Cheryl Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 I am in the process of building my site and right now that ugly parent directory comes up when someone enters my url. Can I use Web protect so when they enter the www.domainname.com that it asks for a password and doesn't bring up my directory? Naughty Or do I need to put up an index page and web protect that? Or am I all washed up and can't do any of this? Quote
TCH-Andy Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 I would go with the second one. Add an index page which people will see, and you can add protection to other areas of your site. I wouldn't add a password protect on the index page myself, because I assume you want some visitors to come along and access your site. Andy Quote
Digirunt Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 I agree with Andy, Like a shop create an index page with an opening soon message then wonderring soles may come back later. I've created an index page with non functioning links and a message that the site will be active soon. Thumbs Up Quote
TCH-JimE Posted July 25, 2003 Posted July 25, 2003 Hi, I call it a "splash" screen. You will be unable to add Webprotection to the main WWW folder. Jim Quote
ztrauq Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 Can't you simply set the indexing mode to "No Index" in the CPanel? Quote
Head Guru Posted August 28, 2003 Posted August 28, 2003 Simply add this to your .htaccess file Options -Indexes This will stop people from viewing your indexs on any folder. Quote
