Yea, I was lookin at that last night. I was told that the Tempe area is somewhat high when it comes to cost of living. I'm not sure about how true that is... but at any rate, I've been looking at houses in the area. What are some areas to stay away from? PS - Does anyone know the answer to my phpbb problem?

So I assume then, Rob, that you live in Tempe (or Arizona somewhere)?

Ok, bear with me. I'm attempting to allow anonymous people to vote on forum polls. It doesn't seem to want to work in phpBB 2.0.15. As soon as I change the setting from "REG" to "ALL" on the "Vote" category, it goes right back. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks!

The company I work for is currently considering transfering me to Tempe, AZ. Should I accept? Stop on by my forums to place your vote. Thanks guys!

Entrepreneur (Nope, no bug bites Don. I even wore shorts most of the weekend... must be too early for mosquitos.)

Welcome Stacy. Learning HTML seems daunting at first... so many tags, so little time. Soon you'll get the swing of it and punch out a webpage so fast your fingers will hurt. I would recommend checking out XHTML as well, once you get the hang of HTML.

Madmanmcp is right. I recently had to replace the hard drive in my gf's laptop (what a joyous experience... at least I can get my big fingers in a server). It was doing something similar... there was a bad "spot" that it continuously tried to read, and the system would "freeze" until Windows gave up. A new drive fixed everything. If the computer has an open IDE port (check the ribbon cable most have at least two) plug in a new drive, and use something like Norton Ghost to copy over everything from the old drive. This works especially well if you have a drive and Norton Ghost laying around (it hurts to spend a lot of money to fix a problem, only to find out you didn't fix the problem). Keep us updated, I love problems. And yes, deep down I wasn't really kidding about the Windows part...

First off, it's Windows. There, problem solved. Just kidding... When you open the task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del), on the "Processes" tab there is a list of all running processes. I assume you know about this judging by the fact you know the CPU usage %. There is a column entitled "CPU" which gives the percentage of CPU usage for each running process. Find the one that's high, and let us know what the "Image Name" is. Then maybe we can work this out for ya. Edit: As for the fan being loud at start-up, that's normal. In modern computers, the bios controls the fan speed based off the CPU temerature. So when the machine first starts up, the fan is at max speed, until the bios takes a reading of the processor temp and adjusts the RPM of the fan accordingly. This is prevalent in servers (which I work with on a daily basis), as they have usually between 5 and 8 fans per machine. They sound like a tornado siren, even in an already loud data center.

Protecting Yourself From Spam
cajunman4life replied to Deverill's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Thanks Jim! I just set my default addresses. Although I do have a "webmaster@" which gets spam... but I've only gotten 3 spam messages in 7 months... not bad. I do however follow the "non-visible" rule. You'll notice by looking around at my site that my email is no where to be found... (except maybe in the forums). -
Sounds like my blog. I use blogger's service, and have it set to ftp upload my blog entries. I wrote a template that matched 98% of my site design (couldn't get it completely matching and I can't remember why... it looks the same just some functionality is different) and that's the template it uses, so my blog matches perfectly with the rest of my site (now to port the theme to phpbb...). To see exactly what I'm talking about, click the link below (the one that is hosted by TCH) and click blog from the main page.
