My statement (don't recall the reference I made it in) was about running your own LDAP server in a virtual hosted (or reseller) account. That simply means since you aren't allowed to run your own server daemons (programs) on a virtual account, that rules out being able to run an LDAP server. Anything you can run as a web app (cgi, php, etc...) you are allowed to use, including web apps that access external LDAP servers hosted elsewhere. If the app you are using is unable to access an external LDAP server, or fails due to some required dependency that's missing, you should open a help desk ticket with as much detail as you can of what you are trying to do so a tech can evaluate what you may need that may be missing. I'm not really aware of any shared hosting environments that currently support clients running their own LDAP space on the server.

Congrats! Glad you got it figured out.

Yea, it works, and works fine. I've been doing it that way for one of my own domains for a year and a half now with no problems.

If you do a fresh install without restoring your backup, do you still get the error, or is it only after you restore your backup that the error starts happening? (sorry, I dropped offline last night).

Most likely your forums/index.php file doesn't have the necessary permissions. Make sure that all users have read permissions on that file so the webserver is able to read the file. Let us know if that's not the problem and I can come up with some other things to look at.

Yes, indeed. If you add that line into the .htaccess file in your root public_html directory... it will affect all subdirectories (your whole site) unless one of them turns it back on.

Liz, I'm so sorry to hear this. You have my prayers for a full and speedy recovery, and if there's anything we can ever do, let us know.

You can put your rewrite statements right after the line that says RewriteEngine On.
-
Actually, you can do this in cPanel. If you setup a mailbox *and* a forwarder, the email will go to both.

TCH already supports Python scripting as CGI. We only do not provide mod_python.

If you like outlook better than thunderbird, you may want to try Evolution... it's more like Outlook than Thunderbird (even includes Exchange plugins if you are forced to use Exchange).

To be more specific, you are given root shell access via SSH on dedicated Linux servers, and remote desktop administrator access on Windows servers.

Google. Search for a software problem I was having brought me to these forums (and a solution to my problem). (yes, I was a customer before I started doing any work for TCH).

Yes, the :fail: change is correct as of a year ago.

I do not believe there are any current plans for dedicated server sales. But you never know, maybe Head Guru will surprise us again sometime.

I've looked at Mambo, Geeklog, TextPattern, Drupal, and various others for when I was looking into CMS. Drupal is currently my leading choice for resource friendly, modular, well structured CMS. It's a little younger project than some of the others, but it's well supported, seems rather cleanly architected and has a lot of support from it's community going for it. And it's pretty good with resource utilization (unlike a some others like Plone that I looked at that are somewhat resource heavy.... although I do like Plone as well, I definitely wouldn't recommend it for a shared webhosting account, and neither do they). The big thing with CMS's in general, beyond the feature list, is checking the resource requirements. Some just won't work well in a shared hosting environment.

Be was acquired by Palm back in 2001, if I recall correctly, likely in order for Palm to incorporate some of the BeOS technology into future handhelds. I ran BeOS 4.5 on a system for awhile back when Be was around and it was a nice OS for older systems. There is an open-source OS called Haiku that has been in development as an open-source version of BeOS (but I don't really know it's status). I'm not sure if BeOS is still available anywhere, but you could try BeBits.

I'll be spending the weekend helping friends move. (and no, it's not KraZy4Becky).

Our servers can handle it, but your account plan probably can't. Better keep an eye on your bandwidth usage. Last time I published a 6 MB video in my blog (and it wasn't slashdotted, but it was linked in several forums), I saw in excess of 900 GB of bandwidth used up by it in one month.

That's when Serenity comes out... (for all us Firefly fans)
