Installing Content Management System
TweezerMan replied to Saratoga Sam's topic in Installing Scripts
I did some testing on this - the File Manager does preserve file permissions when extracting files and directories, but only to a limit. The File Manager's 'Extract File Contents' command apparently will not create files or directories with 0777 permissions. I presume this is a security measure to protect users from extracting potentially insecure files and/or directories onto their account. File and directories with 0777 permissions are extracted by the File Manager with only 0755 permissions. Files and directories in the archive with less open permissions (such as 0755 and 0644) have those permissions preserved when extracted by File Manager. TCH users do not have shell access at all. I'd suggest submitting a ticket to the Help Desk, providing them with the name and location of the tar.gz file, and the exact command you want them to run on the tar.gz file (the one shown above). -
The FTP address you should use is ftp.your-TCH-domain.com.

I believe you'd just create a regular link to the .doc file on the server.

Welcome to the forums, Sam! Paul - From cPanel, access File Manager, navigate to the directory where the archive file is, click on the tar.gz file, then click Extract File Contents. -
Welcome to the forums, Claudia! As TCH-Don said, you'll want to purchase your account here soon enough to get your site setup here and be sure it is working ok before your old hosting account expires. I'd recommend that you purchase your new TCH hosting account at least a week before your old hosting account expires.

If you want the new active domain name to be reflected in your MT weblog's links, you'll need to change the domain name 1) in your mt.cfg file (CGIPath setting), and 2) in Weblog Config (Site URL and Archive URL). Then rebuild your entire weblog.

I was able to see the images as well, using Firefox 1.0.3. The display did stall for a bit, waiting for a Java app to load and start, but once it did, the page completely displayed everything, including the images.

For "insight, inspiration, hints, tips, tricks, etc." pertaining specifically to Movable Type, I'd recommend the MT Forums and the MT Plugins Directory.

Your directory path should look something like this: >/home/cpanelName/public_html/Dir ...assuming that "Dir" is indeed a subdirectory of the public_html directory.

I have error pages for 403, 404, and 500 errors - that ought to cover most of the errrors that your readers might see.

I ran the script on my local machine here and it appears to work as intended. I then tried to run it on my TCH account, and it returned "Unable to connect to server". I altered the code to output a real error message, and the script returned "Connection timed out". I searched the forums for 'fsockopen' and came up with this. Basically, it's very possible that TCH is blocking the port, but you may be able to get it opened by submitting a ticket to the Help Desk.

The last time I checked, 10 x $2.50 = $25.00, not $40.00. I don't speak for TCH, but I would presume that the $2.50/GB is partially a penalty. TCH does not want customers to exceed their bandwidth limits, nor encourage them to do so, so a higher price per GB is charged. It's not TCH's fault you're going to exceed your bandwidth for the month. You've got two choices - do nothing and let your account get suspended, or pay the $25.

Welcome to the forums, fly.cub! I suspect that your mt.cgi file was not uploaded to the server in ASCII mode - re-upload mt.cgi to your MT directory, making sure to use ASCII mode, then try mt-load.cgi again. The 'DBHost' setting in mt.cfg does not need to be uncommented - MT by default uses 'localhost' for the 'DBHost' setting when it is not specified.

Well, what do you know - MT 3.16 was released today!

Welcome to the forums, krull212! It appears that the most likely cause of your error is a corrupted ntldr file. To fix this, try following the instructions in this MSKB article.

Maybe - the official word is to watch for the release today, but it is scheduled to be released "this week". I'll believe it when I see it.
