borfast Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 I can't belive what I have just saw... http://salon.com/mwt/the_big_idea/2004/10/...2/index_np.html I mean... yes, it's a great way to save one of our planet's natural resources but.............. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 If I had to chose between dying or drinking anything that could save me, yes. Otherwise, no. Quote
borfast Posted October 22, 2004 Author Posted October 22, 2004 Well, I'd go a step further and say that even if I wasn't dying I would drink it, because unfortunately, our planet's natural resources conditions are far worse than most people think and we should do everything we can to improve the situation. Still, the idea of drinking recycled sewer water is kind of... creepy... Quote
btrfld Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 It's not a new idea. Frank Herbert in Dune posited a whole society living in an endless desert, wearing suits that recycled all their bodily water and fed it back to the wearer to drink. Of course the idea of drinking my own recycled fluids is certainly more appealing than someone else's. Still, as Raul says the situation is getting worse, not better. Who knows what we may live to experience. Quote
AlanV Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 Well, considering that most of the water we drink probably has passed through a person or animal at one time or other, we're already drinking wastes whenever we drink ANY water. Eh, whatever. I'd drink it, as long as it was guarenteed safe. Quote
bellringr Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 That's what astronauts do - every bit of water they exhale, excrete - everything is recycled and reused. They say it's more pure than our normal tap water is. We drink recycled water too. After it goes through the sewage treatment plants, it gets back into the system. Quote
TCH-Don Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 Even better, drink Dew Most waste water is cleaned and sent along to somewhere and eventually goes back into the source for water treatment plants where we get our drinking water Hopefully the trip between takes a while Quote
Head Guru Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 My uncles are Union Iron Workers and have been working in the Detroit Waste Water Treatment plants for sometime. I have heard the stories of how nasty that water is. However, As nasty as this sounds, YES I would drink the water. Of course I would drink my prefered bottled water first. Bill PS: I agree with Don, drink DEW. Bill Quote
DarqFlare Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 All flavors of Mountain Dew > water Seriously, water is water. If it was toilet water before, oh well. If it's been cleaned, then there's no issue, drink it! Quote
borfast Posted October 24, 2004 Author Posted October 24, 2004 I agree, Robert. Water is water... unless it hasn't been cleaned very well... That's my only concern: the diseases and infections one might get from drinking water that hasn't been treated as it should. It's an eery thought, knowing that you're drinking stuff that has been in your neighbour's toilet before, or in the local hospital.... Quote
tyrael Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 I would have no problem drinking it. I drink Atlanta tap water, and that water probably tastes better than what I'm used to. Quote
!!blue Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 Yeah, it's hard to think that the whole of the earth's water has been completely recycled like 5 times or something in the earth's history. So we could be drinking dinosaur pee, caveman's tears, glacier residue, even Einstein's sweat! Sorry to paint the picture but that makes me wonder how people can say we'll run out of water one day. Isn't it just recycled? later, !!blue Quote
TCH-Don Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 LOL I was thinking the same thing, but was thinking of caveman pee Yes I have read the all the water in one form or another is still here or recycled as you say. Of course the more time between ones output and my input the better Quote
Beeronius Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 I wouldn't touch that with a ten-foot pole. Quote
