Have you tried in the ftp program setup remote dir = public_html/subdirectory this should put the files in the subdomain

I agree with you. You could also mention this great fourm under support, as it allows you to receive help from other customers as well as TCH. You mention no SSH to untar files, if you look under the help site you will see a SSH Alternative, a PHP shell that may do what you want. Its worth looking at. And welcome to the family!
