Hi :)

A couple of days ago I started a new forum on a free site (boardnation) which has kinda exceeded my expectations somewhat in its popularity!! lol I have already used about 1/5th of my free space quota in the 2 days and the paid upgrades are too expensive for me unfortunately :(

To cut to the chase - I would like to start again on paid (but cheap) space - hence coming here! B)

The board is Yabbse - I would like to stick with this - will this work here?

Also what plan would you recommend? (hoping for cheapest here) At the moment there are approx 300 posts a day - i have no idea how that translates into bandwidth

One final question - would I be able to host more than one board on the same plan (space & bandwidth allowing lol) My other board is again currently free hosted - but somewhat quieter

Any advice much appreciated Thumbs Up

Hi,

1) Yes it will work here no problem, however, TCH offers both invision boards and phpBB forums which can be set up at a press of a button.

2) Last month I had 2000 unique visitors, just under 5000 visits, 52,000 page reads and 255,000 hits which equates to about 900mb of bandwidth. I would suggest with 300 posts a day, you would need the minimum of the silver package. If your bandwidth does go through the roof, you can upgrade to the higher level package. Space should not be a problem

3) You can host as many forums as you like!

Any more questions, please feel free to ask!

Hi,

I havent used YABBSE, but I've just had a look at their web site.

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work here. Personally I perfer to use one of the boards that you can install from Cpanel here (phpbb or Invision), but that's a personal choice.

yes, you can run 2 boards.

Thanks for the quick replies!!!

I have calculated number of page views a month (based on figures so far) at around 30,000 - but I would guess that the views and posts will drop lower once the novelty wears off a bit lol!!

I am trying to keep costs down as it is purely for fun (though any tips on making it pay for itself wouldn't go amiss!!! lolol) If I went for the cheapest package for a year, and found it wasn't big enough is it easy to upgrade? And would the free month offer still apply on the upgrade?

Also (as a novice at this) if I stick with Yabbse - is it easy to install ?

Thanks again for the help Thumbs Up

I just installed it on my home test server in a total of about 3 mins. That didn't include the d/l time (fast on broadband of course) and I haven't done any tweaking on it yet, but it was as simple as knowing a few answers to a few questions. There are only two files to use in the install, and the rest is just providing SQL Username, PW, and the normal questions that must be answered before any kind of SQL based install. I'm going to mess around with it a bit today, and see how I like it...

Hi,

I am not sure if the free month would still apply, but I would hazard a guess and say yes.

Its very easy to set up any forum, and if you do have a problem, then please do ask here in the forums or via the support desk!

....so you may see me back here for help very soon ;)

imadsurfer - (and anyone else who's tried it) - I'd be very interested on what you thought of yabbse. I found it easy to use, and my members like it - but I'm a total novice so would love to hear other opinions :D

Looking forward to getting started now!!!! :D Thanks again for the advice Rock Sign

Hey Mitty,

Welcome aboard! I'm sure you will really like it here...it's like a big happy family. Thumbs Up

As for the yabbse, I finished setting it up on my home server, and it's pretty nice. I still prefer InVision, but that may just be because that is really the only board I have administered for any amount of time, and I know it fairly well. Some of the things on yabbse I didn't find very intuitive, but again, if that's what you're used to I would recommend you stick with it. If you do decide to change to InVision, there are alot of people here who can answer your questions......

Happy Forum'ing
