james8547 Posted March 3, 2004 Posted March 3, 2004 I own these 2 domain names. I need your input on which one to use. Which is "better" & why is it "better"? Which one would you remember more? jamescpa.biz or james-cpa.com Thanks for voting Quote
MikeJ Posted March 3, 2004 Posted March 3, 2004 (edited) I still think people identify with and remember .com better, so I voted james-cpa.com. Edited March 3, 2004 by TCH-MikeJ Quote
Guest LightKeeper Posted March 3, 2004 Posted March 3, 2004 I agree with TCH-MikeJ... A .com is easier to remember. My domain has a .ws and people always say.... Is that .com or .net. LoL Just my 3 cents... Quote
Wilexa Posted March 3, 2004 Posted March 3, 2004 Also, I read somewhere that having hyphenated names affected your search engine ranking. Some folks say it improves them, some say no. In any case, if someone was searching for "James" and "CPA", then the .com is the way to go. ...Dave Quote
james8547 Posted March 3, 2004 Author Posted March 3, 2004 I agree with TCH-MikeJ... A .com is easier to remember. My domain has a .ws and people always say.... Is that .com or .net. LoL Just my 3 cents... I know what you mean. The company that I work for is a .biz (hosted also by TCH ). People oftentimes mistake it as www.domain.biz.com or as www.domain.bz Quote
Virtual Imager Posted March 3, 2004 Posted March 3, 2004 i like jamescpa.biz. I think the hyphen is too easy to forget.... jamescpa all flows together and the dot biz can be seen as very professional... very cpa-ish. I might not recommend it for a retail store or something like that, but for a cpa firm it could be seen as pretty cool. Besides, if your site is likemost cpa sites, it is mainly for communicating with your existing clients and potential clients you have already identified and perhaps given your card to.... coming up in a search engine might not be quite as important. HCSuperStores Posted March 3, 2004 Posted March 3, 2004 I did some searching. Unless you have jamescpa.biz already, it's been taken. However, why not: www.cpajames.com ??? It still works ... doesn't it? Good luck ... it's a good thing to give your time to before deciding! Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted March 3, 2004 Posted March 3, 2004 I voted for .com for the same reasons as TCH-MikeJ HC's suggestion works too! Quote
kaseytraeger Posted March 3, 2004 Posted March 3, 2004 James, I voted for the .com name for the same reasons as others. However, since you're a CPA, you should know that there is a new proposed (if it hasn't already been implemented) extension called .pro that's reserved for business professionals like lawyers and attorneys. You could use that one, and really stand out from the crowd. Quote
Deverill Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 Get them all and park them on top of the "real" one! Quote
james8547 Posted March 4, 2004 Author Posted March 4, 2004 Thanks for all the input Thumbs Up Well it looks like that I'll be using james-cpa.com. I also polled other forums & asked several individuals. The results: 16% said that jamescpa.biz is better 6% said that both are bad domain names 78% said .com is better I personally think the 1st one was better. But most people don't even know what's .biz so I took a .com domain name. I think I'll pass on "cpajames." For some reason, accountants like to have the letters after their name. I might look into drjames. If Dr. Dre can be a doctor, then why can't I? Well I still have nothing to put on the site since I'm still working on getting the "CPA" part. I'll be getting my 4yr degree in Accounting next May (finally!). So hopefully I'll be able to take the test before the end of the year. I'll just send a help desk ticket. I have jamescpa.biz registered so I'll ask TCH to change it to james-cpa.com. Quote
