Hi,

I like what I see so far and am interested in hosting with you. Couple of quick questions if someone can help.

I've been with several hosts over the years, and a recurring problem is with the company being acquired or acquiring someone else. I was actually with a company that was acquired 3 times--the third time by a host that I had fled a year earlier! In any case, the problem is that service always goes down after a company is acquired or the company focuses on acquisitions. Email and control panel service seem to suffer first. Most companies I've been with can keep the sites up even in rough times, but the reliability of email and admin stuff declines rapidly. Can someone give me some quick insight into how long the company has been around and how the company feels about acquisitions? I've been through the TCH site extensively but didn't see much on this, unless I missed it somewhere...

Also, is there any info on uptime for email and the control panel?

One more-

I've always had a dedicated IP with other shared hosting plans. In the past I had always heard it was important. Can someone give me some words of wisdom as to why I shouldn't worry about having a dedicated IP?

Thanks!

Just to clarify-

I don't need hard data on these questions. On the company info question, I'm just used to seeing something on the website about financial security / future plans for the company / how long the company has been around, etc. Any general info on this stuff would be greatly appreciated. Or if there's a post or link that would help, let me know.

Not meaning to stump anyone on this...

Thanks

To quote the HeadGuru (owner and founder of TotalChoice Web Hosting):

The name TCH has only been around since late 2002, however before then our company was named *****, we switched names to give us a better brand name in the dedicated server market.

All in all, we have been in the IT business since 1999

HeadGuru is very dedicated to this business. His pride and attention are amazing attributes here. I don't see this company being sold. It's too personal for him and his family...my opinion. :)

I've seen offers of a buy out, in the help desk of all places. Bills answer has always pretty much been thanks for the opffer but I'll pass. I don't see it being sold.

One reason for a dedicated IP over a shared one is that if you are sharing IPs and have a bad neighbor and they get blacklisted for spamming, for example, then the next time you hook up and get that IP you'll be blacklisted by default.

We have a zero tolerance of spamming, and being a bad neighbor in general, here so you have little to worry about. In the few cases we have been improperly labeled spammers Head Guru has jumped on the line to sort it out and we've never had any lasting issues like this. I seriously doubt if anyone could be bad enough to get blacklisted before we ourselves shut them off.

Thanks for the info guys. It sounds like a very personal company--that's one measure of stability I think. I know there are no guarantees about the acquisition stuff, but it's good to have some feedback on it.

As far as the dedicated IP, it's probably not a big deal but I'll sleep on it. Thanks for the info.

Most likely I'll sign up in the next few days...

Hi,

I have no intentions of selling TCH. It is to personal to my heart. My staff and I have worked hard for many years to build the client base and the reputation of the company.

Thanks Bill. I appreciate the personal attention. You guys really seem to care here.

Like I mentioned, I'll probably be a new customer shortly. TCH looks like just what I need.

Lance, I know how you feel,

I was too was with a less than great host.

So I was cautious, when I came here.

It just looked too good to be true.

But it is, just what it looks like,

the best host you will ever find!

And the family atmosphere here is real.

We all love this place and want to help our fellow family members.

There is such a great wealth of experience here to draw on.

The family feeling is further enhanced because many of the staff started as customers and still are.

I hope you will give this place a chance, you will not be sorry.

But you will have to learn to use the Rock Sign sign :)
