Well, I didnt use a subdomain either. I just picked a folder and protected it. I am worried that placing your files like CSS and images will force the password box when a page is visited in an unsecure area that requires the CSS or image. You can place your CSS outside the public_html area to secure it.

If they are already pointing to us then there should "not" be any own time. That said, nothing is perfect so I would caution those involved that although there isn't any predicted downtime that there is a small possibility. When dealing with DNS, transfers or anything else in the internet business you can be 100% sure that nothing is 100% sure.

I am not sure if it was because of the fact that it was exactly the same as the URL it is trying to protect of if it was just too long, more than one word. It looks like you followed the same steps as I did and your formatting of the resource name was the only difference. I would keep it one word, like the foldername from now on and see if that makes a difference. Try it again with another folder and tell me what the results are.

When you go through the transfer the domain is still good until its expiration date and you get a year added to that. You will create an account during the transfer and will maintain total control of the domain name. We dont see any of that information. All corespondance will go to the administrative comtact of the domain name.

Interesting, I went to my cPanel and into Web Protect. At the top it says "Please select the folder you wish to protect by clicking on its name." so I clicked my docs folder. I gave it a Protected Resource Name of something, and then created a username and password. Now when going to knifeandblade.com/docs I get a password protected folder. You didn't specify that you created the username and password. Although it is a silly question, did you?

All of the information is in your name when doing a WhoIS correct? If it is you are on solid ground. I am curious as to what they say when you try and contact them about getting access to your domain and changing settings.

It isn't that these types of things can not be accomplished on an alternative OS, but whats the point? If I were wanting to be known for bringing down the most machines I have to exploit the largest OS out there. And saying it is more secure by default because of better code wont make a difference, if all the energy that was put into breaking the Windows OS was put into breaking another OS it would happen.
