roadmap Posted June 10, 2003 Posted June 10, 2003 I've read a lot of post here but I could'nt find the answer. My question is how do you set up a fourum? Can some post a step by step how to? I wanted to use the Invision one but I dont know where to start. Also is it free to use? Quote
Singer Posted June 10, 2003 Posted June 10, 2003 The Invision forum is quite easy to set up and to use, and it's free. If you haven't done so already, it might be worthwhile starting off with a Search here in TotalChoice's bulletin board for "Invision". There's been a fair bit of discussion and might give you some background. To set it up, do the following: 1. In your CPanel main page, click on "Addon Scripts" in the "CGI Scripts" box. 2. On the page that's displayed, click on InvisionBoard. 3. In the InvisionBoard Setup page that's displayed, type in your admin user id and admin password. You choose these. 4. Specify the URL where you want it installed. They note that it must be at your top level directory, and they provide an example using your domain name. Click on the "Install" button. 5. The bulletin board will be created. 6. To go to your bulletin board, specify the location of it as your web address. For instance, if you called it "london", specify www.ripthejacker.net/london. The empty bulletin board with a "Test" forum will be displayed. 7. Towards the top of the page you'll see "Welcome Guest ( Log In | Register )". Click on Log In and specify the administrator user id and password that you supplied during the install. From here on in, I'll leave you on your own... Good luck! Quote

roadmap Posted June 13, 2003 Author Posted June 13, 2003 with invision board you have to upload the zip file to the achive in folder and then go into your admin panel and install it. What archive in what folder? At this point im completely lost. There is alot of info on how to install the skin, but Im having problems with where to upload it, if I un-zip it before I upload it and do I need to create a new directory. Any feedback will be useful. Head Bash Quote
TCH-JimE Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 Hi, The skin you should have should be in a zip format, properly something like .tar You will need to upload this to I believe the _upload folder (do not unzip it) Then login as admin, and go down the side menu till you get to skins and you will have the option there to import the skin. Select the skin which you have just uploaded and away you go! If you have further problems, do not hesitate to ask! Jim Quote
roadmap Posted June 13, 2003 Author Posted June 13, 2003 ok, I dont have a "_upload folder" section OR 'achive" in folder. if I do Im missing it. Head Bash Quote
Twisted Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 Login to your ftp. Open the folder that your forum resides in, at the very top there will be a folder called "archive_in" Upload your zip folder there (don't unzip). Then go to your admin panel in your forum "http://yoururl/directory/admin.php" then on the left side look for a section called "skins & templates" click that, after it opens click "Import Skin files" you will see the zip you just uploaded and then click import. your done. roadmap Posted June 13, 2003 Author Posted June 13, 2003 Is it possible that my forum dosent reside in a folder? Was I suppose to create one? I was found after I read your thread, but now Im back to banging a wall with my head. Head Bash If I find that folder I think I will be alright. Quote
Twisted Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 Your folder will be called "canibus" look in there for the archive_in folder. Url to board: http://ripthejacker.net/canibus Quote
Twisted Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 the folder directory should be setup like example below: /public_html/canibus/archive_in Quote
roadmap Posted June 13, 2003 Author Posted June 13, 2003 I'm about to try it again! The sad part is, once I get it set-up will I be able to maintain it? Quote
