BTW, I also need mySQL 4.1. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Out of curiousity, what do you need in MySQL 4.1 that you can't do in the current version? Regards, DAn

Also very cool site... Thanks everyone for the pointers. Dan

OK, these guys make my head hurt... BUT, I can see there's a lot there to learn. Wish I'd found this site this past weekend while I spent 16+ hours doing this: Regards, Dan

I just searched DevShed (thanks Lisa) and found some CSS rollover code that I will try. I think the CSS code I was using may have been the problem. Can anyone suggest a way to determine why something works in IE but not Firefox/Mozilla or vice versa? I would love to be able to validate the code and quickly be able to find out why (for example) something centers correctly in Firefox but not IE (or the reverse). Regards (and thanks for the suggestion about persisting with the CSS method)... Dan

Tried that originally, but IE wouldn't perform the rollovers. Firefox did the CSS rollovers, but IE wouldn't budge. That's the only reason I switched to java. Is there any other way to do it? Regards, Dan
-
The links are not java, just the mouseovers, so the site still works, it's just annoying to see the "blocked script" message. Regards, Dan

While I do use Dreamweaver, this isn't specifically a Dreamweaver issue (I don't think). I'm redoing my website and the menu navigation buttons use javascript to handle OnMouseOver() events. On IE SP2, these events are blocked by default. It works fine once the block is removed and it works as expected in Firefox. How are other developers dealiong with this? I tried using straight CSS actions to do this, but IE couldn't handle it, so I'm using a mix of CSS for layout and colors and javascript for event coding. Thanks, Dan

Does anyone know how to use CSS or a table to have a logo stretch for different screen resolutions? Is this even possible? I have a logo that is painted on a gradient. The gradient is vertical. I tried splitting the logo into a left, center and right image so that I could paint the left a nd right sides fixed and have the center repeat, but as the table gets wider, a gap appears between the left and center images. Thanks for any advice. Dan

You used the backup function built-in to PHPBB? Usually, I just use PhPMySQLAdmin to do a dump of the database to a file. Then I execute the scripts using MySQL to create the database, tables and import the data. Probably more work than it's worth, but I've heard that some PHPBB boards cannot restore the backup occasionally, so I'd rather have everything in raw script form. Regards Dan

A 15 minute SLA is standard in the industry ... and they pay a very high price to get it! Here in the shared server market where you are charged the price of a Happy Meal for service...I don't think so . I'll be happy just to see a server status available in real time on the web. Probably true. But "shoot for the moon" and call it a success if you get into orbit Regards, Dan

Thats already part of monitoring. The "ticket" is probably manually opened by the Data Centers monitoring group. There is also probably an automatic email generated and sent to Bills pager when the problem is serious enough (server down) As far as sending something to "any users on the server" thats stretching it a bit. They do send out for down times that are for extended periods but down times are mostly a temp problem and it comes right back up. Notification for these would be unnecessary. You are right that if the problem is brief then I, as a TCH customer probably wouldn't care, but it would be nice to know when there is a problem lasting longer than say, 15 minutes. Regards, Dan

Between all the monitoring we do auto submitting a support ticket would be a waste of resources for the most part We have our own monitoring system that pages Bill, Alan our lead sysadmin and myself. We also have a 3rd party that does monitoring from outside the network that also pages all of the above. Alan also has his own monitoring that alerts him as well as the Sr. techs. Bill runs server monitoring from a server at his location and I also run a monitor system from my house as well. Bill and i both carry blackberrys pretty much 24/7 that get sent a detailed e-mail every time a service doesnt respond. Sooo, we usually know about an outage before anyone else does How do you ever get any sleep? I handle on-call support for the company I work for and it can be a royal pain... Regards Dan

How about up or down and automatically submits a support ticket when down for any users on the server? Regards, Dan

Can't Get My Custom 404 Error Page To Work
dcumpian replied to bjs's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Is this custom 404 any different than a standard web page? IOW, is there anything "special" about it other than the name? Thanks, Dan -
FYI, you can use filters for Adobe Photoshop in Paitn Shop Pro. Dan

Absolutely! Wipe the machine and reinstall the OS after you buy Dan

Yes, it's back up now. Thanks, Dan

I don't know if it's me or if the site is down, but I don't see any posts here about it so I thought I'd ask. Are the status pages down? Thanks, Dan

Thanks Bruce, I'll read up on this... Dan

I've been made aware of this...I suppose that's why the Home.htm page keeps coming up linked from the search engines as that's where the content is. I'm no web designer, so I'm reluctant to redo this website as it does have all of the content I needed to put out there. The frameset is nothing more than a navigation menu with a logo. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the frameset without having to redesign the whole site? Thanks, Dan
-
I have a site that uses a frameset. Whenever a visitor goes to the site without specifying a page, or if specifying /index.htm, everything's fine. But some people insist on using /Home.htm and then the home page loads without the frameset. Is there any HTML code that will force the Home.htm to load with the frameset if the frame isn't loaded? I suppose I could just rename Home.htm to something else Thanks, Dan

Great! That's what I wanted to hear! Thanks.

I installed the PHPbb forum software from CPanel. Then I loaded the database manually from a forum I had hosted elsewhere. I want to mod the current installation but have one question: If the CPanel software is updated with a newer version of PHPbb, will my forum automatically get updated or can I update it only when I want to? Thank you, Dan
-
Alan, First, you should check to see where your "Home" page is pointing. You should set it to "Blank" if you can. Second, you may have already downloaded a trojan or virus and should do a complete virus scan of your computer. Also, do a search for pl.exe on your computer, in case your virus scanner misses it (some do). Regards Dan

Poll - What Email Program Do You Use?
dcumpian replied to dlevens's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
I primarily use Outlook XP, but whenever I need to get to my email when out and about I generally use SquirrelMail or Horde. For spam, I use the SpamBayes plugin for Outlook. Regards Dan
