I'm at the point in my web business where I'm ready to step up. I'm currently pretty happy with my web hosting company, except for price. I'm getting creamed with virtual domain fees of $5/month per domain. I started out with one domain that I develop and host out of my pocket. Now I have something like 5 domains that I deveolp and host out of pocket. I'm to the point where I'm paying about $50/month for 750 MB.

If I move up to their virtual dedicated server I will pay $80/month for 3 GB and unlimited domains. I now have a few paying jobs that want me to host. I like what I see/read about TCH so far. Their price for what I might need is around $25/month and they have unlimited email, mysql databases and domains which are three things I'm looking for.

To those who have been through this before, what does it look like I need? Do I go with a reseller program so that I can offer hosting and separate access to customers? Right now if I host a site ALL access comes through my main account.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Cheapwebsolutions,

I am not going to respond as I *think* your asking for feedback from the community of users.

If I am wrong and you would like my staff to respond please advise.

Thanks for considering TCH.

All feedback is welcome. Trying to make an informed decision this time and read before I buy. I think I'm paying a lot now and it would be even more if I stay with my current host.

A concern of mine is FTPing everything from one host to the other. I guess I can create my same named MySQL user so I don't have to go through all my scripts? I have about 40 MySQL databases right now between 6 of the sites.

I have CPanel with my existing host. I see there is a chance I can copy a lot of my settings on over.

That would be cool. You have the email system I currently use and would like to be able to transfer that all over as well.

Do you allow NetPBM ? I run Gallery, I do all the optimizing of my pictures before I upload, but the software needs NetPBM to work. I know my current host wasn't real happy I had it on the server. Of course they never told me that before-hand, just sent me a nasty nasty email.

I dont know about the NetPBM but I think if you move over you will truly be happy here. Since you have several accounts I would look into getting a resellers package so you can maintain it easier.

I had installed netpbm for my site and never heard that it wasnt allowed, so I dont see why you couldnt install it. Imagemagik is also pre installed on all servers

I thought that too. What I don't understand about resellers is what I pay for? Don't I have space that I pay a set amount for and divy it up as I can? My current host only offeres resellers their set plans that they can turn and charge more for. I just wonder if paying for these accounts separately would cost me more in the end?

I'm probably not explaining everything clearly. I do that a lot. This is what I'm doing now:

Pro plan - 750 MB $24.99/mo.

Virtual domains - 5 x $5/mo.

Now with a reseller would I pay for 5 accounts? Or could I set my self up with the account and just use 5 of my own accounts? My current host leads me to believe with them I'd have to buy 5 basic plans, that's why going with their $80/mo. VDS makes sense because I could put all the domains there.

Oh yeah, plus I just picked up two new accounts to design and host.

The benifit of having a reseller plan is you can manage all your domains under one WHM account. You can have unlimited domains under one account for a reseller account as well, your not charged by the domain name, but by the whole.

Okay, Okay, I'm sold :)

I think I'll sign up for the Basic Reseller plan. I'll probably start of with adding these new accounts to TCH. I'm sure I'll have a few questions once I start transfering the CPanel and FTPing the files. Whew ... I have a lot of work ahead of me!

Thanks for all the help.

Mike
