hey folks

i customize my awstats .conf file to get specific funtionality (DNS lookup, host skipping, etc). we had a big discussion some months back about how the server would overwrite this configuration file every day. Rick finally figured out that if you set permissions at 444, the server is unable to overwrite. this has worked for me for a long time, but in the past few days i've noticed the file is getting reset even with the permissions restricted to read-only.

does anyone know how to get around this?

Jimmy,

Intresting, I am guessing this has to do with the recent update to Cpanel.

If you start a support ticket, we shall take a look and see if we can find away around it.

cool, i have submitted a ticket.

something i just noticed, even tho i set the permissions to 444, when i log back in, i find the file has already reset to 644. so that's why it's getting overwritten. i hope somebody can figure this out!

I just signed up with TCH and I'm having the same problem. When I modify the permission on the config file, it just reverts back to what is was.

Any update on this issue?

I've searched the forums and this is the most recent topic I can find on it.

Thanks

Theres a bug in file manager that doesnt make the changes to permissions about 99% of the time. Try using an ftp program and see if that solves the problem.

If you will give me your domain name (or even better, the server you are on) I will have a look. There is a fix for the File Manager permissions problem that I can run to fix it but it will be quicker if I know which server needs it.

Thanks. You should be able to change the permissions using File Manager now.

I know this thread is a bit old, but I'm having the same issues, e.g. the awstat conf file keeps getting over-written. Most likely because it's in a /tmp folder (the original location; I didn't move it)?... I tried the method of using FTP to change permissions to 444 but those are immediately changed back to 644 again. Is the solution simply to move the whole awstats folder out of an area that seems to get overwritten by the host server on a routine basis?
