KnightMatrix Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 i purchased the deluxe package ,first i can make them but when i click the links to go to them i cant access them page cannot be found sec whats the purpose of having unlimited subdomains if you do not have the right to use them it would be breach of contract according to a post i read here ... third i was told to make a ticket concerning the matter of me not beeing able to access the subs like im supose to, but the problem is the username and password that was sent to me with my package info will not work in help center area where im supose to make the ticket not only that but somehow it has me down as payer of my bill but has the person who actually paid the account as site owner even tho the domain is in my name the part but you guys hosting my domain is in there name and i have never recieved a welcome email with the user help password and name for the help area the only username and password that i did recieve seem to only work for cpanel and mysql admins if i have deluxe package why cant get some of my options to work????? soem help would be appreciated Quote
leezard Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 (edited) did you put an index file in the subdomains you created? If there is no index page you will get a page can not be displayed message because there is nothing to display. Another thing it could be is DNS hasnt propogated yet. That usually takes 24-72 hours for your DNS to propogate through the internet. Edited June 20, 2003 by leezard Quote
imadsurfer Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 Actually, once the main site has propagated, there should be no wait for a subdomain to work. The only thing to propagate is the main domain name. I just set up a sub-domain, and it worked instantly. Has your main site propagated yet? ImaD Quote
TCH-Rob Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 If I understand the policy correctly you can use unlimited subdomains if they are relavant to your site. Say I sell thingabobbers on thingabobbers.com. If you are having an issue with your thingabobber you can go to support.thingabobber.com. If you want a refund I can make refund.thingabobber.com. As long as it has something to do with my thingabobbers I am selling I can make a subdomain for it. Quote

leezard Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 Actually, once the main site has propagated, there should be no wait for a subdomain to work I know subdomains dont need to propogate, since it was his forst post it was pretty safe to assume it was a new account. Quote
imadsurfer Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 I understand your logic on it being his first post...but I had been using TCH for over 2 mos. before I scambled into the Forums... lol....so you just never know... Thumbs Up ImaD Quote
Head Guru Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 Actually, once the main site has propagated, there should be no wait for a subdomain to work. The only thing to propagate is the main domain name. I just set up a sub-domain, and it worked instantly. Has your main site propagated yet? ImaD Not so. TCH uses a MASTER/SLAVE DNS System. So instead of the server your account is on handling the DNS for your account, we sub it out to a master and then a slave DNS server. Why do we do this. Redundant Services. Instead of one server handling DNS requests, which is typical for hosters. The name servers we give you are redundant. So if the master dns goes down, nameserver #2 is a seperate server. Thus if dns lookufor your first Nameserver failures, it rolls over to the slave DNS server. Its very slick. However, it can slow down a new dns entry as it has to propagate to the Master and Slave DNS. The max time this would take is 15 minutes. In most cases t is instant, but there can also be a delay. Just thought you would like to know. Quote
imadsurfer Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 Hey..thanks Bill...I'm always interested in getting the facts straight. I will admit that in my world, 15 mins is still pretty instant though.. lol... Thanks again for the info... ImaD Quote
TCH-Sales Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 Just in case anybody is curious on what you can and can't do with a subdomain still, I tried my best to explain it in this thread: http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...=2585&hl=keeler Quote
KevinW Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 Mitch, I added your subdomain acceptable & unacceptable examples to the TCH Help Web site. Take a look at it here! -kw Quote
