Thomas, another option that folks have not mentioned: Post a statement similar to one I use for our reference library cd: This way your visitor is told how to maximize their browser (works in IE and Firefox) but you are not hijacking their settings. -Samantha

Found a second script, a PHP script. But it seems both have become useless! Take a look at this post from another discussion board.... Well, I guess the popup box will have to do unless someone else has a better suggestion! -Samantha
-
Ok. Using Lisa's search criteria (I had been looking for password login, and other variations) I did come across this script, but can't seem to get it to access our "web protect" passworded directory. Is the script now defunct due to newer technology, or am I just missing something in the implementation? -Samantha

Why thank you both for finding and engraving the pen. How lovely. I have to say that it gave me quite a chuckle to see the pen had traveled so far! As it turns out, I was remembering wrong earlier today. I had done a login box for a password protected page, but it was not for the web protect feature. It was part of another script before I found web protect in cpanel. I like the more secure option of the cpanel web protection, but have been asked to provide a login box without a popup. Is that possible? -Samantha
-
If you set up a web protect subdirectory in cpanel and link to a page in that subdirectory, a login box will appear. Some people get it, some don't depending on their browser settings. Ok.. Having a brain spasm..... How to put a login box directly into a webpage that takes you to the protected sub so the popup is not needed. Have done it once, on a site I worked on a while back but can not for the life of me remember how now..... And if anyone finds my purple pen, let me know...I left that somewhere too. Can't remember where. -Samantha

Bill, Sorry for your loss. My father passed this October from Lung Cancer too. Your father was correct. Family comes to us in many ways. The service TCH provides is top notch, but when you add in the forum staffed with caring, interested moderators, that just reinforces the FAMILY feeling around here. Hope you folks enjoy the dinner. I'll be there in spirit. -Samantha

Spamers and others have a stack of standard email address beginnings that they use and it has nothing to do with anyone having your specific address. They shotgun hoping to find someone with a live address. Don't click REMOVE ME, etc from emails. If you have not signed up at that location, then they don't know it's live until you click to remove. Once they know it's a confirmed address, it will be sold and your mailbox will be FLOODED. WELCOME! -Samantha

Yes, the proper 404 page appears for both sites. That's not the issue. The ECHO of the requested page is not appearing on Lambert's See the attached image. Also the email that is sent from samisite contains the data on which page is not found, but the lambert email is blank. Do what? I made a 404 page, called it 404.shtml, placed it into my main directory and that's it. The coding I used for the echo is in my post that started this thread. Anyone have any alternatives on how to get the information to show on which page was requested? Do I need to change permissions, or change the coding I am using to achieve more consistent results for lambert? Maybe it's a server setting that needs to be looked at, do you think since server 23 and 26 seem to be fine and 17 and 29 are not producing consistent results? Should we open a ticket for TCH to check out their side? I know I can look through the AWSTATS on the 404 errors, but find the email is a very fast acknowledgement of someone on the site and can fix a bad link immediately if I know what is not working properly. -Samantha
-
Nope. Server 26 (samisite) and 29 (lambert) Both pages were working exactly as planned....now only the samisite page works, yet they are coded the same. VERY STRANGE. -Samantha

I have two basically identically coded 404 pages on two different sites hosted here on TCH. Both should report the page that could not be found and the refering page too when someone clicks the link to report. Both are named 404.shtml and both WERE working fine. But now the Lambert 404 is not and it is driving me crazy by being silent! You can see them by trying these badlinks: http://www.samisite.com/badlink.htm (working) http://www.lambertusa.com/badlink.htm (not working) Note that the page requested is supposed to show the requested page. Both have the code: but only samisite actually does it! Both have the code in the form but only samisite sends the info when the link is clicked. Lambert's page will send an email that just says: So, if they are identical coding (other than color, images and sound) and they were both working fine until this week, and there were no changes implemented, WHY?????? Please advise. -Samantha

Thank you TCH for the consistency of the servers, the rapid assistance when necessary and the unbelievably generous folks that monitor the boards. The time given, uplifting spirit and the general leg-up to family members makes this place special. Rock Sign Happy holidays to all. -Samantha

Lots to be thankful for this year... but mainly that everyone in my family and workplace made it through all the hurricanes with minimal problems and that the storms finally stopped! -Samantha

No stretch and fit. The tables in CSB are PIXEL set only, no percentage. If you visit any Trellix or CSB built site with text and images you will see tables being used which preset the size of the text area. Inserting code into the table does not make the table adjust. You can center the table (as I do on my home page) but that's it. As I mention at the bottom of my review page, I think its possible we are on the last generation of CSB. Globalscape has made no mention of a beta for version 5, but they also haven't announced the product is dead either... When I last looked at the product, it did not have the support that CSB offered. Don't know if that changed. If so, you might consider that one. The documentation does not say if it supports framed and non-framed sites like CSB does, but on the bright side, it allows overlapping images & text which CSB does not. (A prepared image with text on it can be used in CSB for same result but is not as fast) My tutorial site was not originally built to support a product. It was my testing ground. When I needed to try something new and wanted to find out how to do it, I used my personal site to test/learn on. Then once I got it working correctly I took the finished product over to the business site I was working on. Eventually I had all these tests on my personal site and decided to add a few instructions so others could learn from my trial and error. Yes I like the product, but don't love the product. It has quirks but use it despite them because of the ease of the product. I prefer WordPerfect over Word (WP is still the only one that can truly reveal hidden codes to allow you to find that elusive style code that is driving you crazy and when it comes to LABELS, WP wins hands down.) I use Word and other Office products because I have to. I choose WordPerfect and CSB because I want to. -Samantha

You could consider CSB (CuteSite Builder). Low learning curve, inexpensive and does allow you to insert code, your own menus, etc. My personal site is built with it: http://www.samisite.com Comes with templates but you do not have to use them (my site is not built with a template). And here's a review of the program: http://www.samisite.com/csbreview.htm (was easy to move it from the old host to TCH) Not a perfect program by any standards, but user friendly and fun to use. There's a user to user forum for assistance on both the TCH forum and at globalscape.com Lots of folks here at TCH use the program. 30 day free trial. Try it. You don't like it, you can go on to something else! -Samantha

Yes, Screensaver options are different than power options. They run independently. You can set your screen saver to kick in after a minute up to 60 minutes of inactivity on some versions of windows and on others you can go much longer before kicking in. Just set your wait time in the screensaver page. BY THE WAY.... in XP you can set the SCREENSAVER to create a slideshow of a folder of your own choosing. You do not need ACDSee to do that if your intent is to just have rotating images when your machine is inactive. Set the screensaver to My Picture Slideshow, click settings and use the BROWSE button to choose which folder will rotate images. Also you can set the speed of the rotation. Note that with some software installation, you should turn OFF your screensaver before installing. I have had a screensaver interfere with an installation and had to reinstall later. -Samantha
-
You didn't mention which OS your machine has. Access the screensaver by right clicking the desktop, choosing PROPERTIES and SCREENSAVER. Change your options to none to not have the screensaver kick in at all. Also, check your CONTROL PANEL for a POWER OPTIONS choice. You can set when the monitor turns off, and when or if your machine goes into standby. (on some machines you get to Control Panel from Start then Settings and others the Control panel is directly on the Start menu) -Samantha

Still looking for that "any" key. Anyone found it yet? woooot Yup. That's what I do. Faster, no quotas, and I can tell when someone accesses that file! Good solution all around for the folks I deal with most. -Samantha
-
Why not upload the file to your website, send an email with a LINK to the file for download. No zipping/unzipping, attachment blocking, no ftp worries, no renaming etc. Or is there an issue with downloading that type file? Since windows comes shipped with the option to "HIDE KNOWN FILE EXTENTIONS" checked, most folks don't know what a file extention looks like, or how to change it. -Samantha
