Guest Guest_shadyDW Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 HELP!!! What inexpensive programs are best used for website designing? One that requires minimal html knowledge. Is there a program for website designing that automatically convert plain text into html format? Quote
chuckmalani Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 some people on here swear by cutesite builder. its inexpensive and has a following here, so people could help you with it. I use dreamweaver, but thats an expensive program, and if all you need is text to html, it might be overkill. if you have MS word, you can open a document, type in your text, and then "Save As Webpage" or something like that. It will automatically produce the HTML tags for you. But.... MSWord HTML tags are ugly! Don't say i didn't warn you. I think that would be the fastest way though... check out sites like this sitepoint.com or webmonkey.com for all kinds of tutorials and articles. sitepoint has good forums too (but remember to stay loyal to TCH forums!) chuckmalani Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 oh here is the TCH Help page link for cuteSite Quote
twowheels Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 I personally like vim, but it doesn't meet your requirement of requiring minimal HTML knowledge. Quote
twowheels Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 On a more serious note... (than my last post) If you're just doing some simple design layout, Mozilla composer is decent. Mozilla (if you're unfamiliar with it) is a free, open source, browser/mail/irc-chat/nntp/html composer/bloat/more bloat/and more feature bloat, but overall nice program. Quote
TCH-JimE Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 Hi, Hotmetal Pro, CoffeeCup and AceHTML are good for your purposes. Also the Front Page Express (MS though ) could be used Jim Quote
George Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 Well, I use FrontPage XP and so far so good... I can't say nothing about others because I don''t know them... But then, with this FrontPage I have some ünsolve problems: Since I don't know nothing about html codes, I dont know how to transform a PowerPoint Presentationto an html(with some text or images zooming-in and a wav sound at the beggining and at the end of the "show"... Some ideas any one?' have try some programs that say "they do it" but the results where far away from the original presentation... and what can I do the directors love it... (this is my punishment for doing it "attractive"). Thank for any help Cordially, g. Quote
elvenjess Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 When I first started out with web design I used Frontpage Express (that was before I started to hate MS ). It helped me learn the basic tags and such. Now I use PHPEdit for most editing (PHP, HTML, CSS). If you're just doing some simple design layout, Mozilla composer is decent. Mozilla (if you're unfamiliar with it) is a free, open source, browser/mail/irc-chat/nntp/html composer/bloat/more bloat/and more feature bloat, but overall nice program. Mozilla rocks! The world would be a lot easier if everyone used Mozilla/Netscape instead of IE with its lack of standards... Quote
Guest Guest Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 TotalChoiceHosting- Family Help Forum Rocks. Thanks to all for the help. I will check out some of those Website Design Programs. Quote
xGrendel Posted April 5, 2003 Posted April 5, 2003 If you are just doing a page of plain text and nothing fancy, just use Notepad and save the file as .html voila! instant, plain webpage. Quote
elvenjess Posted April 5, 2003 Posted April 5, 2003 If you are just doing a page of plain text and nothing fancy, just use Notepad and save the file as .html voila! instant, plain webpage. Well...you would need the ><html>, <head>, and <body> tags... Quote
Matt Posted April 5, 2003 Posted April 5, 2003 I use coffeecup. You can try the trial for free to see if it works for you. I would recommend getting the paid version if you like the trial. Not too expensive. Quote
