After a quick check of your account, I noticed it said you were still validating? Have you received the validation email from the forums yet?

In which forum did you try to reply to or create a topic?

Was the second address setup yet? Might there have been a typo in the forwarder? My guess is you got a delivery failure message because it actually did try to send the email to the second address, but there was a problem with the delivery (the address didn't exist or something like that).

Just a quick little update, I tested adding a new address individually to a forwarder that already existed, and that works too. I added another forwarder through CPanel (webmaster@rayners.org => my third email address), and then sent a test message, which I received in all three accounts.

Okay, here is what I just tried sucessfully with my account. I added an Email Forwarder through CPanel. I set webmaster@rayners.org to be the forwarded address, and set two of my email addresses as ones to forward to, with a comma between them (e.g. email1@domain1.com,email2@domain2.org). CPanel seems to have picked up on the two addresses, and created two forwarders in the listing. So, my guess is you can also add individual email addresses to an existing forwarder just like adding a regular forwarder. Am I making any sense? Anyways, I sent a test email to webmaster@rayners.org, and both of the addresses received it. Enjoy!

Well, in actuality, POP3 is used only for receiving mail. You should be able to setup Outlook Express to use either your ISP's outgoing (also called SMTP) server or though an SMTP server at *****. Bill, would that be mail.******, or am I remembering things incorrectly?

Okay, here's my understanding. A. Yes, and, in fact you can easily install it yourself through CPanel. Just a couple clicks and you're done. B. I haven't the slightest idea. I'd suggest checking phpbb's site, http://www.phpbb.com C. Unless you set a specific quota for an individual email address through CPanel, my understanding is that it's all part of your total space allotment (i.e. the total space in your account is web space plus email boxes) if that makes any sense. As for attachments, I'd have to ask one of the actual employees that question. D. Yes. http://www.******/webmail/ I'm not sure what the situation is with domain transfers. I think we'll need another guru to answer those questions.

Okay, I've got it working. I'm not entirely sure what the problem was, but here's what I did to get it working. 1. Uploaded the tar.gz archive (MT-2.51-full-lib.tar.gz in this case) 2. Through CPanel's file manager, I extracted the file contents into the current directory (which created a MT-2.51-full-lib directory) 3. Renamed the directory to mtfi 4. Edited the mt.cfg file to what you've mentioned before 5. http://www.photo-phrensy.com/journal/mtfi/mt-check.cgi works fine now Apparently, just uploading the files individually screws up the necessary permissions. If I had a bit more time tonight, I'd try and track down what files needed to be changed, but you've got yourself a working installation now. You'll only need to double-check what I put into mt.cfg and edit your mt-db-pass.cgi file. Enjoy!

Yes, unpack and unzip are effectively the same thing. The key here is that you need to upload the rest of the files that were in the archive. Either by just uploading them, or by uploading the archive itself and unzipping it through CPanel's Filemanager.

I just had a brainstorm. Did you move everything from the unpacked archive over, or just the .cgi's? Movable Type requires all of the files in the lib/ and extlib/ directories. The easiest way to set that up would be to unpack the archive in your www/journal directory, and then rename the MT-2.51-full-lib directory to mtfi. Then make your changes to the cfg file, and things should be working perfectly.

I am completely at a loss here. Maybe trying setting all of the directories involved to 777?

Hmm, okay. How about we start from scratch then? Delete everything in your journal/mtfi directory to start with. Then unpack the MT archive into that directory, edit mt.cfg (CGIPath, the Database stuff, and the Umasks only), and bring up mt-check.cgi and see what it says. While I'm thinking about it, which MT archive did you get?

Well, first of all, just to eliminate permissions issues for the moment, go ahead and set all those directories to 777. (And just FYI, you can put the .cgi files outside of the cgi-bin directory if you so desire). Secondly, try uncommenting the StaticWebPath directive in mt.cfg (i.e. take out the '#' in front of it) Let me know if that helps any.

Now you're into one of my areas of expertise: Movable Type So where did you unpack the MT archive? What parameters did you set/change in mt.cfg? Where are the MT files currently located? I don't recall running into a problem like this before, but I'm sure we can figure it out.

Everything involving MySQL here is formatted as follows: accountname_database/username/etc For example, my username in MySQL for my account is rayners_rayners, and my databases are named rayners_databasename. Have you created a database user for yourself through CPanel yet? If not, I suggest you do that first. Then create a database through CPanel, and give your username access to it. After that, change the corresponding values in config.php and you should be good to go.

Well, considering CPanel operates through a browser, I imagine it has as many keyboard shortcuts as a regular web-page, i.e. none. Depending your browser, you may be able to use Tab and Shift-Tab to move back and forth through the links, but as far as I know, that's about it.

Unfortunately I personally don't know much about your e-commerce questions, but I'll look into it when I get a chance soon. To my knowledge, there are no special utilities for modifying web pages, but CPanel does provide a number of CGI scripts that it can install for you easily. As for the blogging apps, there are no official ones that I'm aware of, but ones like Movable Type and Greymatter are a breeze to install. I've been using Movable Type on my site since about August or so and it's been working great for me.

Well, if memory serves me right, the TCH servers are currently in the GMT-5 timezone (Eastern US Standard Time). Is that the information you're looking for?

What Perl modules does it say you need to install? I imagine unless they are pretty obscure (or are LJ specific), TotalChoice probably already has them installed. You can see a list of all the Perl modules installed on the server in CPanel. In the Server Information box on the lower left, there should be a row that reads "Installed Perl Modules" followed by a links that reads "Click to View". Click that link, and you can see all of the modules currently installed. Just do a find for the modules you need, and if they are all there, you are good to go. If not, just let me know and I'll try and help walk you through the installation process. On a side note, if you're not married to LiveJournal, there are other great free blogging/journal tools out there. My personal favorite is Movable Type. It couldn't be easier to install, and it has been working great for me. Just thought I'd mention it.

It is definately possible! First of all, you need to create your subdomain in CPanel. Then, through the File Manager (or possibly in FTP?), move your forums directory into www/writing (i.e. there should be a www/writing/forums directory when your done, containing all of the files from there). Finally, through phpBB's admin panel, change all occurences of www.artamisha.com to writing.artamisha.com. It's been a while since I last played with phpBB, but I believe there should only be one or two places in which you need to make that change. Remember, though, it may take a little while (perhaps a day or so) for your new subdomain to propogate. That should do it!
