  1. Do you have some kind of faq on hand-coding the hotlinking? If it is really involved and above the head of someone who doesn't even have a grasp on php yet, then I'll wait. But if it is relatively simple and it betters my understanding, I wouldn't mind tackling it. Thanks, Tracy
  2. Just wanted to say thanks to Jim and Rick for awesome report. A 17 minute turn around on a help ticket is AWESOME!! Thank you for fixing it and dealing with my ignorance on such things! For the curious minded...Rick disabled and re-enabled my Hotlink Protection, removing the .swf extension. This led to my movie loading again. He did note that before he fixed it, the movie would load fine on Opera and Mozilla, just not IE. Don't know why... Anyway...THANK YOU!! Tracy
  3. Jim, sorry I didn't see your other post before I posted my response. I will start a help ticket, but I can't do it until later this evening. I'm on a military computer and don't have access to my cpanel for any info. I might want to provide! I will do that, though, sometime after 5pm this evening! Thanks, Tracy
  4. I don't know...could it have something to do with my recent update to my .htaccess file in the root directory? All I did was add the line (I think that is correct)...just to keep my directories from being displayed. Everything else still works fine, though! I think I also enabled hotlink protection...but I can't remember if I included the .swf file type. And I can't check it until I get back to my computer later today. The military computer I'm on won't let me access cpanel. Thank you for checking it out for me and explaining some of the error code. Tracy
  5. ...nothing great and wonderful in the awstats. I'll check it again later after today's update. Here is my error log from cpanel: None of this really means a whole lot to me. What is 403.shtml??? The first errors listed from 8-something this morning are from when I tried to open the gallery page. Thanks, Tracy
  6. I didn't know where to post this, so it landed here!! My gallery page in my website was working fine until recently. I had made no updates to the page, until today when I tried to fix it. My flash movie will not load and I have no idea why. And when it is trying to load, I suddenly can't use my "stop" button on my browser. Yet, nothing is actually being transmitted. Today, I re-uploaded the .htm page itself, and I re-uploaded the flash file. Please take a look here at www.naturalimagesweb.com/gallery.htm and offer any advice. The page will be re-vamped in the future, but I'd like it to work until then!! I have not checked my awstats for errors, will do so now and post any findings. I do not know how to check any other kind of error stats. If there is something else I can look at...please edumacate me!! Thanks, Tracy
  7. Thanks guys...yes, it's a Dreamweaver template, and it is not a page that I intend to use. It's just where I got all the code for my new parent.php file. I just didn't know that it would come up as code because I had been using IE to preview my layout. As long as it is just because it's a template...I don't care!!! Don't know about the Flash movie...guess I need to re-upload it. Haven't done any work on it, so I'm not sure what could have caused the sudden problem. But, thanks for checking it for me! Tracy
  8. Hi, Jim. Unfortunately, I don't have another exact page like that with working java. The pages posted are part of a future site update that I'm just beginning. I do have a different page with rollover buttons that were also created in Fireworks. I was trying to figure out this morning if I could compare the two...but then I started having trouble with my Flash movie opening up. Anyway, what I've figured out this morning (I think) is that my rollovers are not preloading...yet I think I have code for this in the java?!?! Here are the pages I was trying to compare: www.naturalimagesweb.com/parent.php and www.naturalimagesweb.com/gallery.htm. I have not yet been able to verify that there are no errors on the gallery page, but I don't think there are. Let me know if you also have trouble with the flash movie. Also...the template file that I used to create parent.php opens as code in Netscape and Mozilla. Why in the world does it do this??? The url is www.naturalimagesweb.com/Templates/parent.dwt Thanks, Tracy
  9. Sorry...that link above is not working...I am trying to fix it... ...what a bone head I am sometimes! The correct link is www.naturalimagesweb.com/Templates/parent.dwt. You know what...I have the same errors on this page and didn't know it. So...excuse all of this from me. I still need some help I guess with the javascript...but I'm supposing that I should've started my own thread. My apologies, Tracy
  10. Thanks for the clarification on the "bump", Jack! And thanks for the congrats. I was walking on cloud 9 yesterday just because of the success. I'm still waiting on that blasted book, though. No, I don't really think it is the php slowing things down. But, it almost seems that I've lost my preload function, which seems to work fine on this page: www.naturalimagesweb.com/parent.dwt, which is the same page that I literally copied and pasted code from to make my "php templates". I don't know anything about javascript coding either...just that it looks really complicated if you don't know anything about it. Tracy
  11. Dumb question here...what's a "bump"? ...and by the way...the links that are on the above posted parent.php do not work yet. I am aware of this. I'm only in the beginning stages of my site rebuild.
  12. Morning all... After learning the php include() concept and trying it out, I got it to work and actually look almost correct yesterday. I also experienced some problems with my page loading. Seemed to be something to do with my javascript. The page would appear okay, however, it was a little slower than usual and the rollover images for the navigation bar were VERY slow and actually gave me a page error upon the first load. Then when I would refresh the page, I got no errors and everything was fine. The nav. bar was created in Fireworks. I will post code below. I apologize now for some of it being lengthy. I'll delete some of the plain ole' html if I can. OH, and, please don't call my code messy. It's very sensitive right now and working hard to improve it's appearance!! Code from parent.php: ><?php include $_server['document_root']."inc/parent1H.htm"; ?> <tr align="center" valign="top"> <td height="323" align="center" valign="top" class="cellbrder"><!-- 13. I have a few things I would like to try before I bother anyone with looking through my messy code. It actually may be a couple of weeks as I will be away from my computer all of next week But if I can't figure it out, I will gladly provide urls and post code!!! Hopefully by then my book will be here and I'll have a few other things finished and out of my hair. Thanks again!
  14. Jack, I gave up (for now) on bringing the javascript in like I was thinking...I just included all the code in my "header" file. And when I said that I had tried that before...I was ONLY talking about the javascript code line that you had provided. I had not tackled the header/footer project yet. I just didn't know that bringing javascript into a page was quite a bit different than bringing in an .htm file. I was trying to take a baby step and ended up making it more complicated than necessary. I did succeed this evening in creating the "php templates". Now I just have to figure out why my table dimensions were all jacked up! Thanks for all the time you've put into helping me and others here at TCH!! Tracy
  15. Thanks, Jack. I do believe I tried it that way...but one can never be sure after trying a million plus times! I will work on it again tonight after work. I very well may have messed up my javascript code when I made the .js file. Thank you very much...once I get this part made, I will begin the header/footer work! Tracy
  16. OK...I'm sure I'm doing something simple and stupid...but it won't work (she says pulling her hair out!). When my PHP Bible arrives, I'll think I'll begin to worship it. Then I'll have to buy a Javascript book as well!!! Anyway...there was one thing in a previous post that I didn't understand: I'm thinking that means I need to have both the include line and the script language line. So, I did this with my code: ><!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <title>Natural Images Photography Home Page</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <meta name="keywords" content="MY KEYWORDS"> <meta name="description" content="MY DESCRIPTION"> <link href="../main.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"> <?php include $_SERVER['DOCUMENT ROOT']."inc/parent2.js"; ?> <script src="/inc/parent2.js" defer="defer" type="text/javascript"></script> </head> BODY BEGINS HERE... The .js file is in the inc folder on the site root, per the tutorial for footer and header includes. My javascript works fine until I try to take it out of the document and make it a file of it's own. Now...a totally unrelated question. When reading through threads in this Board, I've noticed that sometimes a user name listed at the bottom is in red. Does that mean that that person is currently responding to that thread? Just curious. Thanks, Tracy
  17. alrighty, then...I'll remain hopeful. Thank you for all your wonderful knowledge!! By the way...how do you know when Google finishes a "dance", as you put it?? Have a good evening! Tracy
  18. I will give that a try. I did try to include a .js file using the code that you (surefire) had provided in your tutorial examples, but I got an error on the page and my javascript did not load. I have no idea why it would not work...maybe I'll take a look at it again later and see some little something that I couldn't see at 4am this morning!!! Thanks, Tracy
  19. I'm trying to play off all the "includes" information that has been passed on recently! Can I use an include for a .js file in the same manner that has been shown for header and footer html files? thanks, Tracy
  20. Hello, I added my link to the Family page quite a while back...when that last contest took place. I'm having multiple problems where Google is concerned, but I'm not worried about it too much right now because I will soon revamp my whole site. I'm sure I have issues that are causing me to fall off the index! However, when I type in my url, Google asks if I want to see pages that contain my url. Only two pages come up...the TCH Family page is not one of them. I actually have a few inbound links that aren't showing up there. Is there a logical reason for this that I am just not seeing? Thanks for the help! Tracy
  21. 2477 KB was the size of the .swf file in my temp. folder. Tracy
  22. I'm definately not one of the brains of this group, but having worked a little bit with Flash, I'd say that it is your intro. causing your friends to have a slow download...the addition of music will slow it down even more. I will say that I connected from DSL and it loaded very smoothly and quickly. Tracy
  23. Jack...I just wanted to tell you that the above post was the one that I somehow missed out on, and then couldn't remember what thread I had asked the question on. Thanks for the mental process...that will help some. I apologize for asking the same question twice. Beyond that...I ordered my book last night. Hopefully it won't take long to get here. In the meantime...I'm going to work on the PHP template idea. I definately see the possibilities with that! Tracy
  24. I just happened across this thread this morning as I came to this forum to post something else! As a member of the Air Force Reserves, I wanted to say thanks to everyone out there who supported the troops that got deployed to war in the recent months. I, thankfully, did not! I also want to comment on some of the things that have been said here in this thread. A comment was made about all the soldiers supporting the President and such in this war...I can tell you right now that the first soldier to tell any news reporter or journalist that he/she doesn't support some conflict that is currently going on will be a very sorry soldier! Most know this, and would NEVER say anything against any military action no matter what he/she really thinks. Not all soldiers did/do support this war. But they have a job...and just like any other job, sometimes it involves things you don't agree with. This war has roots from long ago...probably longer than I know. The next ten years or so will show the true reasons our government and thus our country went to war. Saddam Hussein is a crazed, power hungry ogre as far as I'm concerned. And he needed to be removed from power. I just hope that our government's motives have much more to do with those two statements than anything else! Thanks again to those supporting the troops. I know how much it would mean to me if I were over there doing my job! Tracy
  25. Thanks for the link and book recommendation. I've got no problem buying a book and plan to do so soon. However, I live out in the boonies...about an hour and 45 minutes away from the closest place to buy such a book. Actually, I will probably buy online, but just haven't done it yet. Never fear...I do listen to "the ones in the know"!!! Thanks again, Tracy
