Depending on the questions, either Bruce or I may be able to answer them. Unless there is some reason why the discussion should be done privately, I'd recommend posting the questions in the forum so anyone who knows can answer them, and everyone reading the forum can benefit from the discussion.

Hi Karen - Welcome to the forums! You do not have to transfer the domain to TCH in order to host a site here. On a virtual hosting account, you'd just need to set up your domain at GoDaddy to use TCH's name servers. The domain must point at the main TCH site - you can't set up the domain to point at a subdomain. All virtual hosting accounts at TCH allow subdomains, so you'd be able to create one for your friend to use if you wish. You can host video and audio files at TCH, but you'd need to be careful to monitor your bandwidth usage since these types of files are usually very large. Hope this helps...

For the MySQL server, you should use just 'localhost'.

Welcome to the forums, me-writer! I believe your base path should look something like this: >/home/cpanelName/public_html/redicart (Replace 'cpanelName' with your actual CPanel user name.)

Need To Know Host For Xmlrpc Importing To My Site.
TweezerMan replied to drremer's topic in Looking for......
I do not believe this is correct. This is what the FAQ says: You should purchase additional bandwidth *before* you reach your limit, otherwise, your site will be suspended. -
Need To Know Host For Xmlrpc Importing To My Site.
TweezerMan replied to drremer's topic in Looking for......
I knew the 'http://' wasn't supposed to be there, but not allowing the 'www' sounds like it's just being picky to me. I'm glad to have helped, and you're more than welcome! I'm sorry about the sleep you lost, but at least it's working now. As the resident MT guru, I recently updated TCH's tutorial for installing MT. Before you spend a lot of time writing your own tutorial, you might want to take a look at what we have there and see how it compares with what you would write. -
Need To Know Host For Xmlrpc Importing To My Site.
TweezerMan replied to drremer's topic in Looking for......
You need to configure NewsIsFree to post to MT's mt-xmlrpc.cgi script. According to the NewsIsFree FAQ, these are the paramenter to set up XML-RPC: * Name: the name of the blog * URL: link to the blog's main page * Blog ID: This should be the numeric ID of your blog in the MT admin interface. Hover over the blog's title on the main MT admin page (mt.cgi) and look for the 'blog_id' parameter in the URL if you do not know the blog ID number. * host: the domain name where MT is installed (example: www.my-TCH-domain.com) * port: 80 * path: the URL path to MT's mt-xmlrpc.cgi script (example: /cgi-bin/mt/mt-xmlrpc.cgi). * username and password: A valid author name and password that can be used to log into MT. That should get you a little closer. -
Need To Know Host For Xmlrpc Importing To My Site.
TweezerMan replied to drremer's topic in Looking for......
Hi David - Welcome to the TCH forums! From what I can tell, the feature you want to use requires that you have a blogging application installed on your site that supports XML-RPC. I don't know what blogging app you have installed (or if you have one installed at all). 'Host' is the domain where your blogging app is installed (the domain you use to access its administrative functions), which can be different than the domain of your published blog (example: www.my-TCH-domain.com). Hope this helps... -

On a virtual hosting account, you can have only one domain per account. As TCH-Thomas noted, reseller hosting accounts allow for more than one domain per account (but at a higher cost, as you have noticed). Since you have only two domains though, I'd probably recommend buying two virtual hosting accounts (one for each of your domains), which could be purchased for a total cost as low as $8 per month.

Can't Connect To Mysqldatabase
TweezerMan replied to flakcatcher's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
In addition to TCH-Thomas' suggestion, another common cause for that error is that you forgot to add the database user to the MySQL database. This is what grants the username logging in permission to access the database. -

As far as Google is concerned, DMOZ.org appears to be a PR 8 site. A link to your site from DMOZ.org would probably give your site's Google PageRank a slight boost. In terms of search results though, I wouldn't think that a single link from DMOZ.org would have hardly any effect on making your content more relevant (which is what should make your site display higher in a page of search results).

I have Automatic Update enabled to download but not install updates, so I can review what's get installed on my machine *before* there's a problem. Back when I upgraded to SP2, I had to fix a few things that the installer didn't like, and even after that, ended up having to download the entire SP2 patch and manually installing it myself. Even if I had put off upgrading to SP2, what MS is doing here would not have affected me, so I don't see myself getting all that upset about it. Sooner or later, I imagine that not upgrading to SP2 is going to have a cost - I expect security patches from MS at some point are going to require SP2 in order to install them.

Welcome to the forums, Jyoshi! The only suggestion I have is that you may be looking at a cached directory listing in CuteFTP. Clicking "View", "Refresh" on the CuteFTP menu should make CuteFTP get a fresh directory listing from the server.

I wish I could look at the page you linked to, but it keeps timing out on me. To fix the time display here on the forum, click on the "My Controls" link at the top of the forum page, then in the left column under "Options", click on the "Board Settings" link. Adjust the "base time zone" and "daylight saving time" options to display the correct time for your location. You may need to select a time zone other than Central Time - I'm on the west coast (Pacific Time), but I had to select "Mountain Time" (one time zone off) plus check "daylight saving time" in order for the board to display the proper local time for me.

If you are unable to contact the current domain owner, I don't believe you have any options other than waiting for the domain to become open again for re-registration. I did some looking around on the Melbourne IT web site, and according to the terms posted there, the waiting period is 75 days (not 1 year). The domain is placed on "Hold" status for 40 days after the domain registration expires, then it is placed in a "Redemption" status for an additional 30 days, then the domain is made available to the public 5 days after the 30-day "Redemption" status period has expired.

I'm not entirely clear on what you're trying to do or what pages you're looking at, but this is what I've been able to figure out from poking around on the My Yahoo! site: Here's the full description and instructions for "Roll-Your-Own RSS News Feed": The way I read it, the "Roll-Your-Own RSS News Feed" feature does not provide a way for you to add your site's RSS feed to your My Yahoo! page, nor does it search your web site's RSS feeds, as this is not what it was intended to do. The "Roll-Your-Own RSS News Feed" is a personalized RSS feed that is basically a stored Yahoo! News search, allowing you to monitor topics that appear on *news* web sites, such as CNN, New York Times, etc. For example, you could do a Yahoo! News search for "Supreme Court". The "Add to My Yahoo!" button will add an RSS feed to your My Yahoo! page that will display articles from *news* web sites containing the phrase "Supreme Court" in them, allowing you to keep up with news articles about the Supreme Court. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here, but it appears to me that you're expecting the "Roll-Your-Own RSS News Feed" feature to be something that it's not.
