Talk about being in love with your computer... :)

Y'know, my computer never looked that good... Naughty

I don't think I like the direction this is going (not this post ... but that site). That's just scarey. I looked at it for a few minutes trying to figure out exactly what it was supposed to be or do. Is it supposed to be a robot? I saw one picture with what looked to be a motherboard attached.

In any case, too much time, and innovation spent in a really undesireable way!!!

it's anime (a style of japanese comic book art) ...they all look like pre pubescent girls, kind of like all of the females in american comic book art look like super models

Keep things courteous please. Think "family."

Besides the point that the case is based off of a prepubescent anime girl, it really is just a sculpture with a computer built into it. We were just exploring extreme case modding here.

(Edit: Well.. Mike had a good response...)

Yeah, it's anime but you gotta admit that the pose could be a bit more, ah, modest. I think that's the thing upsetting Bill is the pose + youth, but it could be argued that it is exactly that which is the purpose of anime. Going back and looking at the full picture, not just the face, I don't think I'd want to have that on my teenage son's desk (if I had a teenage son) ;)

Sorry if I growelled a little ... not at Mike ... but at the "case mod"

I just didn't see the "scuplture" as objectively as MIke did. Yes, if you look at the larger pictures they are a little more disturbing as to the image they are projecting.

My comment to Mike was really because, well, I like the guy. I had to rib him a little! ;)

Jim is more on-base with why I was "upset" ... but I'd rather say "alarmed" ... at the picutres.

Yes, this is a family site, and it is part of my reason for saying as much as I did about it. Pictures and depictions of this type are really borderline child I AM A SPAMMER. Go back and look at some of the larger pictures and the way this girl is posed.

True, it's inanimate. But what are the motivations for trying to make something like this?

I realize that my stance is may seem extreme to some. I'm Ok with that. But I won't go far as to demand to remove something like this from our family forum.

Being allowed to present my view is enough for me.

Something else to consider is how other cultures view this. This site is Japanese. Not written in it but look at the copyright at the bottom, the information up top. I like anime and American comics yet I dont see it as anything sexual when I see it, in fact when I saw the case I looked right past the pose and saw some great artwork. It didnt even cross my mind. We need to take into consideration who the indended audience is and remember that the most likely motivation for this has nothing to do with what we as Americans may think it is.

Sorry, HCSS, if it came across as a little inappropropriate. I know people who are huge fans of Anime and there is nothing sexual about their interest, so that's the perspective I see that sculpture from.

What is unfortunate is events in society today are making things like that start to take on different meaning. ;)

Well I thank you all for being understanding of what appears to be a very unique viewpoint on this. Am I offended by the site? Yes, some. But I like my rights, and if we started catering to every viewpoint free speach would be dead. Nobody wants that.

I'll put all my cards on the table here ...

I lead a small men's group at my church. So, yes, naturally my views are going to be very concervative. I have learned pornography is a very rampent thing in our society at large. Guys can get hooked on it.

This may sound unusual to some, but some guys use this as a form of pornography. Seeing a particular pose I can understand where this comes from.

I understand there are culltural neuonces too, as well as comperable examples from our own culture as expresses earlier. Point taken and it's valid.

My view is understandably unique. And I don't necessaryily expect a bunch of people to get behind me on this. But in the small circle that I work with, I realize that sometimes there's more there than is immidately recognized. Thus I am particularly sensitive to see things in a different light.

This is really why, in a way, it seems that you may be hearing what you do about this.

We're all friends here, and I'm sorry if my line of thinking has detracted from your original intentions MikeJ.

That thing is taller than my by 2 inches! Woah!

One thing to keep in mind concerning anime... And it is relevant to these Forums...

The USA is strangely conservative when it comes to certain adult subjects. The majority of the world does not have the same viewpoints as the USA... Please keep in mind that, say for example, French daily television allows for the display of much more in regards to the human body than American daily television.

So... To put this in a Forum perspective... Try to remember the differences between cultures around here. Just because something offends you doesn't mean (As said before) that it was meant to.

Agreed that cultures are different and such, and certainly that no one here meant to offend anyone else. I don't think there is any question of that.

Just because something offends you doesn't mean (As said before) that it was meant to.
On the other hand, just because something doesn't offend you doesn't mean it shouldn't. (With regards to anime, young girls, etc.)

HCSuperstore-Bill's view is not unique on this. I too think that it is improper to pose young girls in such suggestive ways and then for (any) society to accept it as if it were nothing. Why don't they ever make 35 year old anime stars? Why are they always seductively posed? Does this youthful art style have an effect on people that is improper? Check out the American Heritage definition of "anime":

A style of animation developed in Japan, characterized by stylized colorful art, futuristic settings, violence, and sex.
Anime is not even really mainstream in Japan

I personally am disappointed in how society has become so free about sexual things, especially when involving young people. The US is not the only country that says you can't photograph and distribute pics of 10 year old girls in blatantly sexual poses - what's the diff if they are drawn or photographed?

Many say that America is so stuffy about sex that they are damaging their kid's psyche... have they not seen Brittney and Madonna kissing? Have they not seen Ms. Jackson being nasty at the superbowl? Have they not heard Howard Sterns? I'd say that this country is not nearly as puritan as we would like to think we are. Is it any wonder that we are tops in rapes too? (From nationmaster.com)

1. United States 89,110 (1999)

2. South Africa 53,008 (2000)

3. Canada 24,049 (2000)

4. Australia 15,630 (2000)

(Not to mention divorces. US and Puerto Rico are the top 2 countries.)

Anyway, I know no one meant to offend and I don't think anyone has been offended. I thank God for the freedom we have in the US (and TCH) to have opinions and to be able to express them as long as it is done properly.

By the way, the Gundham is cool! And I thought I had a hard time finding room for my computer in my room! Sheesh! :)
