Sorry...I can't help you since I personally have not done this. But perhaps if you can post the specific problems you are having, maybe others will have seen the same issue and can respond with some answers.
I, too, have recently been getting a LOT of spam in my personal email. (Used to get maybe 1-2 messages a month!) Guess spammers have been sending out new mailing lists to each other! You are doing the right thing to try to combat it by scanning your system and deleting the messages without reading them. Have you got Spam Assassin turned on? The SA settings may require some tweaking.
I haven't heard of that, but then again, that's not to say that it's not possible. Hopefully some of our more "security-wise" family members will chime in here.
I would try it yourself in cPanel. If you're still seeing errors, go ahead and have the Help Desk check it out to make sure there's nothing wrong on the server side of things.
Oh...and welcome to the forums!
Unless I'm mistaken, TCH is at the mercy of cPanel. Whenever cPanel updates the version, TCH will. As stated earlier in this thread, the best (and maybe safest) way to go is to install and/or upgrade yourself. That way you have the latest version.
