Devynn Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Hello everyone. I've been reading great things about TCH and I just signed up today. Looking forward to my account opening and transfering my domain over. I just thought I'd stop in and say hello to everyone. Quote
Head Guru Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Devynn, I have to tell you that you are a TWIN to my first cousin. I am looking for a photo of him now. Anyways, welcome to the family! Quote
Devynn Posted January 29, 2003 Author Posted January 29, 2003 Maybe I have a long, lost brother...hehehe Quote
Lianna Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Punk Kittens! You guys have to check this out! Devynn's site - Click the Punk Kittens menu item ...and look! It's Ayman on the Viking Kittens page! I really needed that today. Thanks Devynn! Lianna Quote
Devynn Posted January 29, 2003 Author Posted January 29, 2003 hehe, well, I didn't make those, I found them at another site and decided to host the files on my site for ease of use. But they are great, aren't they! Quote
section31 Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 was just telling lstover via yahoo im, that i was about to post the same thing referring to the flash animations on the site...she beat me to the punch by a second... @Devynn, u may want to try out another bulletin board...have u tried phpbb? Other than that...nice site.. Quote
Lianna Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 So, I had to call my husband and let him in on the kitten thing. He is, as we speak, calling all of his buddies! I haven't heard him laugh that much since I told him I was determined to lose 10 pounds! Lianna Quote
Devynn Posted January 29, 2003 Author Posted January 29, 2003 Devynn, u may want to try out another bulletin board...have u tried phpbb? Other than that...nice site.. The bulletin board was something more to play around with. It doesn't get used to much, but I haven't tried phpbb. Maybe I can look that over. Quote
section31 Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Check it out...really easy to setup and has really nice features....and the best part of it is that its free...hehehe... Vbulletin would probably be my favorite, but its a paid bulletin board package... I've been using phpBB for nearly a month since I setup my first webiste here at Totalchoice, and I've been very pleased with it... here is an example of mine using a template... http://startrektendencies.section31.us/board/ read more about it here.. http://www.phpbb.com Quote
Lianna Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Here's mine using Cobalt template: http://stoverdatasystems.com/forum Lianna Quote
rayners Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 I've got a couple running Invision Board (like this forum). http://forums.rayners.org http://forums.theplothooks.org Not a whole lot of traffic at the moment, but the board software itself is absolutely wonderful. I've tried phpBB and a few others, but I settled on Invision. Quote
section31 Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 eesh..just found out that the Cpanel can install the phpbb board for you...hehehe... I didn't even see this... Quote
Devynn Posted January 29, 2003 Author Posted January 29, 2003 lol, well, looks like if I use a board it will probably be phpbb then. I'll probably end up disabling my board before I move the site since it probably won't be configured properly once it is moved to the new server. Quote
Devynn Posted January 30, 2003 Author Posted January 30, 2003 Well, got my account opened this morning and I installed the Invision Power Board. It was really easy to install, even with my domain not propagated yet, and seems pretty easy to configure and track what happens on it. Thanks for all the tips and the warm welcome. Quote
KevinW Posted January 30, 2003 Posted January 30, 2003 So you downloaded and installed it yourself, rather than having TCH do it for you? BTW ... it seems to me that several users have posted here in the past that they had installed one package or anothere prior to their domain name being fully propogated, and later on had some problems with the package. Just a heads up that in a day or two, if it appears you are having any problems, you might need to uninstall and reinstall it. Hopefully not, though! -kw Quote
TCH-Rick Posted January 30, 2003 Posted January 30, 2003 I installed a couple of Invision Boards on here before the DNS had propagated and have had no problems that seemed to be related to the install. I did have problems in trying to restore a backup of a board from another host. I was using a different skin than the default and that caused me to not be able to get into the admin panel. I added a user and went into phpMyAdmin and gave admin rights to that user and was able to straighten everything out. Starting fresh on here should go smoothly and InVision certainly is easy to install. Quote
Devynn Posted January 30, 2003 Author Posted January 30, 2003 Well, I propgated my own domain forcefully since I controlled the DNS servers it ran on before I moved it here. I just changed them to point to the new IP and it's working fine that way. Made a couple of configuration changes in the admin portion of the board and all is great. Quote
TCH-Don Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 Welcome to the family Chris, I am sore from laughing, love your cat animations! Nice site! Yes the Invision board is the best, I did have to change the included avatars default size to 64x64, to make them display at the right size. take care Quote
