TCH-Thomas Posted March 5, 2004 Posted March 5, 2004 Im looking for a email notification program that beeps or shows a box when i have new email. It must be able to check several accounts and being freeware. I have so far tried several ones but they just crash or will not work, so any recommendations are appreciated. Quote
ThumpAZ Posted March 5, 2004 Posted March 5, 2004 Trillian will tell you if you have email on the services it uses As for other mail services, I have been in the same boat. They either are so cumbersome that they seem to not work, or they crash themselves or your machine. I just use Outlook at this point and let it tell me. I have 4 different accounts it checks, so it keeps me informed decently. Sorry I couldn't be of more help Quote
TCH-Dick Posted March 5, 2004 Posted March 5, 2004 mailwasher, the free version only checks one account tho, but the paid version is worth the money if you ask me. It will check unlimited accounts, notify you, you can preview the messages without doanloading them to your machine, delete them from the server, bounce them back to the sender, whitelist or blacklist senders. TCH-Thomas Posted March 5, 2004 Author Posted March 5, 2004 (edited) No worries Glenn. The problem is that i use mozilla since me and outlook (and its express brother) are not friends with each other. As for email notifications in im´s, yep i use it. I should have said in original post that it was for isp-email and my jikrantz.se etc. Sorry for me missing to tell. Edited March 5, 2004 by Jikrantz Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted March 5, 2004 Author Posted March 5, 2004 I have mailwasher (free version). It can beep??? I missed that setting. Quote
Bunni Posted March 5, 2004 Posted March 5, 2004 I use PopTray. It's free, easy to use, and can check multiple accounts for email. It's has multiple options and rules, can be set to play custom sounds when mail arrives and colored according to mail box. etc etc etc It's worth checking out. poptray.org/ Quote

TCH-Bruce Posted March 5, 2004 Posted March 5, 2004 PopTray has been on my desktops for over a year. I've tried most of them and I like the ability to configure it with filters. Multiple accounts and custom sounds for each as well as specific emails. Quote

TCH-Thomas Posted March 6, 2004 Author Posted March 6, 2004 The easy way to settle this problem is to only have one email account! True, unless you as me want one adress for family and others that you know wont spam you. I have one family-adress for the purpose above and one adress for people i might not trust 100% for various reasons or when registering on sites that demands passwords etc. That way i can just drop the adress if they send me too much spam. TCH-Bruce Posted March 6, 2004 Posted March 6, 2004 The easy way to settle this problem is to only have one email account! I have multiple business accounts and several domains. Having all the mail go to one account would never work. There would be no way to keep it straight. In one account I get over 500 messages a day. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted March 6, 2004 Author Posted March 6, 2004 I have now tried poptray. It works great. Thanks for the recommendation. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted March 6, 2004 Posted March 6, 2004 Glad you liked it. They just released a new verison on 2.29.04 and the next version is already in beta testing. It just keeps getting better. Quote

cmuskett Posted March 6, 2004 Posted March 6, 2004 I downloaded PopTray yesterday and I so far I like it better than Mailwasher.. I didn't think I could find anything to beat it. LOL The only thing I find that PopTray doesn't do that Mailwasher does is bounce emails back to the sender. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted March 6, 2004 Posted March 6, 2004 The only thing I find that PopTray doesn't do that Mailwasher does is bounce emails back to the sender. 9 times out of 10 you are bouncing email back to a non-existent email address so no loss there. Quote
