  8. Sheryl, that book 'teach yourself HTML in 24 hours' is the first one I bought, and still have it beside the computer. Its excellant, and can be a big help as your son has shown. take the time to just skim through it and then go back and try the examples As you are already a little familiar with html I bet you will find it easier than you think. Once you create a page name it index.html and transfer it to your public_html folder with an ftp program (bribe your son to help ) Once you see the process of editing a text file on your computer and then sending it to your web space, you will have the fever And don't be afraid to ask for help as you get more into it.

  11. It can also depend on what the address is like AOL or one of the free e-mails can take a while to get through. Are you using an address at your own domain or another like a free one?

  13. TCH makes weekly backups to make restoring a server easier. It is our responsibility to maintain our own backups. The home backup in cpanel>backup will save all execpt databases, e-mail filters and alias which you can download below the home backup. so if you download all four items, you are covered. the home backup will restore all the files on your space including any e-mail that was on the server at the time of backup. and the others will restore your databases and e-mail filters and alias.
  14. Well welcome to the family Sheryl By transfer I think that means if you already have a domain you are going to point it to the nameservers in your hosting welcome e-mail. You will get an e-mail with the domain name showing how to point it, when you log in to your domain name account. Don't worry, its easy, if you have any problems or questions, let us know.
  15. Rob keeps beating me, I am trying to type with a kitten in my other arm
  16. You can get your domain name where ever you wish, just follow the e-mal instructions that come with the domain name to point it to the nameservers for totalchoicehosting.com as per your welcome e-mail from totalchoicehosting. If you get the domain name from totalchoicehosting it will set up for you, but in your name.

  18. Hi Sheryl, welcome back! SQL is a database used by many scripts like guestbooks and forums cpanel is like the control panel on your computer You can get some idea by looking at cpanel docs. in cpanel you can create databases if the script you install does not automatically create one. In cpanel you can (addon scripts) install guestbooks and forums by just filling in the name of a folder that you want to use for the script, and cpanel will do the rest including create the database. Or if you find a script that you want to try and have to create the database, it will tell you how to use cpanel > MySql to create one. You can use html or what ever method use like to create your pages and using ftp upload them to your web space. There will be info in your welcome e-mail to show how to set up your ftp program The only limit to a file size that you upload. might be with your ISP. I have used ftp to upload zip files as big as 23 meg. You can use frontpage if you like, in your cpanel there is a place to install frontpage extensions to allow frontpage to use extra features, if needed. You can start with just your html pages and grow from there. The main thing is to start out slow and get your feet wet, knowing we are here to help as you need it.

  23. Log into your domain registar site (where you bought it) and you will see an option to lock the domain, if it is supported by your registar. Now no one can transfer it until you unlock it.
  24. Betty, I created a folder to hold the images for the web page. Then put the images I wanted into that folder. In Picasa, I selected that folder and went to the file menu and selected export to a web page. After, I edited the style sheet body section, to change top margin from 70 to 5 removed the background image (the picasa logo) and then using ftp I made a folder on my site and copied the picasa web folder files to my site. And thats it.
