to 2.0.15. I did that, and uploaded the files that I was instructed to, but then the database structure wasn't updated properly. The directions told me I had to go to the /install/ folder and run a file there, but there was no /install/ folder, and one hadn't been provided in the 2.0.14_to_2.0.15 upgrade file. At this point, my database structure was 2.0.14, but my website was set for 2.0.15. Since I didn't know how to convert my database to .15, I just quit, uninstalled everything and started over. I have no idea what I did wrong, but then again, I can't even figure out what I DID...

    Phpbb

Thanks, Bruce. That is a handy mod, and it is helpful, however it doesn't do exactly what I was wanting. I wanted to change the Registration Agreement Terms -- the text that users see and have to click "I agree" before they can create an account on the system. I thought that was a good place to put my AUP, so users would be required to see it before they joined the forum. I figured out how to do it, though. In phpBB 2.0.15, you go to the following file: forumname/language/lang_english/lang_main.php and modify line 634. You can add whatever text you want there. You can even use HTML formatting. However, users should remember that there are certain reserved characters (like apostrophe) that will cause the file to break if they aren't escaped! For example, if you want to put the phrase Don't do that in your Registration Agreement, then you would need to write add it like this: >Don\'t do that If you are going to mess with this file, make a backup before you begin, so if you break it, you can fix it easily. Hope this info helps somebody else along the way. -Paul

    Phpbb

I'm using phpBB 2.0.15 (I got it installed, finally), and I have a question. I want to make a page that works like an Acceptible Use Policy page that users must agree to before they can create an account. Does anybody know of a phpBB hack or setting that would allow me to do this?
  10. I tried to upgrade my installation today, and have had nothing but trouble. I followed the update instructions exactly, and it broke my board! (Not too big of a deal, since it was a board I only created yesterday). I had installed .14 from my cPanel, but decided to upgrade to .15 so the annoying message at the bottom of the admin panel would go away. I don't have the error message because I went ahead and just deleted the whole forum and am reinstalling from scratch. But now it isn't playing nicely with my subdomain. Grrr... Oh well. At least it is a forum that it was okay to break.

  13. When you park a domain, it is like two domains sharing the same site. I have a domain parked on my main domain, and it works like this: If users hit mymaindomain.com (this is not the real address), they see the index file in the public_html folder. If users hit myparkeddomain.com (also not the real address), they also see the index file in the public_html folder. Users can go to mymaindomain.com/folder, and they will see the contents of the folder that exists in public_html/folder. If users go to myparkeddomain.com/folder, the will also see the contents of the folder that exists in the public_html/folder BUT the address bar will show mymaindomain.com/folder. With a parked domain, you can use both domains for email addresses. (However I'm not sure what happens if you have two accounts with the same name under the different domain names (e.g. admin@mymaindomain.com and admin@myparkeddomain.com). I'm not sure if the system treats them as the same mailbox or not.) As far as I understand it, that is how domain parking works. It is pretty neat.

  15. Jason, Did you install Net2FTP on your own server, or do you use the one on their site? & What are the benefits of a web-based FTP client? Is it as secure as a desktop FTP client? -Paul
  16. Welcome, Pat. Somebody from these forums recently pointed me to dragonflycms. It was pretty easy to install and get running. Maybe you'd want to check that one out as well. dragonflycms.com

  18. How safe is it to leave the albums/subdirectories at 777? Do we risk having our pictures hacked? Betty1, do you know how to change file permissions? If you don't (I just learned what this 644 / 755 / 777 etc. stuff is about two weeks ago), then post back to the forum and we'll explain it in detail.
  19. I ended up doing some of both; I really wanted to edit the files online, so I changed the theme folder (and individual theme folders) to 777, and changed all the files in the individual theme folders to 666. I was able to edit the files in the WordPress theme editor, but it was REALLY slow. Then I realized that I had basically the exact same functionality in the File Manager in cPanel. I navigated to the page that I wanted to edit, and clicked "edit this page." I was able to edit it online without having to download/reupload it, and I don't have to change the file security settings to do so. This was a perfect solution for me. I thought I'd share in case it helps somebody else later. -Paul
  20. Thanks guys. That's what I needed to know.
  21. I installed WordPress yesterday, and I really like it (so far). I am wondering about one thing: when I go to the theme editor in WP, I see the .php file for the theme I want to edit, along with the message, "If this file was writable you could edit it." What file settings do I have to make in order to edit these files in WordPress? I really, really, really don't want to break anything, as I've got it working almost perfectly (including importing all my Blogger comments, and categorizing all 111 blog entries!!) Thanks for your help.
  22. What is the difference between a temporary vs. a permanent redirect? Why does it matter which one I choose? I'm sure there is a logical reason. I just don't know it!

  24. Oh. Thanks. Just a little slow on the uptake, I guess! I see the index file now too, so let us know if you are still having problems!!
  25. So does this mean it is safe to reenable javascript and allow "safe" sites to install files?
