Kind of strange, but I've had my TCH email setup in outlook and working perfectly for a while now.

All of a sudden, yesterday when I hit the send/receive button on outlook xp, if I have no mail it comes with a "Sending and Receiving reported Unknown error 0x800CCC97"

However, if I have mail, it downloads it (or uploads outgoing mail) just fine, and no error.

So it isn't like outlook isn't working, it's that when I have no TCH mail to be d/l'd it comes back with that error, kind of just annoying... anyone hear of this?

Now that I think about it, I added another address to my list of email accounts in outlook, I think it started around then. But that account (comcast.net) is sending and receiving just fine, as is the TCH email, just with the error I mentioned.

strange!!

also, mail through webmail still works as perfect as always, no errors or problems there.

This is a new one on me.

I found this

Outlook Express Error Codes

0x800CCC97 POP3_POPID_OUT_OF_RANGE Message ID out of range.

Not sure what the error message means.

I bet you have checked and double checked your settings for TCH to make sure they were not changed, when you added the comcast account.

But I thought I would ask.

Well I am not finding this

DO NOT DELETE - ETC..."

I know I have seen this some where.

Hopefully some else will remember it.

Any way glad its working now.

It's a part of the IMAP system that gets set up when you run Webmail for the first time. If you get it in Outlook you can delete it. There are several posts somewhere on the forum with info as well.

this is what I get:

FROM: Mail System Internal Data [MAILER-

DAEMON@server26.totalchoicehosting.com]

SUBJECT: DON'T DELETE THIS MESSAGE -- FOLDER INTERNAL DATA

This text is part of the internal format of your mail folder, and is not

a real message. It is created automatically by the mail system software.

If deleted, important folder data will be lost, and it will be re-created

with the data reset to initial values.

since i'm just d/l'ing through outlook, i figure no harm in deleting it daily.

i found this description somewhere on the web...

If you receive any of the following error codes, the problem may be related to your ISP or the Internet, and may be only temporarily. You should try again at a later time.

but i need more!!! please help...

FSUChucky is talking about a different part of his original question. It would probably be good to submit a Help Desk ticket and let me see if I can duplicate the error. That will at least help us to know if it is an Outlook problem or something else.

One thing you can try is that if your inbox is empty when you check Webmail, delete the account and recreate it. That's assuming you aren't storing stuff in the Webmail.

After looking around I found the following web page: http://www.whro.org/internet/error.shtml. On that page you will see:

>0x800CCC97
POP3_POPID_OUT_OF_RANGE
Message ID out of range.

I'm still a bit confused as to the exact translation of what this means, but I see how having no mail may cause the problem. If anyone finds more please let everyone know. Thanks.

When the do not delete emails comes in to you inbox here is the deal.

Normally this is no big deal. This letter is generated when IMAP is used. Sqmail or neomail might have generated the email.

Normally no big deal.

For some reason outlook freaks out when that email is the first one in line. It simply bugs out and throws the error your seeing.

Drop a ticket in and we will delete that pesky little email and get your outlook working again.
