  1. I actually doubt that many scripts would stop working with PHP 5. You can cofnigure it to be very backwads comptiable if need be. I was also going to say that maybe updating to PHP 5 would stop a lot of older, insecure, scripts from working but I doubt things like formmail would be affected as it is a simple script. Atleast now I get to test the fixes I wrote for Lazarus users who are on 4.4.1.
  2. The question is intelligent because I was asking why they didn't just go upto PHP 5 given that people would have to patch/upgrade their scripts with this upgrade anyway and PHP 5 is less likely to hang on their servers and crash web browsers.
  3. In my opinion it is an intelligent enough question (and yes it is a question). They said they would not update to PHP 5 as it would require people to update their scripts but they will update to PHP 4.4 which also requires people to update their scripts and can cause browsers to hang and possible the server also. I am not going to start repeating myself nor start defending my opinion as I would rather this thread stuck to it's subject.
  4. Now I know this will get moved but I want to ask it anyway. There was a thread where a TC user asked if thee was any chance of his server being updated with PHP 5. He was told that this would not happen becase PHP 5 would break a lot of scripts. Today, for the first time in a while, I checked my servers PHP version and found it had been updated to PHP 4.4.1! Now I find it funny that TC wont update to PHP 5 as it MIGHT stop some older scripts from working but they will happily update to PHP 4.4.1 despite the fact it has a known bug that a lot of scripts have had to release patch files to fix, my own script included. In fact this bug can cause web browser to hang and in some cases crash whilst the scripts are trying to execute. If it causes the browsers to hang whats it doing to the servers? </rant>
  5. Bob which guestbook script are you using? If it is Advanced Guestbook from proxy2.de then make sure you have updated to 2.3.4 and then you can download a fix from www.carbonize.co.uk/AG or you can upgrade to Lazarus which is a fork of AG that I make. If it is some other script then maybe I can take a look at writing a mod for it.
  6. True which is why I have modded mine to encrypt email addresses using javascript and ascii. I suppose I should learn how to make a SMF mod script so others can use it. Another advantage is that SMF warns you if there has been a post made whilst you were typing yours.
  7. I installed SMF with no problems at http://lazarus.carbonize.co.uk but as it was not easy to integrate into a site I built the site around it. Not 100% on why you are getting that error message. Hopefully one of the techs can help you.
  8. Personally I am against companies running serverside virus checking and spam filtering because 1 - You never know what mail they are rejecting or 2 - If they do notify you, and if you are lucky, you then have to login to a website to change settings and say what is allowed and what is not.
  9. There will always be need for some HTML formatting given the huge differences between the way different browsers handle the box model. Not to mention IE's poor CSS support.
  10. As Steve says it's always safer to run your own. The same applies to spam filtering.
  11. Good job I finally decided to click the link in one of the many, many, many emails I received telling me this thread had received new messages. Wouldn't of known otherwise. Now if I can only win the lottery
  12. Try Lazarus and you can even keep your existing Advanced Guestbook entries.
  13. Personally I use the k-lite mega codec pack for all my audio/video codecs. If anybody s having problems with Irfanview there is an almost identical program called XN View - xnview.com
  14. Don't worry, you remind me of me. I tend to speed read things and get the wrong idea. Before now I have posted the answer to one thread in an entirely different thread.
  15. wampthing I think you got the wrong end of the stick. I believe they want to check OTHER POP mail using Yahoo and not check Yahoo using POP. Although I could be wrong.
  16. No it's more likely they just used Google. There is a major exploit in Advanced Guestbook 2.2 whereby anybody can login as admin. Some people have been using the exploit to upload phishing pages to vulnerable sites. I highly doubt any "hacker" is going to bother trying to brute force a random sites passwords. They are more likely to just look for exploitable scripts they can make use of.
  17. Well since they said only audio and video files it is simple enough to get the mime type and discard anything that is neither of these.
  18. Simple enough to do. Hell would probably only require about 10 lines of code if that.
  19. No I was asking airjunkie2000 what they required from a script because as I said I doubt it would be that hard for me to throw something together.
  20. So basically all the user will see is a input box for selecting the file and a submit button? All files then get put into a single folder. Any checks to be performed on the files or are all file types acceptable? Not a difficult script to throw together if thats all it does.
  21. I still highly recommend using Spamihilator to stop spam. Unfortunately people don't want to run their own spam filter and would sooner depend on serverside spam filtering. The problem I see with that is one mans spam is another mans news. A previous host did serverside spam filtering and it was blocking a lot of my legitimate emails as well. I just like the fact I can open up Spamihilator from the systray and see what it has stopped and why as well as what it has allowed.
  22. Ah well I didn't get that far but I suppose it is like with forums. The best format was found a while back so everybody sticks with that.
  23. I just looked at that shop-script.com and then looked at the live sites running it. It looks idenitcal to OScommerce except that OScommerce is free. Wonder if something fishy going on.
  24. 1.5.1 is out. Update and tell me what I messed up.
  25. I used OScommerce myself. It can be a bit complicated but is open source and powerful.
