  1. Thanks Vendlus. You were very clear and it worked perfectly. Unfortunately I wasn't real impressed with the blog itself so the little boxturtle will continue his slow but steady search!

    Uh Oh

Yes, thank you guys. I know a database driven setup would be better. Perhaps when I am better in a few months I can tackle that major task
  3. I was going to try using movable-type for my 'blog' but I only managed to make a mess of it several times. So I went looking for something a little simpler and came across Blog by Jonathan Beckett and it seems simple enough except for one line in the instructions : Run the SQL in database.sql (supplied) through your database. The contents of that file are : I really don't have any idea what is meant by that. Help please? Ty

Seems it remains no matter what I do *sigh* So it goes

Grrrrrrrrrrr. I've tried everything I can think of and I'm still getting the same errors in the error log - - even though the page is delivering the includes file. It doesn't appear to be happening with any specific browser that I can tell. It all works fine for me in IE6, NS7, Mozilla, Opera and even though the CSS falls apart it works in NS4.72 Still lost..........................

I see, same rules apply - makes sense. I may still do it that way (with php) AFTER I get this mess all starightened out..lol Thanks Jack - I had a feeling you might answer ......all I wanted was complete control - is that too much for a lowly turtle to ask??!!
  8. I renamed the folders yesterday and as of yet I've seen no negative effects. *.....fingers crossed......*

    Uh Oh

Yes, I'll try just .htm next. If I put a php includes into the mainpage.html don't I have to rename it mainpage.php? (please don't make me have to rename 20,000 pages and 20,000 links and, and, and......) Thanks folks, All your input is ever helpful, I appreciate it. ====================================== Okay, I'm dumb. Well - I panic easily and sometimes forget to look at the entire picture. Turns out almost all the errors (100s and 100s) were attached to the same IP. Of course they are now blocked which only gives me 100s and 100s of different errors but at least I know everything seems ok. Although I'd really appreciate it if a few of you would check out a few lyrics pages and let me know if you're seeing a "normal" page or just onelongrunonsentence because I am still getting the error.
  10. Hey hey, quite the day! congrats!
  11. Alriiiiiiiight! Thumbs Up

    Uh Oh

Thanks for the input. I tried both ways and unfortunately neither worked. This time I got the error processing message on an unformatted page. Now I'm really stuck

I have 20,000 .html pages on my site. I wanted to add headers and footers using SSI so I put this in each html file : and relied upon (as I have and do on this site) : in .htaccess to work around the shtml/html problem. Now however, even though the pages are being served, everything is there, the error log is filled with : I am sooooooo lost. I know I should have checked the error log before I did all 20,000 pages but because they were rendering properly I didn't think anything of it.
  14. Sound advice indeed. Thanks.
  15. I really hate to do this but I'm getting a little concerned so **bump** The percentages have changed and soon I will reach the point where I can't generate a backup without going over my allotted space.
  16. Hi, try the info found in theTCH Help section here Welcome!
  17. I don't know if this would be the best way but you could use a server side includes. Put your logo and navigation on seperate page (if it isn't already) and name it something like header.shtml Then add this directly under the body tag of each content page either centered or in a table . <!--#include virtual="header.shtml"-->
  18. Lynn, Having a couple of family type sites you may want to consider having a catchy little domain name (not that totalchoicehosting isn't) that reflects your site and tastes and is easy for friends and family to remember. You can get a domain name here at TCH for $10.95 p/yr. I think it would be well worth it for you!
  19. Hmm, I think I'd rather make Miss. Potato Head
  20. .m3u and .ram pointer files are good for hiding / preventing downloads. Even if prompted to open or save (as Netscape and Mozilla do) you can only save the link target which is just a one line file. Example: You have the mp3 called MySong.mp3 Open a text editor and create the following line ONLY (tailored to your specs and locations) : Now save that as 'MySong.m3u' Link to the m3u file from your page and you have instant streaming and fairly decent download protection.
  21. Wonderful! Congrats!
  22. Feel free to move this post if need be but I haven't been able to find the subject anywhere. Are forwarders subject to the same scrutiny and actions as regular email? In other words, if someone sends email to main_account@my.com that has an .exe attached is it stripped of the offending file before being forwarded as well? Thanks!
  23. That's real great Rob!
  24. It's possible you haven't propagated over yet but more than likely an ISP cache (old host or even your own) that hasn't updated yet. Should be ok soon since you initiated it 2 days ago. Usually takes up to 72 hours.
  25. It's in the header of the email it tried to come in on.
